Chapter 17: Seventeen: Not Much of a Problem
Seventeen: Not Much of a Problem
The greatest flaw of humanity is arrogance.
On this point, Yu Lianyun had a deep realization; she thought she had prepared herself to face death, yet she did not expect her mindset to still lose to reality.
Now, she was merely a person clinging to life by a thread, and she would surely continue to live in such a wretched way; in this world that appeared peaceful but was secretly bizarre and grotesque, she was like a mouse living in a dark alley.
"Are you okay?" Li Yingqi stood beside the hospital bed and asked with concern.
Hearing the other person's words, Yu Lianyun's face, which seemed as if it were dead, finally showed a trace of stiff movement, and she tilted her head slightly: "Mm, I can't die yet."
"From the current perspective, your plan was a success; the Blessing that plagued you has weakened, and at the same time, you saved those companions who were affected by the female corpse," Li Yingqi said.
"Companions?" A look of surprise appeared in Yu Lianyun's eyes.
"Yes, from now on, you are a member of our Xuanmi Group," Li Yingqi smiled. "When you get better, I, Wei Jiang, and Team Leader He will all celebrate your joining."
Yu Lianyun slowly sketched out a smile and said sincerely: "Thank you."
"You get some good rest. I'll come to see you again when I have time to chat with you for a while. The medical conditions here are good, but they lack a human touch. I believe that if no one keeps you company, you might find it a bit boring." After Li Yingqi placed the flowers she brought into the vase on the bedside table, she smiled and said goodbye to Yu Lianyun before leaving the ward.
After Li Yingqi left, Yu Lianyun, whose body was wrapped like a mummy except for her head, looked at the ceiling, and silence brought her back to recall the events that happened on the day the "Seven-Day Death" Blessing took effect.
When the Blessing appeared, Yu Lianyun thought she could face it relatively calmly; although she wouldn't dare say she was at peace, she certainly wouldn't act like a coward too afraid to die.
She had already thought it through: when Yao Zhenzhen appeared later, she would chat with her like an old friend, and even if the other party didn't answer, she could still banter with her.
It was just that Yu Lianyun was wrong; there were simply too many things she could not foresee.
There is a saying spread all over the world that mirrors are entrances to other worlds, sometimes reflecting the world where those vengeful spirits who cannot return after death linger; that place is between reality and the unknown netherworld.
Perhaps it was precisely because of this that Yu Lianyun was able to see her father's ghost crawl out of the mirror that day, pressing toward her step by step.
Yes, her father appeared as the Blessing that was to kill her.
At that moment, Yu Lianyun suddenly realized that she had only prepared to be killed by Yao Zhenzhen, but she had not made the Awakening to be killed by anyone, least of all her deceased father.
Yu Lianyun already harbored guilt toward her father; when she saw the Blessing appear in the form of his Avatar, her psychological defenses completely collapsed, and she instinctively began to resist.
When her limbs were twisted by the father who was the Avatar of the Blessing, the trauma Yu Lianyun suffered mentally was actually greater than the physical pain.
"Perhaps I really deserve this." Yu Lianyun emerged from her memories, her back covered in cold sweat; she still could not let go, and when her mind wandered, she inevitably thought of the words Lin Ling had said to her.
No matter what happens in the future, her father's death is destined to accompany her for the rest of her life as her eternal inner demon.
She must slowly get used to the torture, get used to the pain, because that most evil Blessing was like the most perverted lover, having completely entangled her.
At this moment, a dark, indistinct object with her father's appearance and maintaining his state of death was crawling by her right hand, while a twisted object with the image of the ruined, white-clad woman with disheveled hair that was Yao Zhenzhen was also clinging tightly to her body, which was covered in plaster; both familiar faces were staring at her with the most morbid expressions, breathing on her...
"Lin Laoban, what are you burning?" Haimofen visited the Forest Cabin again, only to see Lin Ling standing outside the house, intermittently throwing things into a burning iron barrel; upon walking closer and looking, he couldn't help but be surprised, "It's actually videotapes?"
"Mm, because I probably won't have any use for them in the future." Lin Ling nodded with a smile, then glanced at the bladed gloves on Haimofen's hands and said, "You really do like this pair of gloves."
Haimofen chuckled, the blades on his hands rubbing against each other, simulating the reaction of a normal person rubbing their fingers when shy. "Yes, I've become completely obsessed with this pair of gloves, though it's a pity I can't carry them with me all the time."
"The Magic Sound in the attic has been expelled, yet you still insist on coming over every day to renew the lease; aren't you afraid of the trouble?" Lin Ling said with some emotion. "Have you ever thought that you might not need to use it anymore?"
"No, I need it, and I will always need it in the future." Haimofen looked at the gloves with infatuation. "What you see now is just a pair of ordinary gloves, but to me, they have already become a part of my hands; they are the flesh and blood I lost, the lost tactile sensation. Having them allows me to find the feeling of returning to my peak with inspiration."
"As long as you like it." Lin Ling grinned; to him, Haimofen would be his regular customer from now on. He didn't actually feel anything was wrong; the reminder just now was merely polite talk.
After Lin Ling dumped the remaining videotapes into the burning iron barrel, Haimofen followed respectfully behind Lin Ling and entered the shop together.
Lin Ling re-registered the lease for Haimofen's gloves, but next to the lease term for Haimofen's gloves in the register, he would always fill in a number, adding to it day by day; no one knew the reason why Lin Ling did this.
Haimofen never paid attention to Lin Ling's Abnormal behavior, nor would he ponder it deeply; his heart was filled only with the joy of "renewing his bond" with the gloves.
After being secretly happy for a while, Haimofen smiled somewhat wearily; he suddenly remembered Yu Lianyun, whom he had met a few days ago—the woman who was Lost Soul and then bumped into his arms; the other party had a beautiful hand shape but had not taken good care of her skin, and both hands were covered in chilblains, looking very unsightly.
Thus, Haimofen asked one more question: "Lin Laoban, do you have another female customer?"
"You've met?" Lin Ling blinked; he always liked to pretend he didn't know when he was fully aware, saying, "Her problem is actually not as serious as yours; she can be considered a lucky one."
"Then has the Abnormal on her been resolved?" Haimofen asked curiously.
Lin Ling smiled: "She is already the girl in the world who has received the deepest Blessing."
Haimofen was stunned for a moment, then realized something, nodded and said: "However, if that's the case, she is truly too lucky."
"How is she now?" Haimofen did not forget to ask one last time.
Lin Ling said with a smile: "She is living just fine, it's just that she can't come out to see people for the time being. If you are interested in her, why not come over and take a look every day? You might still run into her."
