Chapter 21: SS Guide
SS Guide
Gradually unraveling these Sentinels trapped in the past is clearly unsuitable under the current circumstances.
Fu Guang heard the whipping sound of tree branches carried by the wind; she needed to awaken them.
The dark mental power divided into three streams, exchanging each person's nightmare with another's.
Yin Zhu's nightmare of Bai Gao.
Bai Gao's nightmare of Shang Ze.
Shang Ze's nightmare of Yin Zhu.
Yin Zhu, wielding a blade, demolished the small house in less than a moment, kicked the door open, and swaggered out.
Bai Gao collapsed weakly, but with his adaptable wit, he soon enjoyed a life like that of a young master.
Shang Ze employed a tactic; without drawing blood, he caused the incoming assassins to turn on each other in chaos.
Fu Guang twitched the corner of her mouth, then withdrew her mental power.
She opened her eyes; the emerald branches lunging at her were pinned to the ground by an arrow, its fletching trembling incessantly.
A little elf lay on her forehead, and a layer of emerald protective shield appeared around her, enveloping her.
Wow, this ability full of security truly made her envious.
Clad in soft armor, Sheng Lai Ke Si held a green bow-arrow with a bow but no string; the arrow formed instantly on it, one arrow per target.
Some who broke through his ranged zone turned their arrow blades into nails, kicked them out with their legs, striking enemies with damage no less than that of arrows.
Yin Zhu awoke extremely quickly; the small cat hidden in her pocket left afterimages as it ran to her side, and two soft beast ears sprouted from her brown hair.
She held a curved blade, nodded at Fu Guang, turned and entered the darkness, merging with it; only the sound of the blade slicing branches and sap bursting within them could be heard.
Shang Ze and Bai Gao awoke simultaneously.
Bai Gao's hand formed a long sword from silver fragments, which he thrust into the flowers and leaves.
Shang Ze remained in place; a white fox appeared at his side, growing immensely large, his form then dissipated, and the white fox opened its eyes.
The three tails swayed, about to howl, but thinking of the fragile guide, they silently buried themselves among the flowers.
The three unleashed full firepower, like a hurricane passing, the sky filled with drifting fallen blossoms, petals fluttering down.
Sheng Lai Ke Si controlled a small whirlwind, lifting the petals so none would fall near the guard, to prevent mishaps.
Controlling the three's mental power made Fu Guang feel dizzy; her accumulated mental power was exhausted, and fatigue welled up.
Before losing consciousness, Fu Guang suddenly realized she herself was the target of the Snow Lotus.
"I never expected such an excellent guide to come here." A slender figure emerged from the white mist, stepping on the Snow Lotus petals and walking toward Fu Guang.
The flowers and the beautiful woman complemented each other; her lips resembled the softest petals, her eyes and brows like a shimmering lake, her visage like a blooming Snow Lotus.
"My spiritual form is the Snow Lotus; you may call me Fu Rong." Fu Rong's voice was soft, every movement bearing an imperceptible... tenderness.
Such a gentle woman does not seem to be the source of pollution.
Seeming to see through Fu Guang's thoughts, Fu Rong approached her and had her sit on a swing that suddenly appeared, entwined with flower branches.
"You should be able to tell, I have long been dead." Fu Guang nodded; the white mist was damp and warm.
"After an S-rank guide dies, their mental power does not instantly dissipate; if someone promptly preserves their spiritual form, the guide can survive as a spiritual entity."
Alarm bells rang full blast in Fu Guang's mind.
This woman is very dangerous.
"What about the senior?"
Fu Rong startled, "You're asking about my rank? Let me think—it's been so long." She pondered for a while, as if recalling the past, the surrounding mist grew thicker.
"I was once an SS-rank guide."
Fu Guang's lowered lashes trembled; in the interstellar era there are no SS-rank guides left—what luck does she have to encounter an SS-rank on a D-rank mission?
Is a pie falling from the sky meant to smash her to death?
An icy, soft hand slipped around her neck, chilling her to the bone, making her shudder involuntarily.
"Senior." Fu Guang whispered.
"Good child." That hand paused, then patted her shoulder.
"I should have dissipated long ago, but someone won't let me go, and I'm reluctant to leave." A Snow Lotus was placed before Fu Guang.
The atmosphere grew tense; Fu Guang could hear only her own violent heartbeat.
Fu Guang silently accepted it.
The graceful woman, seemingly unaware, turned her back to Fu Guang and said, "As a guide, you've done well."
"However, sometimes you need not overly concern yourself with the Sentinels' lives and deaths."
"Just as that white-haired Shang family boy said, let them die."
"When you become strong, let the senior of the White Tower lead you to the battlefield to gain experience; then you won't be so soft-hearted."
Fu Guang inexplicably received a lecture; before she could speak, the slender graceful figure had already vanished into the white mist.
The white mist spread again; she slowly opened her eyes.
Before her lay a dark, deep starry sky; she was actually drifting in space, with the Sentinels around her gathering their weapons and encircling her.
When she moved, she felt an unfamiliar sensation in her hand; she picked it up and saw it was a budding Snow Lotus.
"Drop it into your blood, nurture it to bloom, and it can block a fatal attack for you."
The woman's voice whispered in her mind.
"If the military asks, just give my name, Snow Lotus."
"You have nothing to do here; don't come back."
The sensation of drifting in the starry sky was still wonderful; Fu Guang stretched her limbs and had no urge to get up for a moment.
But she forgot that she had not yet reached the point where she could survive without breathing.
Yin Zhu scooped her up by the waist and found a nearby planet to land on.
The planet's guard team immediately spotted the blatant illegal intruder; Shang Ze stepped forward and displayed his Alliance University S-rank Sentinel identification.
"Alliance University secret mission, I hope we can keep it low-key, otherwise the military will be hard to explain." Shang Ze put on a businesslike smile.
Behind his gold-rimmed glasses, the fierce battle just now had given his eyes a sharp edge that shattered his usual aristocratic demeanor.
The S-rank Sentinel's powerful aura made the guard captain break into a sweat.
Although this planet is relatively near the capital and Flower God star systems, it's merely a D-rank world—how could a big shot show up here?
He smiled, his gaze drifting, "And what about that one?"
"The most basic thing about being human is not to pry into what you shouldn't." The slender purple-haired youth, tall and long-legged, stepped forward; compared to Shang Ze, he had a touch more wickedness.
He also flashed his ID at the guard captain.
"All good?" Silver light whirled rapidly at his fingertips.
"All right." The guard captain judged this to be a small unit—an A-rank or higher squad—more than capable of taking down this planet.
He swallowed nervously and said, "I understand, I understand."
Fu Guang, her face hidden under a cap, gazed doubtfully at Bai Gao, who was shielding her.
The silver light in the youth's hand swirled faster; "It's best not to reveal your guide identity when we're out."
"You don't need to know why." The youth lowered his gaze, loosened the top button of his white shirt, revealing a delicate collarbone.
