Chapter 3: The White Fang of the Leaf

~7 min read 1,349 words

Regardless, Kakashi was quite happy to have won, especially since this battle had been back-and-forth, with both sides having exhausted their efforts to some extent, which only added to Kakashi's sense of accomplishment.

Naturally, Kakashi did not renege on what he had promised Uchiha Feiyu, and even gifted Uchiha Feiyu a Sealing Scroll so he could tidy up the giant bear's carcass.

However, because the White Fang of the Leaf had gone out to execute a mission, Uchiha Feiyu would be unable to pay a visit for the time being.

After parting ways with Kakashi, Uchiha Feiyu returned to his own home; his current house was a detached dwelling, situated right on the outskirts of the Uchiha Clan grounds.

Opening the door and walking into the house, Uchiha Feiyu looked up at the family portrait placed on his desk, a trace of gloom flashing in his eyes.

Not long after Uchiha Feiyu's Awakening of the Sharingan, his civilian parents had suddenly died in an "accident."

Although, due to his reincarnation, Feiyu's feelings for his parents were not particularly deep, they were by no means indifferent; regarding their accidental deaths, he had always held a breath of stifled frustration in his heart.

It was just that, firstly, his strength was currently weak, and secondly, he did not know the true cause of his parents' deaths—although the Uchiha Clan was highly suspicious, as a pseudo-minor with a mature mind and an extreme understanding of Konoha, Feiyu would not directly identify the Uchiha as the culprits.

The conspirators of this world always liked to brainwash ninjas through methods like hatred; if someone were deliberately using this method to guide his hatred toward the Uchiha, Uchiha Feiyu would not be surprised in the slightest.

Uchiha Feiyu's consistent "slacking off" performance was indeed born from his nature of not wanting to be some ninja, but it also contained a portion of the intent to disguise himself; as long as he was bad enough, no one would be able to use him.

Having stayed at home for two days, on the morning of the third day, Uchiha Feiyu, who was in the middle of training, heard a knock at the door; he wiped off his sweat and walked straight to the door.

After the door opened, a white-haired youth appeared before Uchiha Feiyu; it was none other than Kakashi Hatake.

"Kakashi? What are you here for? Could it be that the White Fang senior has returned?"

"That's right, you're quite lucky; Father returned last night!"

"Didn't you want to pay a visit to my father? You can go today!"

Kakashi, wearing his mask, said this calmly, yet Uchiha Feiyu keenly sensed a hint of impatience in Kakashi's tone.

If it were anyone else, they might mistake Kakashi's attitude for being poor due to Uchiha Feiyu's request.

However, Uchiha Feiyu understood Kakashi's character well; at least, the Kakashi who was currently still in his "cub" state was the type of person who kept his word, and it was impossible for him to have such emotions because of his own request.

Could it be that the White Fang of the Leaf's mission this time had failed?

This thought crossed Uchiha Feiyu's mind; judging by the timeline, it was right around this time that the White Fang of the Leaf encountered the first and last failed mission of his life.

After that, Hatake Sakumo could not bear the rumors and committed suicide directly at home; to a certain extent, the death of the White Fang of the Leaf was also one of the fuses for the Third Shinobi World War.

Under Kakashi's lead, Uchiha Feiyu soon arrived at his doorstep; Kakashi knocked on the door, and a moment later, a ninja who looked somewhat weary opened the gate.

This ninja was tall and had a stern face; just from that silver hair and handsome appearance, one could see the blood relation to Kakashi.

His posture was straight, his movements standard and refined, as if he were a sharp blade; only his bloodshot eyes and slightly dazed gaze revealed his exhaustion.

Konoha had not yet reached the point where rumors were flying everywhere, but the only mission failure in his life had clearly dealt a significant blow to this ninja who had always maintained a perfect record.

Uchiha Feiyu, who knew the future, was very clear that all of this was just the beginning; before long, the rumors in Konoha and the accusations from other ninjas and comrades would be the true reason for this White Fang of the Leaf to break.

"Old man, this is that strange Uchiha I told you about!"

Kakashi was young and did not notice his father's decadence, but he also knew that after his father's mission failure, his mood certainly wouldn't be good, so after a brief introduction, he stopped talking.

Upon hearing Kakashi's words, Hatake Sakumo finally focused his gaze on Uchiha Feiyu; after sizing Uchiha Feiyu up for a moment, this White Fang of the Leaf was actually quite surprised.

"So you are Kakashi's friend? You've trained your body quite well! There aren't many Uchiha nowadays willing to put in the effort on their own foundation!"

"I have heard some rumors within the Uchiha, but looking at you now, you are certainly no mediocre person who just happened to awaken the Sharingan."

As the elite ninja who executed the most missions in Konoha, the White Fang of the Leaf naturally knew the Uchiha Clan in great detail; excluding external factors like personality, this clan was indeed worthy of being Konoha's number one clan in terms of strength.

However, the Uchiha Clan still had its own shortcomings, which was the excessive pursuit of their own bloodline, leading most Uchiha to have a rather unstable foundation.

After all, the Sharingan was too omnipotent; once the Bloodline Limit was awakened, one could easily copy various taijutsu and ninjutsu, and it provided a high bonus to Genjutsu. It could be said that as long as they possessed the Sharingan, any Uchiha could become a comprehensive ninja without blind spots in a short time.

With such convenient abilities, those Uchiha naturally were unwilling to painstakingly polish their taijutsu or study ninjutsu, instead pursuing the development of their bloodline even more.

But looking at the Uchiha Feiyu before him, from the calluses on his hands and his steady footsteps to his thick build, one could see that he had already polished his physical body to a certain degree, which could be called a rarity among the Uchiha.

Such an Uchiha might seem like an outlier, but his actual achievements would be far greater than those guys who blindly pursued the Sharingan.

Without reaching the level of the Mangekyo, the Sharingan was, in the end, an auxiliary Bloodline Limit; people with the Sharingan could easily reach the pinnacle of technique, and at that point, what determined their final height was their own foundation.

"Oh, Senior, please don't praise me; Kakashi is five years younger than me, and I still can't beat him. If I'm not considered mediocre like this, then I can only be called a loser!"

Uchiha Feiyu chuckled, his self-deprecating words causing Hatake Sakumo to smile in surprise:

"Alright, I have heard some things about you from Kakashi; it seems you do have some ideas of your own."

"However, your mindset is truly different from the average ninja, let alone those Uchiha. Come to think of it, this calm mindset of yours is even more suited for the profession of a ninja!"

Uchiha Feiyu was slightly stunned; he hadn't expected Hatake Sakumo to say such things. This White Fang of the Leaf was quite clear-headed when looking at others, but when it came to himself, he wasn't as relaxed as his words suggested.

However, Uchiha Feiyu was still thinking about the Soul of the White Fang of the Leaf, so he naturally wouldn't be idle enough to go and counsel him; if the White Fang of the Leaf happened to think things through and didn't die, Uchiha Feiyu would suffer a huge loss.
