Chapter 27: Volume One Summary

~3 min read 456 words

Volume One Summary

The story of Volume One, Blessing, is over sixty-five thousand words in total.

According to my plan, each unit story constitutes one volume, with varying lengths.

Actually, the content of this volume was originally intended to be about ten thousand words longer; I had planned to insert a subplot that would have made the image of the main perspective character for this unit, Yu Lianyun, more multifaceted, and could have added a bit more expressive power to the Eastern mystery of "Blessing." However, that subplot crossed the line, so I revised the plot in time, and after much thought, I decided to delete the subplot.

In the volume-end summary, I will not chat with everyone about the story content; I will only tell everyone some Easter eggs.

As stated in the introduction, the theme of this book will mainly recount the collision between Eastern mystery and Cthulhu-style power.

As everyone knows, Eastern mystery is profound, while Cthulhu-style belongs to the science fiction level, so basically every volume of the story will feature at least one Eastern mystery power and one Cthulhu-style power unit.

The Eastern mystery power that appeared in this volume is a Curse named "Blessing," the power carrier is a videotape, and the prototype for the image is naturally Sadako, though the two are not the same and have different origins.

The Cthulhu-style powers that appeared are mainly three: first is definitely the red-clad female corpse, the story inspiration comes from a certain folk custom in our Chinese-style horror, as well as the movie "The Autopsy of Jane Doe"; then there is the three-armed ice giant, an interdimensional life race that exists in another dimension and has extremely strong aggression toward the reality dimension, characterized by the very thick arm on its back; the other is the Alien God worshipped by the three-armed ice giant, another high-dimensional life, whose Avatar manifested on Earth is an Other Shore Flower composed of countless flesh vines.

In addition, there are a few small Easter eggs: the two customers currently appearing in Lin Laoban's shop, one is the protagonist of this unit story, Yu Lianyun, and the other is Haimofen.

The story happening to Haimofen can only be conveyed through fragments; presumably, those familiar with Lovecraft's stories should be able to guess which famous Cthulhu story I am paying tribute to, and as for the two items he successively rented from Lin Laoban, I think as long as everyone has dabbled a little in some horror-themed movies, they can also guess what their prototypes are.

Finally, a summary of the matchup in this volume's story:

Eastern Mystery VS Cthulhu-style Power.

Eastern Mystery wins slightly, tentatively recorded as 1 point.

Humans... just lying flat is enough.
