Chapter 487: Team Leader Xu Caught the Wrong Person? No Way
The criminals Xu Mo captured all morning were so many that the Police Station simply didn't have enough space to detain them, and the number of criminals far exceeded the number of Small Black Rooms.
One person per room is impossible.
There's no way around it, so the police officers have to squeeze the criminals Xu Mo captured together, several of them crammed into one Small Black Room.
"Can't handle it?" Xu Mo scratched his head, having previously been busy expanding the Criminal Capture Radar's range and forgetting to consider the Police Station's capacity.
"Hmm." Han Fei nodded, "The Police Station has already detained many people before; you've just brought in so many more. There are too many, we can't lock them all up. Have a bite and rest; even if we keep catching people, we'll wait until we finish processing this batch."
Xu Mo glanced at the wall clock; it was already noon, twelve o'clock.
He had been so busy he'd lost track of time, but after Han Fei's reminder, he really felt a bit hungry.
"By the way," Han Fei suddenly said, looking at Xu Mo with a puzzled expression, "Are you sure all the people you captured have actually committed crimes?"
It's not that Han Fei doubts Xu Mo's ability; the problem is that among the people Xu Mo captured, some act bewildered, even not knowing why they were arrested.
When Han Fei interrogated them, they claimed they had never committed any crime, and Lao Xingzhen, the experienced veteran, found no signs of lying; this group seemed to have never broken the law.
Xu Mo instantly understood what Han Fei meant.
"Did you run into trouble during interrogation? Anyone refusing to confess?"
The people he captured are, without exception, criminals; he would never take the wrong person, Xu Mo can guarantee that.
The reason some refuse to confess is simple: the Criminal Capture Radar identifies not only recent offenders but anyone who has ever broken the law; even crimes committed ten or twenty years ago are accurately detected.
For some of those captured, the crimes occurred so long ago that they simply cannot recall what happened back then.
They can't remember any illegal acts they committed, so what can they possibly explain?
So when they are brought to the Police Station they act utterly bewildered, one after another thinking: "Why are you arresting me? I'm a good person!"
Of course, thanks to the Criminal Capture Radar's nature, Xu Mo still knows exactly what crimes these people have committed.
After all, when apprehending, the Criminal Capture Radar had indicated the time frames and offenses, but Xu Mo prioritizes efficiency; once the Radar locks onto a criminal, he simply cuffs them and takes them away, without any idle talk.
When returning to the Police Station, Xu Mo just hands the captured individuals to the police officers without mentioning their charges; after all, most offenders realize their misdeeds are exposed as soon as they arrive, and the officers can easily elicit what illegal acts they've done.
"Right." Han Fei nodded, "But I feel they're not deliberately staying silent; it's as if they never committed any crime. Why don't you take a look?"
Han Fei still couldn't bring himself to say that Xu Mo might have taken the wrong people.
Because in Han Fei's subconscious, the notion of Xu Mo capturing the wrong person would never happen.
"Then Han Team, lead me over to take a look."
…
Interrogation Room.
A bewildered middle‑aged man sits here.
"Comrade police, did you arrest the wrong person?"
The officer interrogating him also looks utterly confused.
The man's tone and expression are perfectly normal, not seeming like a lie.
"Could it be a mistake?" the officer thought.
Yet as soon as the thought arose, he immediately shook his head: impossible! How could Team Leader Xu get the wrong person?
Thinking that, the officer couldn't help but scold,
"You've never done anything bad, how could we have captured you? Be honest! What exactly have you done?" ωωw.. net
Middle‑aged man: "???"
"Comrade police, I truly can't recall any wrongdoing I've done; could you give me a hint?"
Hearing this, the officer was momentarily at a loss for words.
"Yeah, what bad thing did you do? You ask me? How the hell should I know!"
The officer also didn't know what this seemingly honest man had done, because when Xu Mo brought him in he never mentioned this batch, only said he was a criminal, then turned and left to keep catching people.
While the two sides were at an impasse, the Interrogation Room door was pushed open.
The people who entered were Han Fei and Xu Mo.
Seeing them, the officer instantly cast a pleading look toward the two.
"Han Team, Team Leader Xu… he just won't confess."
The man seated in the interrogation chair, upon seeing Xu Mo, immediately became agitated.
It was this man who had been taken back; he was at work, and the other side without a word gave him a silver 'bracelet', then brought him to the Police Station.
"Comrade, you finally made it; quickly explain to them that you captured the wrong person, right? I really didn't do anything!"
The Criminal Capture Radar locked onto this man and fed Xu Mo the crimes he had committed.
This man, ten years ago, had hunted several National First-Class Protected Animals.
Meeting the man's gaze, Xu Mo shook his head.
"I didn't take the wrong person; it's you. Let me ask: ten years ago, did you hunt several multicolored wild chickens beside a Wild Lake? Did you also bring those chickens home to eat?"
Upon hearing this, the man immediately furrowed his brow and began to ponder.
"Ten years ago, I hunted a few multicolored wild chickens beside a Wild Lake? Did I ever kill wild chickens?"
A few dozen seconds later, the man's face suddenly showed an epiphany; he remembered that he indeed had broken the law!
When he was young, he became obsessed with fishing; in the fishing community there's a mantra: Fisherman Never Returns Empty.
Being empty is impossible; this life also cannot be empty. If you can't catch fish, look around for wild rabbits or chickens, catch a couple and bring them back; if that still doesn't work, pick a couple of wild fruits and shove them in your mouth—doesn't matter which fruit, just stuff it in… if still insufficient, lie down and drink a couple sips of water!
Ten years ago, having just become obsessed with fishing, that day he fished by the lake for ten straight hours without a single bite; unwilling to leave empty‑handed, his mind turned elsewhere.
It was a coincidence: at that moment he saw a wild chicken by the lake, and without thinking he used a Casting Net to catch the chicken and took it home to make soup.
The man found the chicken unusually tasty, looked it up online, and was shocked to discover that the chicken's breed was a National First-Class Protected Animal; hunting it was illegal!
He felt a wave of fear and swore never to do it again; of course he didn't turn himself in, since only he knew about it, and as long as he kept silent, the police couldn't catch him.
However, the good times didn't last; half a month later, during a wild‑fishing trip, he again caught no fish, intended to pick a couple of wild fruits by the lake to take away, but unexpectedly he saw that kind of wild chicken again…
The man recalled the taste of the wild chicken, his mouth watered involuntarily; he glanced around, saw no one nearby, silently picked up the Casting Net and caught this one as well.
