Chapter 279: Perfect Crime? It Doesn't Exist
Perhaps sensing that someone was staring at her, Sun Ying turned her head toward Xu Mo.
The two of them stared at each other like that.
Finally, Xu Mo, still a bit puzzled, stepped forward and asked.
"These are all your brother's clothes, right? He just went out a short while ago, and you threw all his clothes away?"
Sun Ying, expressionless, retorted to Xu Mo.
"He can't come back, can he? Then why keep these?"
Hearing that, Xu Mo couldn't help squinting as he examined Sun Ying before him.
It seemed she truly knew about Sun Jian's murder, and knew Xu Mo was a police officer; she had come earlier to capture Sun Jian.
She also knew Sun Jian's crimes were severe enough to warrant life imprisonment, even the death penalty.
So she chose to discard all of Sun Jian's clothing during this period.
"You already knew he couldn't return? So... you knew from the start that your brother had killed someone?"
Xu Mo wondered whether Sun Ying, Sun Jian's sister, was withholding information and shielding a criminal.
Or perhaps an even graver offense, such as... incitement to murder?
Maybe Sun Jian's murder was carried out under Sun Ying's orders.
Not that... that's not it, Xu Mo instantly dismissed the idea in his mind.
Because he suddenly recalled Sun Jian's last sentence in the Interrogation Room.
As a psychology expert, Xu Mo could instantly tell that Sun Jian hadn't lied then, meaning that, from Sun Jian's perspective, Sun Ying was completely unaware of his murder!
Yet, Sun Ying indeed knew about it, and seemed to have known from the outset.
A chill suddenly rose in Xu Mo's heart.
He recalled a film from the Parallel World—Detective Chinatown 1.
The movie ends with a little girl's eerie smile.
The one caught wasn't the true murderer; the little girl at the end was the real mastermind!
The captured one was merely a scapegoat, or rather, just a knife being used.
The girl used diary entries to coax her adoptive father into killing for her.
She had a motive, but the incitement lacked evidence, so legally it couldn't be classified as a crime.
This is an almost perfect crime model: killing by proxy, while staying beyond the law...
Facing Xu Mo's questioning,
Sun Ying only gave a strangely odd smile; her grin was almost identical to the little girl's smile at the end of Detective Chinatown 1 in the Parallel World.
"I didn't know from the start; I just found out he killed someone," the girl explained.
"Just found out? How did you know? This matter is still under secrecy; only the Police know who the murderer is right now."
"Just a guess. I was interning where someone died; could I have been unaware? I know my brother's temperament well, and he happened to be away from home when the incident occurred. Moreover, he had just returned home when your Police came knocking. Isn't it hard to connect the dots that he killed someone?"
This smile, this tone, to Xu Mo, was sheer provocation.
Just guessed it?
With that attitude, it's hard to believe you just learned it!
Your brother got caught because of you, and you're not at all sad? You can still smile?
At this moment, Xu Mo believed Sun Jian's murder must have been influenced by his sister.
In other words, Sun Jian was merely a knife being used.
And Sun Jian himself was completely unaware of all this.
The true murderer, in the real sense, should be Sun Ying!
And the reason Sun Ying dared such brazen provocation toward Xu Mo
was because she was convinced Xu Mo couldn't touch her, convinced she could get away with it!
She had a motive, but legally her actions couldn't be classified as a crime, after all, there was no evidence to prove she committed one.
The little girl in Detective Chinatown 1 was exactly like that, walking free.
But Sun Ying was unlucky to run into Xu Mo.
The reason the girl in the film could get away with it was that the Police couldn't gather evidence.
Even if they knew the case might involve the girl, they had no way to handle her.
This method of killing by proxy is so sophisticated that the "knife" doesn't even know it's being used.
But the Police in the film being powerless doesn't mean Xu Mo can't.
Xu Mo has a truth serum!
One injection, and Sun Ying will spill everything.
Then the motive and evidence will be complete.
Perfect crime? It doesn't exist!
Of course, Xu Mo doesn't know what the truth actually is.
Although, based on Sun Ying's behavior, the situation is highly likely to be as Xu Mo thinks, it's still only his speculation.
The specifics still require testing to know.
"That's true; it's normal that you could guess this," Xu Mo didn't voice his speculation; instead, he concealed it well: "Your brother wants to see you, come with me, I'll take you to the Police Station."
"Alright."
The two walked together to the Ting Che Chang and got into Xu Mo's car.
Before getting in, Xu Mo used the chance of helping open the door to get close to Sun Ying, swiftly injected truth serum into the back of her neck, and immediately sealed the serum into System Space.
The truth serum that was sealed into System Space vanished from Xu Mo's hand as if by magic.
Sun Ying just felt something prick the back of her neck, instantly turned to look, and saw Xu Mo slapping his own arm while muttering to himself.
"Damn mosquito! As soon as it gets hot they come out, and their bite hurts like a needle prick!"
Sun Ying also touched the back of her neck.
She didn't notice any abnormality.
She knew that the big flower mosquitoes in the community's green belt bite painfully; some mosquito bites really feel like being pricked by a needle.
Because of Xu Mo's mistaken guidance.
She mistakenly took the prick from the truth serum in the back of her neck for a mosquito bite.
The truth serum took effect immediately after being injected.
After Sun Ying got into the car, Xu Mo began to ask.
"Is Sun Jian's murder related to you?"
"Yes," Sun Ying nodded. "His killing of Zhang Guodong was the result of my intentional or unintentional prompting; I know his character."
Although Xu Mo had previously speculated this outcome.
But when he heard it with his own ears, he still felt a chill, and instinctively glanced at Sun Ying in the back seat through the rearview mirror.
Inciting his own brother to murder… that harms two people at once!
And one of them is his own relative.
Sun Ying wanted to kill Zhang Guodong; Xu Mo could understand that.
After all, Zhang Guodong really is no good.
What Xu Mo couldn't understand was why Sun Ying, knowing murder is illegal, would still tempt her brother into such a risk.
Especially after learning that Sun Jian was captured and wouldn't return, this younger sister showed no sign of sorrow at all?
"Do you have a conflict with your brother? Do you hate him?"
"My brother? I have no blood relation with him at all; he's not my brother. Like Zhang Guodong, he's no good!"
Xu Mo frowned.
There's another hidden story behind this…
