Chapter 347: It

~6 min read 1,002 words

"Someone's coming in!" the officer pointed at the monitor.

In the surveillance footage, a man walked into the Tai Ping Jian and went straight toward the bed where the previously placed Fake Corpse lay.

This person must be problematic; at least the officers all thought he was.

In the later footage, the man reached the bedside where the corpse was, stood with his back to the camera, lifted the white sheet covering the body, and fiddled with the corpse for a while.

"What is he doing?" one officer asked.

Because the man kept his back to the camera, the officers couldn't tell from the footage what he was actually doing.

"Who the hell knows, but it's definitely not something good."

As soon as the words finished, the surveillance video suddenly turned terrifying.

The man, after fiddling with the corpse for an unknown amount of time, turned around to leave.

Yet the instant the man turned to leave, the corpse that had been lying quietly on the bed suddenly got up!

The man who had entered the Tai Ping Jian realized the corpse behind him was a Fake Corpse, bolted for the exit, and the corpse chased after him.

"WTF... what the hell is this? Is it really a Fake Corpse??"

"Now I think this guy's fine; look at his reaction after he realized the corpse was a Fake Corpse—he's clearly terrified, which shows he didn't know beforehand that the corpse would Fake Corpse, or that he hadn't tampered with it."

"Sss… hearing you say that, I get the same feeling; you think this can't really be a Fake Corpse, right? His reaction seems normal."

"…"

The officers' thoughts gradually changed; they even wondered if it could actually be a real Fake Corpse.

Chen Ke, at this moment, frowned and looked at Xu Mo: "Did you notice anything?"

"No," Xu Mo shook his head.

He still didn't believe the Fake Corpse thing.

But so far, Xu Mo truly has no clue, no discoveries; he can't explain what's in the footage.

"Play it again, watch it again, see if we can spot any issues," Xu Mo requested another playback.

After watching the footage again, Xu Mo still found nothing wrong.

Chen Ke and the other officers were the same; they also found no problem.

With no other choice, they watched the footage once more.

Afterwards, they also retrieved the corridor footage outside the Tai Ping Jian and the first‑floor hallway footage, each watching again.

This time, Xu Mo found a problem.

"There's a problem: the corpse's target has always been that man, never changing, and notice that the corpse stays roughly one meter away from him at all times—from the Tai Ping Jian, to the corridor outside, to the stairwell… even in the first‑floor hallway, their distance remains about one meter, never changing. Their relationship isn't chase and being chased; it's more like… the kite‑flyer and the kite."

Upon Xu Mo saying that, the others also realized the issue.

"Right, their distance stays around one meter, never changing… Play the Tai Ping Jian footage!"

The officer pointed at the monitor playing the footage: "Look, the man turned to leave at 11:26. When he turned, the corpse was still; when the corpse Fake Corpse'd, it was exactly when he was one meter away from the corpse. He must have a problem!"

"Kite‑flying… I got it! Could it be that the man tied Rope to both himself and the corpse, so when he got up, the corpse would follow him!" Chen Ke suddenly said.

His suggestion received support from an officer.

"Exactly, the man was fiddling in the Tai Ping Jian; maybe he tied Rope to the corpse's limbs, about a meter long, so the distance stays around one meter, and the Fake Corpse only chased him, not anyone else, probably because of the Rope."

Xu Mo added a point.

"It can't be just Rope; if only the limbs were tied, the corpse would collapse, not run after the person as in the video, so the man must have done something else, but we don't know what."

Though they don't know the exact method that let a corpse follow him, the officers now are certain the man is problematic.

He never came to the Tai Ping Jian to view a corpse; he came to steal one!

As for the corpse chasing him, that's a falsehood he fabricated, intended to make people think he wasn't stealing the corpse, but that the corpse accidentally Fake Corpse'd and ran after him out of the hospital.

"Whatever method he used, we just need to know he's the one behind this. Grab him, bring him back for interrogation and we'll find out everything!" one officer said.

After realizing the man was a big problem, the officers wasted no time, acted through the night, identified the man's face from the footage, obtained his identity, then used Tianyan to trace his whereabouts.

It's now 1 a. m.; only an hour and a half has passed since the incident.

Tianyan shows the man is still at his home.

The officers said nothing else and set off to arrest him immediately.

Ta Ying Xiao Qu.

Unit 3 Room 604.

"Dong dong dong."

"Who is it?"

"Your delivery has arrived."

"I didn't order delivery; you delivered to the wrong place."

They originally tried to trick the man into opening the door, but he didn't bite, so Xu Mo had to use his lock‑picking skill, pulling out a wire, inserting it into the keyhole and prying the door open in a couple of tries.

After opening the door, the officers rushed in, swarmed, and pinned the man on the floor.

It's worth noting that there was another corpse in the room, the same Fake Corpse from the hospital.

Their guess was correct; the corpse was the one the man stole.

"Caught red‑handed, the corpse is in his house; we really got him," one officer chuckled, then pulled out the silver Handcuffs from his waist and cuffed the man.
