Chapter 352: Blood-Red Creature

~8 min read 1,408 words

The object thrown out flashed with golden light in the air, gradually self-igniting in the arc it traced, turning into a mass of fierce golden flames that charged toward the centipede-like monster behind.

The centipede-like monster collided head-on with the great golden fire; the fire could not stop the monster's movements, but the flames clung to the monster's body like maggots on bone, burning the half-dead, screaming women on the monster's surface one by one. It seemed to be the legendary Holy Fire; no evil could survive within its flames. Soon, those female bodies intertwined with the monster's body all turned into blood, then rapidly evaporated.

After losing the human females that had fused with it, the centipede-like monster slowly slowed its speed amidst a heaven-shaking, earth-shattering scream. Under the burning of the golden flames, its massive body also slowly withered and shriveled, gradually turning charred black.

A moment later, the centipede-like monster that had been relentlessly chasing Wang Han and Li Yuning stopped, motionless, as if it had lost its life. The entire monster seemed to have transformed into a pitch-black, hideous beast statue, emitting an indescribable stench from its whole body. Even from over ten steps away, Wang Han could still smell it, feeling dizzy and retching, wanting to lean against a wall to vomit.

"Don't stop, keep moving." Seeing this scene, Wang Han couldn't help but slow his pace, yet Li Yuning still ran forward nervously and anxiously, shouting, "This is no ordinary monster, not a common Abnormal creature; it is an Avatar of an Alien God!"

Upon hearing this, although Wang Han did not understand what an Avatar of an Alien God meant, nor which Alien God possessing heaven-reaching and earth-shattering power it was, his mind was infected by Li Yuning's fear and unease. He chose not to ask, endured the desire to stop and rest, and dragged his muscle-tearingly painful legs to keep up.

Sure enough, just after Wang Han took a few short, deep breaths, he heard a loud, explosive sound from behind. Immediately following, a multi-legged creature topped with a huge, blood-black gelatinous mass burst out from the charred corpse of the centipede-like monster; it seemed like a new life born from within the centipede-like monster's body.

The thing looked like some kind of enlarged, deformed single-celled organism, blood-red all over, with a huge head roughly the shape of a bowling pin, covered in deformed sharp beaks, teeth, eyes, and holes of unknown purpose. Its body grew extra-long, pale-red, translucent tentacles, the tips of which were suckers like blooming lilies. At the same time, its lower body had thick, squid-like tentacles that could swing to move it. Yet, this nearly three-to-four-meter-tall giant creature was no different from a light balloon; when it hopped forward on the ground, it was like a bouncing balloon, landing so lightly that its tentacles made not a sound, as if it were floating.

However, even more eerie and horrifying was that this strange thing was emitting a woman's sinister laughter from its entire body, as if the sound were not limited to the mouth on that swollen, twitching, jelly-like head. Its entire body could emit sounds; it was a structure that humans could not understand and could never hope to peer into or analyze.

The appearance of this thing was not nearly as aggressive or terrifying as the previous centipede's offensive, but the dangerous aura it exuded was not a bit less than that of the centipede.

This blood-red monster's pace was light; it appeared not to be walking fast, but in reality, it had almost never widened the gap between itself and Wang Han and the others. It was moving in an inconceivable way.

"Get in there!" Li Yuning, gauging the abnormality of Wang Han's legs, pointed to a room not far away, and then she was the first to run into the room.

Wang Han had to grit his teeth, his face flushed red from the pain in his legs, tears streaming from his eyes. Finally, at the very last second, he limped into the room, and the second before the blood-red creature was about to pounce in, Li Yuning slammed the door shut.

Bang!

The blood-red creature outside let out a strange cry. Several of its flower-like sucker tentacles that had slipped into the room were snapped off by the door, falling to the ground one by one. As if they had lives of their own, those tentacles also emitted screams like pain, jumping on the ground like fish out of water, finally slowly withering away, turning into some kind of foul-smelling, decomposed, rotting matter emitting black gas.

The blood-red creature attempted to ram the door, causing it to shake with every impact. After Li Yuning, who was leaning against the door, braced herself against it a few times, she fished a Talisman from her person and stuck the Talisman, covered in unknown red characters, between the cracks of the double doors.

In an instant, it was as if the door had been reinforced; no matter how the thing outside rammed the door, it could not cause the door to move in the slightest, and could only let out roars of what seemed like frustrated emotion, raging impotently outside.

Li Yuning breathed a sigh of relief, slumped to the ground, and said with lingering fear: "I didn't expect to run into an Avatar of that existence here."

Wang Han collapsed on the ground, grimacing. His legs felt as if they had lost all sensation and would not obey him. He felt as if he were a worm wriggling on the ground, crawling in a dark and twisted manner.

Seeing Wang Han's painful state, Li Yuning hurriedly stepped forward to care for him and ask about his condition, but Wang Han was in too much pain to speak; he had completely lost his voice.

"I have something; if you take it, you will recover immediately. Do you dare to eat it?" Realizing the severity of the problem with Wang Han's legs, Li Yuning thought of a method, but still hesitated to ask for his opinion first.

At this point, how could Wang Han care what the thing to eat was? As long as it could alleviate the pain, he was willing to eat it.

It turned out that the price of relying on willpower to endure cramps and forcibly resist physiological functions was so great. Wang Han felt that at least one blood vessel in each of his legs had burst. He didn't need to pull up his pant legs to know that both of his calves were swollen and still twitching uncontrollably.

Li Yuning took a deep breath, muttered "Sorry," and then straddled Wang Han's upper body, kneeling on his chest. Her knees pinned his hands down, and then she grabbed his twisted, hideous face with one hand, forcibly making him open his mouth.

He knew that Li Yuning, this seemingly unassuming young girl, was very strong, but he hadn't expected her to be strong enough to easily subdue even a somewhat out-of-control man.

Immediately after, Wang Han saw Li Yuning take a thin, long bamboo tube from her waist pouch. The lid of the small bamboo tube opened, and a golden, winged sphere with unknown bumpy textures slowly rolled to the mouth of the bottle. Under the gaze of Wang Han's terrified, wide-open eyes, he saw the sphere move, splitting open from the middle to reveal a terrifying face.

It was a type of insect he had never seen before, covered in fuzz and eerie black thorny teeth.

Wang Han had thought about how disgusting and foul-tasting the medicine he would have to take might be, but he never imagined that the thing he had to eat would be a living creature. Thus, he immediately had a stress reaction, erupting with even more terrifying strength, struggling to break free.

But it was already too late; Li Yuning, before the insect could wake up, shoved the entire bamboo tube into Wang Han's mouth.

Wang Han twitched crazily, whimpering and groaning but unable to let out a scream. He felt that thing "come alive" in his mouth, struggling just as he was, in his mouth, down his esophagus, all the way to his stomach. Every struggle was a piercing pain that left him riddled with holes.

This bout of pain lasted for about a minute, but it felt like years; Wang Han almost fainted.
