Chapter 333: A Major Case Has Arrived

~6 min read 1,142 words

Hangcheng Police Department.

After ending the call with Han Fei.

Wang Ju couldn't help shaking his head, staring at his phone and muttering to himself.

"That old Han, his words are getting more and more unreliable, even mentioning five or six murder cases… as if I were a three‑year‑old child."

In Wang Ju's view, Han Fei was using exaggeration; he probably just wanted to convey that Xu Mo does have a bit of talent in this line of work.

As for the claim that Xu Mo solved five or six murder cases, that's pure nonsense; the program ended only a short while ago.

Five or six murder cases? That would have to happen in a single day—it's like a joke!

In today's society, a single jurisdiction can barely have five or six murders in a whole year; take his example—this year there's only one murder, and probably none more by year's end.

But then,

A dispatcher at the Police Station received a report: someone discovered a corpse in Penghu Qu…

This kind of case is completely different from ordinary petty theft; it's a major case!

Consequently, the dispatcher reported the case upward without any hesitation.

Sitting in his office, Wang Ju learned of it quickly, and his voice involuntarily rose several notches: "Someone found a corpse!?"

"Hmm, it's in Penghu Qu, at the hideout of Li Fei who fled from Yangcheng to us."

"Got it," Wang Ju said, his brows furrowed into a shape like the Chinese character for 'river', then he immediately stood up and left the office, preparing to take people over to check.

Before departing, he called Xiao Li, who had recently been sent out to assist Xu Mo's team with a remote capture.

…

Penghu Qu.

Xiao Li's phone rang.

Seeing it was Wang Ju calling, assuming he was checking on their mission's progress, he answered without hesitation and reported that they had already captured someone.

"Wang Ju, we just captured someone and were about to call you to report, didn't expect you to call now."

The next second, the smiling Xiao Li suddenly dropped his grin: "Huh? Someone found a corpse in Penghu Qu?"

He involuntarily looked at the shackled Li Fei.

"Did you kill again after arriving in Hangcheng?"

Li Fei was startled, then shook his head: "No."

"Really, no lie? Tell the truth!"

"No," Li Fei shook his head again.

From Li Fei's slight expression, Xu Mo judged that he wasn't lying: "He didn't lie."

He then pointed toward Penghu Qu and said to Officer Xiao Li,

"Someone died here…?"

"Hmm, Wang Ju just called, saying someone reported a corpse here; we also just captured someone, and he asked us to check the situation first," Xiao Li paused, then looked at Xu Mo and the other two: "Sorry, this case just popped up; we have to go see what's going on, and we don't have time to escort you to the airport. Maybe you should take a cab yourself?"

The remote capture mission was already completed, and the newly discovered case fell within Hangcheng Police Department's jurisdiction, unrelated to Xu Mo and the two other Yangcheng officers; even if they left now, no one would complain.

However, upon hearing about the case, the three exchanged glances, seeming not to intend to return immediately, but considering whether to stay and help.

Chen Ke and Li Chen thought that Wang Ju and the Hangcheng officers had helped them many times; now those people were in trouble, leaving outright might be improper. Even if they couldn't directly solve the case, offering whatever help they could would at least repay a favor.

Xu Mo, however, had no such concerns; he wondered whether he could earn a reward from this case.

Although each had their own thoughts, the three surprisingly shared the same goal: they all wanted to stay and help.

Of course, whether to stay required a call to Han Fei for approval.

The three stared at each other for a moment and instantly understood each other's intentions.

The next second, Chen Ke said, "I'll call Han Team to ask him."

He pulled out his phone, called Han Fei, briefly explained the situation, and Han Fei said he was happy to let them help.

Besides repaying the favor, Han Fei also thought this was a chance to showcase Xu Mo's talent and give Wang Ju a slap in the face…

So his answer was to have Li Chen escort Li Fei back to Hangcheng, while Chen Ke and Xu Mo stayed to help.

Afterwards, Li Chen drove a vehicle with the shackled Li Fei straight to the airport, while Chen Ke and Xu Mo caught up with Xiao Li and several other officers.

"We consulted Han Team, and the two of us will stay to help you; let Li Chen take the person back himself."

"That… isn't ideal, will it delay your own tasks?" Xiao Li asked, surprised; he hadn't expected Chen Ke and the others to return, since they also had missions.

Chen Ke waved his hand carefree.

"What's wrong with that? You helped us before, we're all in the same system; helping each other is normal, more people mean more strength."

"That's true, on behalf of Hangcheng's officers, I thank you both," Xiao Li instantly felt that these two were truly helpful.

…

The group entered Penghu Qu, and following the location Wang Ju had just told Xiao Li over the phone, they arrived at the spot where the witness had found the corpse.

To be precise, it wasn't a whole corpse but a body chunk, packed in a trash bag and thrown into a garbage can.

The discoverer was an elderly lady; today, as usual, she was rummaging through the trash can for discarded bottles and cardboard, and accidentally tore the bag containing the body chunks.

Seeing what was inside, she immediately reported it to the police.

When the group arrived, they quickly set up a cordon to keep people away from contaminating the scene.

Xu Mo put on gloves, pulled the body chunks out of the trash bag, laid them on the ground, and pieced them together.

"Another dismembered corpse… the method really resembles Li Fei's, doesn't it? Are we sure this wasn't a homicide?" Chen Ke felt a pang of dread.

Even Lao Xingzhen could barely endure such a scene; it's too gruesome!

"No, I examined it; the fatal wound is at the back of the head, with multiple blunt‑force impacts evident. From the wound shape, the weapon was likely a hammer, and the victim was dismembered after death. I suspect the killer is also female, or perhaps a child, maybe an elderly person… certainly not an adult male," Xu Mo made a simple judgment: "If it were an adult male, a single hammer blow would kill, no need to strike so many times."
