Chapter 42: Shark Person

Shark Person

The heavens and earth were a dim red, everywhere stained red by blood, with scattered mecha fragments embedded in the crimson land.

A bone-chilling wind blew as if from hell, lifting the red soil to reveal human limbs beneath.

In the distance, the incessant roars of alien species reverberated.

On a slope, several towering mechs stood, their faintly gathered fire elemental power forming flames to dispel the chill for the surrounding sentinels.

In the flickering firelight, silhouettes of sentinels brimming with killing intent appeared.

"The wind of Han Chuan Abyss truly lives up to its name." The speaking sentinel, beard stubbled, his worn military uniform torn in several places, revealing muscles, hung on him as if about to fall off.

"I've been an S-rank sentinel for so long, this is the first time I've felt cold." He cursed.

Turning to the Killing God beside him, he said, "Usually I only knew the name but never saw the person; today, seeing the Alliance University's S-rank sentinel, the reputation is well-deserved."

Li Shao, beside him, lowered his eyes and seriously cleaned his gun, carefully wiping it with a white silk cloth.

"Hey, you..." the sentinel was about to start a conversation when the red-haired man beside him approached.

But he abruptly recoiled a step back.

Li Shao slightly lifted his gaze; the killing intent contained in his red eyes seemed about to burst forth, fierce and bloodthirsty, startling even the veteran sentinels who had graduated after a hundred battles.

Under Li Shao's gaze like that of a ferocious beast, he involuntarily sat upright and turned his head away.

He secretly marveled, "Truly a Killing God! At such a young age, I don't know how many alien species he has slain."

He also secretly pondered, "On the centenary military merit list, I wonder where he ranks? Surely he's not low."

Seeing the other remain silent, Li Shao carefully wiped every part of his natal weapon; his fingertip passed over the sharp spear tip, the cool sensation soothing his restless blood.

The sentinel looked around; everyone nearby was from Alliance University, sharing the same arrogance, taciturnity, and soaring killing intent.

He seemingly rose casually, saying, "I've rested enough, I'm leaving first," and slipped away at great speed.

No one paid him any heed.

A black-haired male sentinel propped on one leg, leaning against a mech; in the firelight, his face half-hidden in shadow, his blue eyes bright, blue fish fins seeming transparent, growing at the sides of his ears.

He was a sentinel on the verge of mutation.

He opened his lips, "Li Shao, how about exchanging my fire essence for your water essence?" His voice was unusually moving, as if possessing the most wonderful voice in the world.

Lan An did not worry that Li Shao would refuse; for S-rank sentinels, essence is a lifesaving medicine that can broaden the mental landscape.

Increasing spiritual power while keeping pollution unchanged can temporarily alleviate a pollution episode.

Being water-aligned, fire essence is not only useless to him but also harms his mental landscape; same-aligned essence yields twice the result with half the effort.

I don't know how a fire-aligned clan that he left would store water essence.

"No." Li Shao replied succinctly.

Lan An's brow furrowed, thinking Li Shao had changed his temperament and was dissatisfied with the stake he offered.

The teammate beside him, of an explosive temperament, immediately exploded, forcing himself to stay rational and lowering his voice: "Li Shao, we are not just classmates but comrades; water essence is of no use to you, what's the harm..."

The others also changed their expressions; although competition among sentinels is fierce, a sentinel's life, a comrade's life, is still a life.

Li Shao's eyes sank, his hand gripping the spear shaft, flames igniting over his body.

He is arrogant, never inclined to explain, let alone face such confrontational words.

For others' various dissatisfactions, he is accustomed to settling them with his fists.

Lan An raised a hand to stop the teammate's words, his gaze fixed on Li Shao as he added, "Li Shao, I can still..."

Li Shao slightly tilted his head, his gaze landing on Lan Ran, and said slowly, "I said, no."

Before his words even finished, the atmosphere instantly tensed; a desolate wind stirred, fluttering everyone's garments.

Lan An's face darkened, his eyes narrowing dangerously, as a familiar wave sound rose.

"Sentinel, return with me." A girl's cold voice suddenly sounded in the ear, surging together with the wave sound.

Li Shao's grip on the spear loosened slightly, and he relented.

He looked at Lan An's fish fins, the red at the corners of his eyes deepening, and said, "It's been given out."

He rose, his back to everyone, the spear planted at his side, "Try another way."

Before leaving, he threw the blue spirit medicine toward Lan An, considering it fulfillment of his comradeship.

Then he lingered no longer; following the instructions in his communicator, he headed to the next battlefield.

"A B-rank medicine? Li Shao is playing us!" The gray-haired sentinel clenched his fists, wanting to rush forward to confront Li Shao.

"Who does he look down on? Even giving nothing would be better than handing out a B-rank to look down on people, pure deception."

"If a B-rank medicine worked, could the boss still be contaminated?"

They wouldn't doubt Li Shao's claim that he gave away S-rank essence.

This person neither lies nor deigns to lie.

"Boss." Azure chains wrapped around the gray-haired one's bare feet, restraining his movement.

Lan An shook the potion; the blue, like shallow seawater, swirled inside the reagent bottle.

"Looking for him is useless; save your strength—soon after leaving the battlefield, you'll have to rely on yourselves."

"Boss." The gray-haired sentinel's fists clenched and unclenched; after a moment he strode back, furious, "Boss, the brothers will definitely bring you back to the academy."

"Then I'll thank you in advance." Lan An opened the cap of the relief agent; instantly an extremely tempting aroma came, and his canine teeth involuntarily elongated.

"Boss, it smells so good." The gray-haired sentinel, as if entranced, said blankly.

That elusive fragrance seemed to wrap around his heart; as his heartbeat pulsed, the threads gradually tightened, tingling and numb, slowly sinking into his flesh.

Dangerous yet alluring.

Fortunately, it was only an instant; the water-aligned sentinels seemed to ascend to heaven in a second, then blinked back onto the battlefield.

Lan An closed his eyes, the fish fins at his ears twitching, and gulped down the relief agent.

In his mental landscape he found it—the strand of pure water spirit power belonging to the guide; his own spirit power surged like a tide.

Like a bandit, it snatched away that thread of mental power; after the tide receded, that fragile thread of mental power had already been hidden deep in the sea, like a treasure lost in the deep sea.

Starlight poured through the curtains into the room, landing on the fair face of the girl whose head was buried in the pillow; her fluffy blanket was kicked to her feet, with one corner hanging down to the floor.

The girl in pajamas slept curled up; a cool breeze blew in through the half-open window, and the girl's relaxed brow gradually furrowed.

Is this the ocean?

It seemed she had become an ordinary person; the bone-chilling cold of the seawater was no longer the familiar warmth she knew.

Fu Guang looked all around; half of the deep-blue sea had turned pitch black, as if a black veil covered her eyes, making nothing clear to see.

She felt an intense gaze from behind, staring at her with extreme fervor.

She turned her head, and not far away there was a male mermaid.

Black hair, blue eyes, bare upper body, with a long black-blue fish tail extending from his waist, covered in dazzling scales; the whole tail swayed gently with the water as he looked down at her from above.

When he noticed that Fu Guang had seen him, his blue eyes flashed, the corner of his mouth curled into a wild grin, and he flicked his fish tail, lunging toward her.

His long fish tail blocked her path, pulling her into the mermaid's icy embrace.
