Chapter 221: 217 School Rumors
"Uncle, you're really bold, being so blatant inside the school... mm..." Misaki Naomi noticed the other party deliberately quickened his pace, so she immediately shut her mouth and followed closely behind.
At night, Kisaragi High School, after the teachers and students had left, appeared exceptionally desolate under the cold moonlight, as if flowers had lost their vitality and color, adding a sense of deathly stillness and gusts of eerie wind.
In such a dim, lightless school, two figures were walking unhurriedly through the school corridor. The sound of their footsteps echoed through the silent building, and every soft whisper of theirs sounded like a roar echoing between valleys.
Misaki Naomi followed behind He Jia'an in a slight panic, looking at the empty classrooms they passed. From time to time, she heard the dripping of a faucet from the restroom at the end of the corridor. Every detail could trigger endless nightmarish fantasies, and she remained vigilant of her surroundings, as if terrified that some terrible thing would suddenly jump out from a dark corner.
He Jia'an walked swaggeringly through the third-floor corridor and said calmly, "Isn't it just quieter than during the day? Is it really that scary?"
"That's because you haven't heard the horror rumors about this school!" Misaki Naomi clutched the back of He Jia'an's clothes, following tightly, and in her panic, she stepped on He Jia'an's heels from time to time.
He Jia'an didn't mind. He could steady his footing, but to accommodate Misaki Naomi's pace, he slowed down. Hearing what Misaki Naomi said, he immediately turned his head and asked curiously, "Besides Mimiko's Curse, does this school have any other rumors?"
"There are plenty! Like Hanako in the restroom, the Biological Laboratory that you can enter but never leave, and the school supposedly being a mass grave... Every story is terrifying!" Misaki Naomi said as if it were true, her pair of bright almond eyes wide open, looking even more beautiful than tonight's moon.
He Jia'an burst into laughter, asking with interest as he walked, "Then tell me about them, let's see if you can scare me."
"No way, telling horror stories at a time like this, I won't be able to sleep when I get home tonight." Misaki Naomi strongly resisted.
"However, this school you attend does indeed have some unusual aspects." He Jia'an stopped teasing her. His gaze swept over the dark corners around them. Although the New Year Red Envelope was helping him avoid the intrusion of evil spirits, he could still vaguely sense that in certain parts of this school, there seemed to be prying eyes.
He was all too familiar with the feeling of being watched; after all, in the years he had lived in the psychiatric hospital, he had always been spied upon by eyes from other dimensions.
Misaki Naomi simply gave up on being reserved and grabbed He Jia'an's arm, staying close to his side. "Uncle, don't scare me."
"I'm not scaring you, it's the truth." He Jia'an shook his head. "I don't know how the education on Abnormal knowledge is arranged here, but in the Shenzhou Region, courses on this aspect are only taught at the university level."
"Usually, so-called Abnormal factors refer to various supernatural phenomena. Since they are supernatural, they naturally come with eerie phenomena that exceed existing human cognition. These eerie phenomena are often limited to the range of activity of the source that caused these Abnormals, and this range is what we Investigators call an 'Anomalous Domain'. Some of these domains have restricted access, some do not, some are anywhere in the reality dimension we inhabit, and others exist in a Different Dimensional Space that ordinary people cannot perceive through their senses."
"And the Kisaragi High School you attend, in my view, is now almost no different from a common Anomalous Domain. There are indeed Abnormal factors entrenched here that exceed the scope of human cognition."
Misaki Naomi shuddered instantly. "Did you discover something?"
He Jia'an did not answer her question but stopped in his tracks. "We're here."
They had arrived at Mano Daichi's personal office, and next to the office was the laboratory classroom where students usually conducted chemistry experiments.
He Jia'an tried to open the office door, only to find that it was firmly locked.
"Do you know any other way to get in?" He Jia'an looked at Misaki Naomi.
Misaki Naomi thought for a moment. "Maybe we can climb through the window, but I don't know if the laboratory door is locked."
The two walked one after the other to the front and back doors of the chemistry laboratory. After trying to pull the door panels, He Jia'an found that the front door in front of him was locked, so he said to Misaki Naomi at the back door, "It's locked here, you..."
He saw that the area behind the back door was completely empty; Misaki Naomi had vanished. Just a moment ago, he had vaguely heard the sound of sliding door rollers being moved, as if the door had been opened.
Thinking that Misaki Naomi had gone into the laboratory first, He Jia'an quickly followed. But when he stepped into the classroom, which was filled with the smell of chemical reagents, he was shocked to find that Misaki Naomi was not there either.
Misaki Naomi had disappeared!
"Uncle, the door here isn't locked. I'm going in first, hurry up." Misaki Naomi was pleasantly surprised to find the back door unlocked. As she walked in, she didn't forget to call out to He Jia'an outside the classroom. But when she turned her head, she was bewildered to find that there was no door behind her. She looked around intently, and this was nowhere near a chemistry laboratory.
This place was filled with the stench of formalin and various decaying biological matter. Rows of storage racks were neatly arranged to the end of the classroom. On each shelf were transparent jars, inside of which were soaked chunks of flesh from unknown creatures. The semi-turbid liquid looked like spoiled pork bone broth, greenish-blue... This was clearly a Biological Laboratory!
Misaki Naomi felt her head buzzing, and her breathing became rapid. She discovered that the environment of this classroom was wrong; the classroom was surrounded by walls on all four sides, with no exit, and the lighting was also wrong!
She walked to the window in trepidation and looked up at the sky, only to see a huge, scarlet moon pressing close to the ground like a giant eyeball. The red light it cast shone through the glass into the classroom.
Following the path of the red light, Misaki Naomi covered her mouth in horror to suppress a scream. The things soaked in the jars on the storage racks were not animal carcasses at all, but clearly various tissues of the human body!
"Uncle, where are you..." Misaki Naomi wished so much at this moment that she could hug that sickly-looking uncle one more time, but she also knew she couldn't just sit and wait for death. She had realized that she must have broken into the "Biological Classroom that you can't leave" from the school's horror rumors.
Misaki Naomi knew the legend of the "Biological Classroom that you can't leave," but unfortunately, this horror legend was like a truncated story—it had no complete ending. Only the terrifying and creepy parts were circulated. As for the method to escape this place, whether the first person to spread it did so intentionally, or if later people deliberately weakened or cut out the "escape method" to make the story more interesting, no one knew now.
"Since the rumor is true, then the first person to spread it might have been the first person to escape from here. Being able to escape means there is an accurate way out." Misaki Naomi forced herself to think and stay calm.
