Chapter 127: 125 Reunion in the Mire
Walking down a dim and damp underground staircase, Yu Lianyun listened to the drip-drip sound of water, arriving at a spacious underground void; this was a shelter from the war era.
Yu Lianyun was fully equipped for her excursion and activated her Night Vision Device; everything in the darkness before her became clear and distinct. On the ground, she saw a mess of webbed footprints stretching toward an unknown direction.
According to the detection of her tactical watch, the magnetic field in this Underground Air Raid Shelter was extremely chaotic; it was no longer possible to determine direction via geomagnetism. At the same time, the magnetic field also interfered with external communication signals, and Yu Lianyun was now unable to contact the outside world.
Yu Lianyun was not particularly panicked, because by her side, two Blessing Avatars, far more bizarre and powerful than the appearance and abilities of the fish-men, were following closely. They would not watch her get hurt, because she was their exclusive food, and no other people or Abnormal creatures were allowed to covet her.
To "Yao Zhenzhen" and "Father," she was a jar of fine wine that needed time to ferment; the longer, the better. But the specific fermentation time was measured by them, so before she became the fine wine they were satisfied with, they would never allow other demons or monsters to take a bite of her flesh, not even a single hair.
Perhaps it was because they sensed the danger of Yu Lianyun's situation that they had all run out now.
Yet Yu Lianyun was not sure if they were truly acting out of a sincere desire to help her, because if it were truly sincere, she would not have been trapped on the island for so long before, nor would she have nearly died there.
Yu Lianyun suspected that these two fellows, who usually resided in her shadow, likely possessed their own unique intelligence. They now knew how to assess the situation; they would not come out even if beaten to death when they knew they couldn't win, silently hiding, and would only run out to save her life when they were certain of success, just like now.
Regardless of whether these two actually had intelligence, in short, the fact that these two guys were willing to come out was a huge help.
Yu Lianyun followed the footprints forward, suddenly hearing a strange low roar from afar. It was a sound she had heard before; a female college student suffering from the Jiaoren Disease whom she had interrogated not long ago had made this exact sound.
"Haida hui ke..." What this sound meant, Yu Lianyun did not seek to understand, but it seemed that different intonations carried different meanings; it was a language only fish-men could understand.
Halfway there, Yu Lianyun stopped in her tracks, the firearm in her hand slowly turning, aiming the muzzle at a fish-man standing quietly not far ahead.
The Night Vision Device could not render the colors a creature should have, but Yu Lianyun could still identify the fish-man's form through its silhouette. The back of the opponent actually had a True Form that was not much different from a human's, except the upper body muscles were particularly thick, with the back muscles and trapezius being extremely developed, making it look like a hunchback, with a row of fins blooming along the spine, sharp as a blade.
Seeing such a creature, Yu Lianyun did not have a hundred percent certainty that she could kill it; after all, the opponent was a creature covered in Scale, which might be bulletproof. The opponent's reaction speed and sensory abilities were also unknown; perhaps her sneak attack would be discovered by the opponent immediately, and it might even attract its nearby kin.
Thus, Yu Lianyun only aimed her muzzle at the opponent for a moment before silently thinking about bypassing it; better to avoid extra trouble.
However, Yu Lianyun had forgotten that she had two disobedient "evil spirits" by her side.
Yao Zhenzhen, whose movements were like a human-shaped spider, crawled onto the ceiling and slowly moved to the top of the fish-man's head. Just as Yu Lianyun hid her figure behind a concrete pillar, it suddenly launched an attack and pounced directly down onto the opponent.
The sluggish fish-man was caught off guard by this invisible opponent; it seemed to be roaring in anger, struggling with all its might, yet it could not move. Its limbs were tightly pinned by the immensely strong Yao Zhenzhen, and Yao Zhenzhen opened its pitch-black mouth, frantically spewing an unknown black fluid substance toward the opponent's gaping maw.
The fish-man could not see what was entering its mouth, but it could feel the horror and evil of that thing.
In less than a moment, the fish-man seemed to lose its vitality, its entire body becoming cold and stiff. Its two lightbulb-like eyes gradually dimmed, and when the brightness in both eyes extinguished, the fish-man was completely dead.
The dead fish-man gradually turned into black water, slowly dissolving and merging into the soles of Yao Zhenzhen's feet, as if being absorbed into her body.
Seeing this scene, although Yu Lianyun had witnessed the entire process of the fish-man being easily killed by the Blessing Avatar and knew that the Blessing Avatar was likely a more powerful existence than the fish-man, feeling surprised and excited, she knew as soon as she heard fierce roars coming from all directions that those fish-men had heard the final roar emitted by their companion before death, and they were coming to kill her directly.
Yu Lianyun's face fell; she could only activate her intuition, roughly sense a relatively safe direction, and then sprinted toward it without hesitation.
Seeing Yu Lianyun suddenly flee, the two Blessing Avatars immediately followed closely behind.
"How big is this place exactly?" Yu Lianyun watched as she moved further and further away from the direction where Drake and Li Nuowei had fled. She felt helpless in her heart, and upon seeing those ferocious-looking fish-men appear, she felt a wave of sorrow rise from within...
"Why did those fish-men stop chasing?" Drake was wondering why the group of fish-men that had been relentlessly pursuing him and Li Nuowei had suddenly lost almost everyone, followed immediately by the echo of several gunshots and the screams of the fish-men before death.
Li Nuowei heard it too. "It seems the people from the Xuanmi Group have caught up."
"Will they be okay?" Drake was a bit worried; after all, no matter what, the Xuanmi Group were only human. How could they fight against fish-men with super-strong physical constitutions?
Li Nuowei could only say, "I don't know. Let's try to trust them; they should be able to handle it."
As he spoke, he held the "Anhai Ancient Records" tightly and said seriously, "We can barely save ourselves. Not far ahead should be where the mire is located. Get ready."
Drake nodded, walked silently side by side with Li Nuowei, and soon reached the final corner.
Just one more step forward, and it would be Heaven in one thought, Hell in another, or perhaps an existence that combined both.
At this moment, Li Nuowei handed the "Anhai Ancient Records" he had been keeping well to Drake, telling him to go and experience death to see if the Anhai Ancient Records could truly unleash the mysterious power to suppress the sea monster forces.
At this, Drake widened his eyes. "Hey, aren't you going?"
"I'm not going; I'll wait to see your result," Li Nuowei smiled. "If you die, I will naturally restart this world."
