Chapter 183: 179 Deadly Stone Statue

~7 min read 1,292 words

The creature depicted by the Stone Statue was roughly shaped like a winged-membrane organism with a large belly and multiple mammary sacs. Its entire body was pitch black, and its face lacked features—or rather, its features were beyond human comprehension, resembling a smooth convex mirror. A pair of enormous upper limbs, longer than its own body, appeared incredibly powerful. Although the statue was not alive and could not possibly capture even one-thousandth of the original's aura, it was enough to make anyone feel the coldness and rationality of this creature the moment they laid eyes on it.

Kelake knew very well that the Peering Shadow of All Things could not be fully sculpted, because the human eye could not fully perceive her true, complete form. She was a great existence residing in the gaps between the Different Dimensional Space, and the sole creature and master within those gaps. She was constantly observing and discerning the multi-dimensional universe from within those gaps, and her wisdom was infinitely close to omniscience. In terms of wisdom alone, it could be said that she was second only to the Transcender of All Things.

"Why is this thing here? Could this Kande be a member of the Yellow Sand Truth School?" Kelake recovered from his shock and thought calmly.

Yes, Alien Gods existing in the Different Dimensional Space had all cast their Avatars into this world, and the Peering Shadow of All Things was no exception. One of her Avatars was relatively well-known: the supreme god of the Yellow Sand Truth School, the God of Yellow Sand. Before leaving the world, the God of Yellow Sand left behind a book, which was the Book of Sand, formed from one of her true body's eyes.

Kelake had just had this thought, but quickly dismissed it, because the inner side of this white box was painted with some kind of restriction-like runes using special pigments. This did not look like the pious act of a believer treasuring an idol of their god.

"Does this count as unsealing it?" Kelake swallowed hard, but since taking the Stone Statue into his hands, he had not felt any discomfort so far.

If this Stone Statue had no influence, there would be no need for Kande or whoever else sealed it to lock it away. It must possess some Abnormal factor; perhaps he was already under an influence he could not perceive.

In any case, it was better to put the Stone Statue back first.

As if holding a piece of foul-smelling filth, Kelake disgustedly and quickly put the Stone Statue back into the box, then tucked the box back into the book cover and returned it to the bookshelf.

After investigating Kande's room for a while longer and finding nothing else, Kelake headed to the next room nearby.

Soon, Kelake had entered and investigated every room on this corridor that could be opened.

However, there were almost no others like Kande that could provide any unexpected discoveries. The furnishings and items stored in their bedrooms perfectly matched their status as servants, with almost no other suspicious or superfluous things.

Kelake intended to speed up his search and investigation, as he was not sure how much longer this blizzard-filled night would last; he had to act quickly. But just as he began to investigate the room on the second floor near the cliff side of the corridor where he lived, he was surprised to see a figure coming upstairs and immediately blew out the candle in his hand.

The concealment was timely and his movements were light; Kelake hid quickly before the other party could spot him, so the figure coming upstairs did not see a guest behaving so furtively.

Although he did not see the appearance clearly, Kelake still caught a glimpse of the figure's silhouette.

About one meter seventy tall, wearing a maid outfit, with a full and shapely figure—he was certain it was not Milaier, but Hela, the kitchen maid who had been harassed by Count Bluebeard at the dinner table.

Faintly hearing the sound of wheels moving in the corridor, Kelake immediately guessed: "It's a food cart. Could she be delivering a midnight snack to Count Bluebeard?"

This was highly probable; after all, considering Count Bluebeard's exaggerated physique, he was definitely irregular and indulgent in his diet, so it was entirely possible.

Thinking of this, Kelake had a flash of inspiration. He followed the faint light of the candle upstairs, which was a perfect opportunity to find where Count Bluebeard's master bedroom was located.

Kelake followed Hela the whole way until he saw her stop in front of a huge white double door, and he stopped as well.

He saw Hela knock on the door, and from inside the room came Count Bluebeard's voice, excited to the point of being shrill: "Hehehe, come in, come in..."

In the darkness, the candlelight was weak, and Kelake could not see Hela's expression at that moment. He only knew that when she pushed the door open and the room's lighting hit her face, her smile was charming and beautiful; she pushed the food cart into the Count's room with a sweet, radiant smile.

She was just smiling, without saying a word.

Kelake could imagine what would happen in the room next, but unfortunately, he could not provide any help. His gaze then locked onto a small door near the Count's room. After his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he could see things without needing light. He walked to that small door and glanced at the sign on it; it read "Study".

"Study? If I'm not mistaken, this should be the side door of the study, and its main entrance is actually connected to the Count's room." Kelake judged and guessed based on his knowledge of house structures.

He tried to turn the doorknob and found that it was locked, which meant he had no way to sneak into the Count's room from here.

Just as he was feeling speechless, Kelake heard the sound of the food cart coming out of the Count's room. He had no choice but to abandon the plan to sneak into the Count's room tonight, quickly head downstairs first, and run all the way back to his own bedroom.

After returning to his bedroom, Kelake finally felt sleepy. He moved the room's table to block the door, and only after taking some precautionary measures did he dare to lie down on the bed.

Looking at the gray, hazy world outside the window and listening to the shrill sounds of the cold wind passing through the gaps in the house, he felt dazzled and noisy, but all of this seemed to become a hypnotic method, allowing Kelake to quickly enter dreamland.

Whether it was the next day or not, Kelake did not feel how long he had slept. His sleep was very light, and it was only after opening his pocket watch that he was certain he had slept until about five o'clock the next morning.

This time was not early for him; he usually got up at this hour, then did morning exercises, cleaned, washed, changed clothes, and then went to work... but now, he might never be able to return to his former regular life.

Although it was already morning, the world's reaction was not that clear; the sky and the snow outside remained the same as before.

"Let's sleep a little longer." Kelake glanced at the table and chairs blocking the door, felt a strong sense of security, and continued to close his tired eyes.

He slept until he was awakened by Milaier's scream, which pierced through the entire Castle.

Count Bluebeard was dead, crushed to death by the Stone Statue he had touched last night.
