Chapter 97: Pearl of the Sea Abyss
Pearl of the Sea Abyss
Why didn't you come, I'm here......
Fu Guang's mental landscape was touched by an unknown fluctuation; the girl's eyes sharpened, that distant and ethereal call, as if it were her illusion.
"What's wrong?" Lan'an lowered his head and asked the suddenly alert Fu Guang.
"Did you hear a calling voice?" Fu Guang's mental power flowed over her body's surface, investigating the source of the sound.
Lan'an's face turned solemn, his eyes scanning around, chains appeared in his hands, and he said in a low voice, "No."
"What did it say?" In the darkness there was nothing abnormal, only the continuous trickle of water.
"Why didn't you come?" Fu Guang stated; that voice no longer appeared, completely vanished, as if it were her illusion.
The words were too short, effective information too little; Lan'an had no clue—anything that could call a person, be it strange beasts, strange species, or fantasies, was possible.
He thought it over in his mind; this trip to Yummengze was a mission directly issued from the military's internal network, the mission title being to escort an S-rank Guide outward, only S-rank water-system Sentinels could apply.
Lan'an met the military's requirements; the pay for escorting a Guide was always higher than killing strange species, so he took the mission; on the other hand, he hadn't returned to Yummengze for a long time.
He didn't know whether this mission was related to that call.
Lan'an told Fu Guang his guess; Fu Guang had glanced at the mission overview earlier and only said it was to replenish the White Tower's stock.
"Let's go." Fu Guang suppressed the restless urge in her heart and the sense of danger accompanying that voice; her strength was still too weak, so she ought to be cautious.
"Okay." Lan'an lifted the girl and swam toward the exit.
But as she neared the exit, unknown mutterings and chaotic memories surfaced before her eyes; her body could not withstand the ever-growing mental power, leaving her like a dried-up fish, gasping helplessly.
Lan'an's panicked words echoed in her ears, yet as if separated by a thin membrane, she could only see his lips moving.
Fu Guang bit her lips, her face turning slightly pale, as if she'd applied too much pearl powder; she realized her consciousness was gradually leaving her body, wrapped in unknown energy, heading for the depths of the sea abyss.
A fist-sized pearl rotated in the center of the ruined temple; the murals on the temple walls had been eroded by water, their original images unrecognizable, leaving only bare walls.
The walls seemed made of crystal, reflecting seven-colored hues in the water waves, dazzling to the eyes.
Fu Guang's consciousness drifted, finding a random spot in the empty, sealed hall; the clean walls reflected her appearance, and within the wall was a grown woman.
Perhaps only one word could describe her—unrivaled beauty; at the sight of her, even the heavenly stars seemed to lose their luster.
Compared to Fu Guang as a girl, she opened her eyes wider; her irises were blue-gold, lifting her gaze and glancing back radiated brilliance, her willow brows like newly trimmed spring willow leaves, her lips naturally vermilion.
Fu Guang was undoubtedly beautiful, but compared to her looks, her restrained aura often made people overlook her beauty; those eyes gazing at it were like an abyss drawing in exploration.
The woman stood there, back straight, her movements light and graceful; the Pearl of the Sea Abyss gazed at her intently—this new crown prince.
Every hundred years a crown prince descends upon the world; these crown princes may be born as such or awaken midway, old or young, Guide or Sentinel, even ordinary people.
Fate bestows this honor—or perhaps curse—upon people of different identities, yet few are able to see it.
Some are dazzled by worldly prosperity, no longer heeding its call, lost in the glory promised by those in power.
Some, halfway through their journey, casually discard their lives, becoming a handful of loess.
Also, some people—the dark pearl twitched......, it smelled a familiar scent on this new crown prince's body.
Also unknown whether this crown prince could reach it.
Fu Guang didn't know what this pearl thought; an unnamed temple confined her soul here, the great hall vast and empty, only that black pearl flickering with faint light.
"Go down." The unknown voice echoed, wanting to permeate her mental defenses.
"Who are you?" Fu Guang's eyes sank; a wave of dizziness filled her mind, the expectations pressing on her almost simultaneously flashing before her.
"Live on." It was her family from childhood.
"Endless longevity." It was her teacher during cultivation.
"You will surely succeed; you are first place." It was her peers.
"May the fire of humanity burn eternally." A faceless woman murmured; it was a Guide she had briefly met in a dream.
"Since you can come here, your potential is not bad." The ethereal voice said; a beam of light shot from the black pearl toward Fu Guang, and she could not dodge it high up.
The black light was like a soundless, breathless airflow; Fu Guang's already shattered mental landscape kept trembling.
In the midst of her mental landscape, a long crack appeared on the blue egg's body; as the crack emerged, another strong heartbeat sounded in her ears.
Xiao Lan absorbed more and more mental power; the mental power that had gathered like a small lake rapidly dissipated, revealing dry land.
The already-repaired mental bulwark emitted cracking sounds; in just a few seconds it shattered the balance Fu Guang had painstakingly built.
Like a punctured balloon, the aura on Fu Guang's body plummeted at extreme speed, until she waned.
Lan'an held the girl whose vital energy had suddenly cut off, her life hanging by a thread; his heart was filled with uncontrollable panic—why did this happen all of a sudden, what exactly occurred!
Fu Guang barely opened her eyelids, looking at the pearl emanating black faint light; this pearl was powerful and unscrupulous, it detected her mental body's weakness and thus lent a hand—wanting it to break its shell quickly.
But it didn't care about her person; the difficulties arising from its actions, it didn't care about her life or death.
This act is utterly baffling; if she died, her mental body would vanish as well—does this pearl lack a brain?
The water before her eyes suddenly rippled; Fu Guang only felt as if she had been kicked out of some barrier.
After a bout of dizziness, she returned to her own body.
Floating in the water bubbles, a mermaid girl curled her body, hugging her tail, hair spread out, complexion soft, eyes tightly shut, as if asleep; yet no matter how the Sentinel called, she never opened those lively eyes.
Xiao Yu
Xiao Yu'er
A hoarse and rough voice, endless.
Blood-red eyes like a beast's fixed on the girl; two streams of unceasing mental power surged toward Fu Guang's near-dry mental landscape, resolving her current predicament.
Fu Guang observed her mental landscape; the blue egg within it had turned into a glutton, accepting any source of mental power, turning none away.
I can't control myself; the eggshell crack is too large—if I cannot match its strength by consuming enough mental power, I will dissipate.
Xiao Lan wailed, it had just slept, how could this happen, which bastard broke its shell?
