Chapter 317: 313 Illness
Looking at this unprofessional blogger ID, Huang Zhengdao guessed that this blogger was likely a video uploader, and the kind so lazy they wouldn't even bother changing their ID.
However, when Huang Zhengdao saw the blogger's follower count, he was actually somewhat surprised.
A full 200,000+ followers; in the niche Sleep Aid Video circle, this follower count could be considered a pillar-level achievement, and this blogger would basically have to be the Sleep Aid Video creator themselves to achieve this while operating independently.
And Huang Zhengdao made an even more surprising discovery: this blogger had actually disabled the comment section for every single video, completely refusing any interaction between the blogger and fans or passersby.
"Could they really be a genius?" Huang Zhengdao clicked his tongue in wonder; he became even more curious about what magic this blogger's Sleep Aid Video possessed. Could it possibly be even more impressive than the top-ranked sleep aid video on the entire site he had just listened to?
Throughout the time he had spent browsing for sleep aid videos, he hadn't heard a single one that surpassed the quality of the young lady blogger he had just listened to.
Huang Zhengdao clicked on the latest video and discovered there was no footage; he hadn't expected it to truly be a pure audio video. Highly satisfied, he switched to background playback mode and then listened to the sleep-inducing sounds coming through his Bluetooth earphones.
……
Thump, thump, thump, thump—
Huang Zhengdao gradually woke up. He opened a pair of eyes filled with confusion and bewilderment and sat up. He stared blankly as the sunlight, which the curtains couldn't block, spilled into the room through the gaps. As his sluggish senses slowly recovered, the first thing he felt was an intense hunger.
"How long have I been asleep..." Huang Zhengdao felt a bit of pain in his back and neck. He looked back and discovered his Bluetooth earphones were scattered on the bed, one here and one there. The pain in his back was because he had been pressing down on the two little gadgets the whole time he was asleep.
He put the Bluetooth earphones back into their case, feeling slightly pleased, and muttered to himself: "Who would have thought this Sleep Aid Video would actually be so useful? If I can't sleep in the future, I can keep listening to it, although I can't quite remember what sounds were playing in the sleep aid video last night."
Huang Zhengdao tapped his phone screen to check the time. When he saw the time displayed, his eyes widened instantly. The matter he had temporarily forgotten hammered at his brain. He nimbly jumped out of bed and rushed into the bathroom. "Damn, I booked an appointment, it's almost time!"
After a hurried wash and change of clothes, Huang Zhengdao hailed a car and arrived at the hospital.
Fortunately, the hospital where he had booked the appointment wasn't far from his home. He picked up his number in the final two minutes before the registration expired, avoiding the risk of being put on the hospital's warning list.
Following the procedure, Huang Zhengdao met the doctor he had an appointment with.
"Young man, what seems to be the discomfort?" The doctor glanced at Huang Zhengdao and asked seriously.
Huang Zhengdao explained candidly: "Work pressure has been high lately, and I've had some insomnia. I was wondering if you could prescribe some traditional Chinese medicine to help regulate it."
The doctor nodded and asked Huang Zhengdao to put his hand over. He checked his pulse, pondered for a moment, and said: "Your diet has been irregular lately, and you haven't been eating very blandly, have you?"
"Uh, yes. To rush work, I've been too lazy to pick my meals and have just been eating burgers and fast food," Huang Zhengdao said sheepishly. Ever since he was a child, he had always felt a bit intimidated in front of doctors, especially older traditional Chinese medicine practitioners.
"Stop eating that, your internal heat is too high." The doctor shook his head, then asked Huang Zhengdao to stick out his tongue to check his mouth. His tongue and tonsils were a bit red and swollen. He listened to his heart and lungs, noted some slight murmurs, and then had Huang Zhengdao go get a blood test.
When Huang Zhengdao returned for a follow-up with the lab report, the doctor told him he had some internal heat, specifically heart fire; this was the reason he wasn't sleeping well and had trouble falling asleep. He suggested he pay more attention to resting, occasionally go out to clear his mind, and not be too anxious. Then, he prescribed a few doses of traditional Chinese medicine for Huang Zhengdao.
While the doctor was writing the prescription, Huang Zhengdao asked with a sheepish smile: "Doctor, is there anything seriously wrong with me?"
"It's quite common. Not long ago, another young person came to see me with the same issue as you—insomnia, endocrine disorders, internal heat... they might have even been worse off than you," Ceng Yisheng said casually. After a burst of typing on the keyboard, the printer on the desk began to work. Then the prescription was printed out. He took the prescription, signed it, stamped it, and handed it to Huang Zhengdao. "Go pick up your medicine."
"Alright." Huang Zhengdao took the prescription and left. Hearing Ceng Yisheng's calm tone, he felt relieved; it was good that he didn't have any major illness.
Arriving at the pharmacy to pick up the medicine, he found quite a lot of people queuing. Huang Zhengdao had no choice but to find a seat near the pharmacy and wait for his number to be called.
While bored, Huang Zhengdao was just about to play with his phone to kill time when his peripheral vision caught a little girl sitting next to him staring straight at him.
The little girl's face was deathly pale, her features were delicate, and her large eyes were watery. Despite looking unhealthy, she was quite exquisite and cute, making anyone who saw her feel a sense of pity.
"Little sister, are you here alone?" Huang Zhengdao couldn't help but ask with a smile.
The little girl wasn't shy. Her tone was normal and her expression was well-behaved as she said: "My dad went to buy me breakfast. I'm waiting here for the pharmacy to call my number."
She looked to be about in the fourth or fifth grade of elementary school. She didn't seem naughty; she was a quiet little girl.
"Are you sick too?" Huang Zhengdao noticed the little girl's complexion wasn't good.
"Yeah, there's something growing in my brain, but it's nothing," the little girl nodded.
Hearing this, Huang Zhengdao was stunned into silence, then managed a forced smile: "Do you know what that is? Are you afraid?"
"I know, and I'm not afraid. The boss brother, my dad, and the aunties and uncles will help me. Even if, in the worst case, it doesn't go well... that's okay too." A sweet smile appeared on the little girl's face.
Huang Zhengdao didn't know where this little girl got such strong confidence and composure, assuming it was just a child's ignorant toughness.
The little girl looked at Huang Zhengdao and said softly: "What about you, uncle? Are you okay?"
Hearing the little girl's concerned question, Huang Zhengdao was stunned again and chuckled dryly: "I'm fine, just some internal heat, insomnia, that sort of thing. Uh, if you can, call me brother."
"Okay, uncle."
The little girl probably hadn't taken it in. Her focus made Huang Zhengdao feel a bit uneasy because, upon closer inspection, he noticed that her gaze was actually focused more on a spot behind him most of the time. This feeling made his back crawl and the nape of his neck feel cold.
"Uncle, are you afraid of bugs?" the little girl asked out of the blue.
Huang Zhengdao thought there was a bug behind him or on him. He hurriedly reached back to swat at his head and looked behind him, only to find he had swatted at thin air and seen nothing; he hadn't hit anything and hadn't seen anything.
At this moment, the little girl giggled from behind him and said: "It's useless to do that, uncle. You can't see it, so of course you can't hit it. And since its two mouths are inserted into your ears, if you hurt it, you'll get hurt too. Just like that uncle who kept calling your name—he was grabbed by the bug and eaten."
