Chapter 495: Ah, Right, Right
"Hey, did you know those cats at the Police Station entrance can actually understand human speech!"
Xiao Hu shared this with his colleagues at the Police Station.
But no one paid him any attention at all; they just thought he was joking.
"No, look at your faces—what I'm saying is true; I saw Team Leader Xu talking to them with my own eyes!"
"Umm… I believe you!"
"Ah, right, right… cats can understand human speech."
The officers all nodded at him perfunctorily.
Cats can understand human speech? What nonsense!
"What I said is truly true; why does nobody believe me?" Xiao Hu got impatient: "If you don't believe, go ask Team Leader Xu; he can prove I'm right!"
He said that, but the officers weren't that dull; who would go to Team Leader Xu to ask if cats can understand human speech? That's just absurd!
At that moment, Xu Mo had just seen off the woman, fed the cats, and entered the Police Station.
Xiao Hu, as if he had found a savior, asked Xu Mo in front of his colleagues.
"Team Leader Xu, those cats at the entrance can understand you, right? I just told them and no one believed me; please tell them that what I said is true."
Xu Mo laughed half‑jokingly, half‑seriously, and said
"Haha, right, Xiao Hu is telling the truth; I can talk to cats, and they even say I'm handsome."
At that, the officers also burst into laughter along with Xu Mo.
Although Xu Mo said it that way, even if you beat them, they wouldn't believe, and everyone just thought he was playing along with Xiao Hu's joke.
After all, how could a cat possibly understand human speech?
If we said a trained cat could obey a few simple commands—like "shake hands", "sit", "lie down"—people would believe, because that's normal.
But being able to follow a owner's verbal instructions and actually understanding human speech are completely different concepts.
The reason Xu Mo dares to openly demonstrate his ability to communicate with cats in front of Xiao Hu—and to admit it before so many officers—is that even if he said it aloud, no one would believe, and everyone would just treat it as a joke.
Just then, a delivery rider carrying bags of fruit arrived at the Police Station entrance.
"There's a delivery ordered by Ms. Li here; who is Ms. Li?"
The officers exchanged glances and then simultaneously nodded: "We don't have a Ms. Li here; you must have delivered to the wrong place."
"Impossible; the address is right here, it's written on the order, look."
"But we truly have no lady surnamed Li; maybe she wrote the address wrong?"
"Then I'll give her a call," the rider took out his phone and called the customer.
Soon, he said to the officers,
"I asked, and it's not a mistake; Ms. Li says she ordered for you, I've left the items here, and I have to go deliver the next order."
After speaking, the delivery rider placed the baskets of fruit on the table and turned to leave.
Xiao Hu, aware of the situation, glanced at Xu Mo.
"Team Leader Xu, the lady who just filed a report seemed to be surnamed Li; this should be hers. How should we handle these fruits? Should we return them?"
"We don't even know where she lives; let's just divide them among everyone," Xu Mo said. "It's not like she's sending us money; keeping them isn't a problem, and it's her goodwill—wasting them would be a shame."
Near the end of the shift, each officer received a few portions of fruit salad.
The younger, unmarried officers ate their fruit salad on the spot, while the older, married ones simply took theirs home for their families.
Xu Mo fell into the former category; he finished his fruit salad before heading home after work.
When he got home, Xu Mo found the villa's door ajar.
He stepped inside and discovered an uninvited guest—a golden‑gradient cat.
The four women were gathered in the living room playing with the cat.
"Where did this cat come from?" Xu Mo asked while bending down to change shoes.
"You're back," Zhou Qiaoqiao turned to look at the newly arrived Xu Mo. "We don't know; this kitten kept meowing at the door, and after we brought it inside it just wouldn't leave. We aren't sure if it got lost on its own or was abandoned."
After putting on his slippers, Xu Mo walked over to the kitten, squatted, and gave it a couple of pats.
Unexpectedly, the cat broke free from Xu Mo, darted straight into Zhou Qiaoqiao's arms, as if it despised Xu Mo's touch.
Xu Mo: "???"
Seeing Xu Mo look crestfallen, the four women couldn't help but laugh, and a bell‑like pleasant laughter echoed through the villa.
"This must be the legendary opposite‑sex attraction; it's a little tomcat, maybe it only likes being petted by the opposite sex."
Saying that, Zhou Qiaoqiao also cradled the cat in her arms.
The kitten purred, rubbing its head against An Youyi's hand with a look of pure enjoyment.
I can't keep you, a little kitten still trying to pry my corner? I need to think of a way to get rid of it! Xu Mo thought.
"Looks like you all like this cat quite a bit; why don't we temporarily keep it, and return it to its owner when we find them... By the way, I heard cats need to be neutered, otherwise they'll go into heat and yowl. How about we take it to get neutered?"
"Sure, sure! Then we'll keep it," An Youyi immediately nodded in agreement. She indeed liked the cat—a cute, clingy one, and its feel was great.
The other three also nodded, supporting Xu Mo's decision.
"Alright, let's go get it neutered," Xu Mo said, staring at the cat in Zhou Qiaoqiao's arms.
"Meow!"
"What? Don't want to get neutered? That's not up to you; in this house you have to obey me. If I say neuter, then neuter—let's go."
At those words, the cat that a second ago was unusually obedient and clingy suddenly went berserk, its round eyes bulging in terror, and it immediately broke free from Zhou Qiaoqiao's embrace.
It seemed to understand Xu Mo's words, muttering protests while scrambling out of the villa; it slipped on the floor and nearly slammed into the doorframe.
"Neutering can't be done lightly; you can't just say it, it's too scary!"
"After being neutered, wouldn't it be unable to hold its head up in front of a female cat?"
"This person is literally a demon! This house can't accommodate me, so I should just leave!"
Watching this little male cat rush out of the villa in a panic, Xu Mo was satisfied, thinking, "I still can't handle you? You want to mooch off my place but won't let me pet you—dream on!"
