Chapter 101
99: A Dangerous Madman
A gust of wind blew through the campus of Liuhua Port Comprehensive University. A woman of twenty-seven or twenty-eight ran out of the school gate with red eyes, all the way from the School of Economics and Management office. Everyone was puzzled; what kind of event could make the most enthusiastic and dedicated beautiful counselor in the entire school flee in such a panic, leaving Liuhua Port overnight without even applying for leave from the school leadership?
Li Nuowei walked out of the office leisurely and muttered, "Counselor task check-in complete; next, I'll go perform the next task."
He walked with his hands in his pockets to the outer wall of the school's Second Canteen kitchen. As if he knew in advance that the second window from the left facing the wall could be opened freely, he opened the window and climbed directly into the kitchen. He silently passed a cutting board, swiped the kitchen knife resting on it, and then stepped behind a cook who was acting suspiciously. Before the other party could react, he slashed the man's neck with the knife. In an instant, blood gushed out like a fountain, and a flash of blood appeared.
His actions were smooth and fluid, as if he had rehearsed them countless times beforehand.
Casually tossing the knife next to the corpse, the blood-stained Li Nuowei stepped over the corpse, which had a ferocious grin on its face. His heel ruthlessly crushed the hand that had been tightly gripping a bag of "mysterious" white powdery frost, knocking the stuffed tofu filling the deceased had been mixing to the floor.
After finishing all this, Li Nuowei strolled through the kitchen corridor and pushed the door open to go outside. He happened to run into a pair of shy male and female students. He deliberately brushed past the boy who had his back to him, pushed him into the girl with his elbow, and immediately heard two gasps as the male and female students hugged each other tightly.
As he walked, Li Nuowei took off his blood-stained coat, crumpled it into a ball, and tossed it into a trash can nearby.
"Hmm, the time should be about right. I'll go to the Second Central Hospital in Liuhua Port to find him." Li Nuowei muttered as he walked out of the school gate. Hearing several gasps and screams coming from the school's Second Canteen, he acted as if he hadn't heard them at all. With a calm expression, he walked out of the gate, beat a couple to a taxi that had just stopped at the entrance, and smiled at the kind-looking driver, Ma Hong, "Please take me to the Second Central Hospital."
Ma Hong nodded with a smile, but a flash of doubt crossed his eyes. As a deputy sect leader of the Anhai Divine Society, he actually felt an indescribable, strange sensation from a college student he was meeting for the first time.
As time passed and the car drove toward the destination, Ma Hong's perception of Li Nuowei became more and more firm.
"Breaking news: According to the Shenzhou Meteorological and Astronomical Bureau, an Aquila Meteor Shower will appear before everyone in three days. It just so happens that the weather in Liuhua Port has been very clear lately, so friends who like meteor showers should not miss it..." The radio news was playing inside the taxi. Hearing the news, Ma Hong was all smiles, as if he had heard some good news.
"Eh, a meteor shower, that's really nice," Li Nuowei suddenly said, using the news topic.
Ma Hong subconsciously exercised the chatting instinct of a taxi driver and followed the topic, asking, "Does the young student like meteor showers too?"
"No." Li Nuowei shook his head and suddenly said with a smile toward the rearview mirror, "It's just that when I think about being able to have a meteor shower as a backdrop when I die, that would be quite a luxurious death scene."
Upon hearing this, Ma Hong's smile stiffened for a moment; it seemed to be the first time in his life he had encountered such a strange young man.
By now, he could tell that this young man seemed to be crazy.
"Die?" Ma Hong said meaningfully, "How could you think of such things at your age?"
"Can't help it, I've experienced a lot lately," Li Nuowei sighed.
Ma Hong frowned slightly and looked at Li Nuowei with some curiosity. It was only then that he suddenly noticed with sharp eyes that there were a few drops of recently dried blood on the light-colored part of the other's collar, and that clearly could not be blood left by Li Nuowei himself being injured.
From the trajectory and distribution of the splatter, the careful Ma Hong could guess that this young college student before him seemed to have just experienced a scene with a massive amount of blood loss not long ago, and this was very likely a murder scene. The so-called murderer was in all probability this young man who looked gentle but exuded a dangerous aura.
Perhaps because like repels like, although Ma Hong considered himself a madman deep down, this did not mean he could calmly stay in a confined space with another madman.
Ma Hong began to be wary of Li Nuowei. When he noticed that Li Nuowei had suddenly unbuckled his seatbelt, he had already secretly gripped the steering wheel tightly.
Li Nuowei slowly moved from the right side of the back seat to the left side. It looked unintentional, but it seemed truly deliberate.
This sudden move of his made Ma Hong's entire heart tighten. He couldn't help but frequently use gloomy eyes to focus on the young man sitting behind him, watching his every move with vigilance.
Ma Hong leaned forward, trying hard not to let himself lean against the back of the seat, because ten thousand ways for Li Nuowei to launch a surprise attack appeared in his mind. For example, the most classic and terrifying one: Li Nuowei suddenly rising up, wrapping his hands around the back of the driver's seat, and strangling his neck, single-mindedly wanting to send him to hell.
However, Li Nuowei seemed not to have noticed Ma Hong's expression and said to himself, "I'm going to the hospital today to visit a friend."
"Oh... is that so? Since you can go see her in person, she must be a girl you like," Ma Hong replied casually.
"No, he is a boy." Li Nuowei shook his head and continued, "I'm going to see him to make sure he hasn't gone completely crazy yet."
"Crazy? You mean your friend... is mentally ill?" The muscles on Ma Hong's face were twitching slightly. That deep look in his eyes seemed to say, "Birds of a feather flock together; a madman's friend is naturally a madman too."
"No, he was just persecuted by others. He's not like me; he can still be saved. As long as I persist and don't give up on him, he should still have a chance," Li Nuowei shook his head.
Ma Hong had not expected that this young man would so generously admit the fact that his brain was sick, and with such a serious look. He could only let out a dry laugh; he didn't know how to respond now.
Li Nuowei looked at the rearview mirror in the car with a smile and said to the eyes that were glancing at the mirror, "Do you think he still has a chance?"
While speaking, Li Nuowei made a move to reach his hand into his pocket. Ma Hong took in the other's actions, his hands gripping the steering wheel rubbing against it to make a strange sound, and bean-sized beads of sweat gathered on his forehead.
Brake!
"We're here." Ma Hong suddenly stepped on the brake, turned his head abruptly, and smiled stiffly at Li Nuowei, who had paused in his movement, "The Second Central Hospital."
