Chapter 18: People Cannot Be Trusted
People, cannot be trusted.
Waiting for Fu Guang to arrive at the agreed spot, the team members were ready to continue.
Each one, men and women ranging from 1.8 to 2 meters tall, long-legged and upright, with handsome looks and excellent ability.
It attracted the attention of many sentinels.
Several people stood by the flowerbed, boredly waiting for the guide's arrival, occasionally exchanging cold retorts.
"Didn't you say you don't like guides? Why are you all here then?" Yin Zhu blew on her nails, mocking.
Each acting like the eldest son and the second son, yet they still fight over the slots.
She glanced at the few people with unchanged expressions and let out a cold snort.
She disliked their deadpan demeanor.
Some people's mouths are harder than their bones.
The sentinels were about to retort when they suddenly sensed Fu Guang's spiritual power fluctuation.
Bai Gao lifted his leg to intercept, but was stopped by the sentinels beside him.
"That little brat full of bad ideas, don't move, just wait." Shang Ze still wore a white suit, his white hair half‑tied, half‑loose behind his head.
The sentinels who had contacted Fu Guang could tell she disliked touching people; it was specified in the mission that she only needed to wait at the rendezvous point, not wait for latecomers.
They didn't violate it, and naturally they didn't allow others to violate it either.
The golden-haired girl stepped off the hovercar, dressed simply in a tight combat outfit with a long coat over it, extremely neat.
Her golden hair was pulled back, revealing a smooth, white neck; the sentinels' gazes lingered there a moment, then withdrew when she glanced over.
Fu Guang walked in; several people locked their eyes on her, while the fighting spirits scattered, howling as they lunged at her.
"Sister, it's great to go on a mission with you." The boy's silver eyes shone, as if holding the whole sky.
Fu Guang noticed that Bai Gao's pallid skin still bore visible bruises that hadn't faded.
She didn't respond to the boy's words, only saying, "Since everyone's here, I'll ask you one thing." Her azure eyes swept over the four.
"Sentinels, can you carry out the mission according to my orders?"
They are a group of S-rank war machines; sending them on a D-rank mission with her would obviously bury their abilities.
One S-rank mission could resolve this task, but that is clearly not Fu Guang's purpose for this outing.
She wants to grasp as much external information as possible and see her own abilities clearly; that is her capital for survival.
People, cannot be trusted.
Only the sun and the human heart cannot be stared at directly.
Some losses are enough after experiencing them once.
"This mission's captain is sister, so of course we follow the captain's orders." Bai Gao smiled, approached Fu Guang, and spoke gently, "Brothers and sisters, right?"
"Naturally we follow the captain." Yin Zhu spoke first; she came to support the little guide, so she readily agreed.
Shang Ze's eyes shifted, then after a moment he smiled and replied, "You're the captain; your word is law."
All gazes turned to Sheng Lai Ke Si; the green-eyed male's pointed ears twitched, and he only uttered an "uh."
"Let's set off now."
"Sister, which way do we plan to go from the institute's Sha Se Chang Lang?"
Fu Guang recalled the Wan Li Chang Lang she had observed when she came to the institute, and she turned her gaze toward Yin Zhu.
She's a weakling, needing help.
"Sister, why didn't you look for me?" Bai Gao stepped aside to block Fu Guang's view, sounding aggrieved.
Immediately he took an elbow from Yin Zhu; the tall woman's fierce eyes narrowed, conveying only one meaning: "You're tough, trying to steal my man."
Yin Zhu hoisted the little guide onto her back; Fu Guang hesitated, then pulled her cap down, leaving only her eyes exposed.
"Let's go." Before Yin Zhu's words finished, the group's figures had already sprinted out.
Fu Guang noticed Bai Gao's silhouette wasn't running but rather shifting through space, suddenly moving from one place to another.
Bai Gao caught Fu Guang's gaze, turned and smiled, flashing his white little tiger tooth, full of youthful vigor.
Wind swirled around Fu Guang; Sheng Lai Ke Si's wind ability encircled her side, blocking the blade‑sharp wind of high‑speed motion.
Several people moved across the Sha Se Chang Lang as if on flat ground, swift and agile, showing their familiarity with the corridor.
Along the way they disturbed no strange beast and smoothly arrived at the institute's starship docking point.
After going through tedious procedures, Fu Guang led three S‑rank sentinels and one A‑rank sentinel, under the astonished gazes of the staff, onto the journey to the polluted zone.
The starship gradually lifted off, shooting straight up, breaking planetary gravity to reach orbit.
The deep, enchanting starry sky once again captured Fu Guang's attention; the vast cosmos drew her in.
Whenever she gazed at the starry sky, she felt the heavens and earth vast, while she herself seemed as insignificant as a mayfly.
It was soundless and still, as if human joys and sorrows were weightless beneath that starry expanse.
A pair of hands covered her eyes; the leather gloves touched her skin, cool.
Fu Guang abruptly snapped out of that reverie, and the window beside her was also shaded by a thin curtain.
Noticing Fu Guang had awakened, Sheng Lai Ke Si withdrew his hand, said nothing, stood up, and prepared to leave.
"Sheng Lai Ke Si." Fu Guang called out to him.
The golden‑haired, blue‑eyed elf halted, turned, and sat back beside her, signaling his readiness to listen.
"No, nothing."
Fu Guang curled her lips, showing a faint smile to mask a moment of hesitation.
Perhaps sensing Fu Guang's deep‑seated bewilderment, Sheng Lai Ke Si conjured a small green bow‑arrow and handed it to her.
"Is this meant for me?"
She took the icy‑cold weapon, shorter than her palm, delicate and petite; as her fingertips lightly plucked the string, the bow‑arrow instantly emitted a clear hum.
"Thank you, I like it, I'll take it." Fu Guang turned to Sheng Lai Ke Si and said, Sheng Lai Ke Si's ears in the blond hair gradually grew hot.
The reddened ear tip poked out from the blond hair, letting Fu Guang notice.
Interesting Sentinel.
The nasty factor gradually became active, Fu Guang wanted to tease this bashful Sentinel.
"Are you shy?" she said, her gaze mischievously fixed on Sheng Lai Ke Si's ears.
The scorching red ear tip began to spread, tinting the warm-jade-like complexion and neck with a layer of rosy glow.
Sheng Lai Ke Si rose helplessly; he wanted to leave but felt it would be improper, yet standing there he felt like he was on fire.
Just then Bai Gao and the others returned to rescue him.
"Sister..." he thought Bai Gao's words were so pleasant to the ear for the first time, and hurriedly fled like the wind.
Yin Zhu beside them chuckled lightly twice.
It's rare to see Sheng Lai Ke Si so awkward.
Sheng Lai Ke Si is a Sentinel with a rare good temper; as long as he is not provoked, he never disturbs others.
Thus he is one of the few Sentinels Yin Zhu is willing to interact with, unlike the battle-crazed and scheming Sentinels; at least getting along with him requires no effort.
Seeing Sheng Lai Ke Si leave his seat, Bai Gao sat down naturally and began conversing with Fu Guang without asking what had happened.
