Chapter 1032 - 74: Stillborn

~6 min read 1,054 words

Jack and V had incredibly high battle efficiency, and Lille could observe from their prosthetics in first-person.

The former was a pioneer in strength enhancement, taking the front, while V could effortlessly take the lives of Hydra with swift, single-soldier actions—

As for Lille, he could take down a Space Airship by himself.

The training soldiers and Iron Riders of Night City split up to attack different Space Airships. While they were practicing boarding, Lille had almost cleared out one Space Airship on his own.

Jack’s strength, V’s quick agility, and firepower comparable to a heavy tank, he possessed them all. He could even oversee all the combatants during battle, providing them with tactical advice if necessary...

The battle situation wasn’t entirely one-sided. Apart from V, Jack, and himself, the other groups’ progress was steady but not without danger.

Bam—

Someone fired a shot in the dark, the movements swift and silent, Lille didn’t even look back. His Octopus Arm pierced behind the cover, grabbed a corpse, and flung it away.

Retracting the Octopus Arm, Lille stared at the black-green blood on it, perplexed.

All the soldiers he killed were gutted, not to satisfy some nonexistent killing fetish, but to understand the equipment Rocksen and Hydra were using now. Though the mission was labeled as training, it was a real war. If someone died, the blow was real and could lead to a complete collapse.

What he saw wasn’t good:

Their blood emitted a distinct gamma radiation. Just as Lille designed the third generation prosthetics based on Lizard muscle cells, these Hydra implants were designed based on biotechnology...

Cells and blood emitting gamma radiation. If their combat suits were opened, underneath, there were many irregular prosthetics that seemed like substitute structures for deformities or disabilities.

Energy-wise, these people didn’t need extra batteries or fuel chambers. Their blood and cells, in some sense, were even more formidable than Lizard cells...

But unstable, Lille could see their mental and physical states were shattered.

Technically, their prosthetics could be considered partially fused with cables—

Even Lille’s third generation prosthetics, the cables for powering and transmitting prosthetic force were separate from the physical body. In the entire system, the highest integration was in the Brain-Computer Interface and neural implants. Everything else was distinctly separate and organized.

Rocksen’s technology seemed as if they invented a material that could directly utilize gamma radiation, and based on this material, built a prosthetic system. Naturally, it would be best to stick as close to the radiation source as possible if the power derived from gamma radiation.

Hence, the tissues and organs of these soldiers were intricately mixed with artificial materials...

By analogy, Lille’s design was like two sets of cooperative and orderly systems, cyphered through a Brain-Computer Interface. Replacements and repairs were convenient and standardized because most components were modular;

However, on Hydra, the two systems were fused in a boundary-crossing manner. If replacements and repairs were needed, any prosthetist would face the challenge where detaching artificial parts might also rip off a chunk of flesh...

"Disgusting design..."

Bam—

At this moment, there was a loud bang from the Space Airship’s core laboratory.

Lille looked up to see the thick alloy door of the lab being hammered into a huge bulge, the whole metal deformed and twisted.

A bad omen emerged in his mind...

Gamma rays, twisted physical bodies, blood and flesh-covered prosthetic technology...

It is well known that the Super Soldier program is a significant and common theme in the Marvel World. Since Captain Carter exists in this world, the program would inevitably be carried forward to modern times.

And the product of the Super Soldier program associated with gamma rays had created a raging green-skinned monster.

Hulk—

Bam!

The alloy door was violently kicked open, the immense force embedding the deformed metal into the opposite wall!

Damaged pipes spewed steam, flames and electrical sparks illuminated the dim passage...

"Ho...kill..."

What emerged from the passage was not a green-skinned monster.

Or rather, in Lille’s view, the insignificant green was far from encompassing the monster’s features!

Its body was deformed, flesh flowed slowly like lava, an eerie fluorescence adhered to the surface, and sharp bones pierced through the skin, leaving a trail on the metal wall...

Its body nearly morphed into a knotted muscle structure, seemingly humanoid at a glance, but a closer look revealed it was entirely a monster!

This was definitely not Hulk, but it surely wasn’t anything normal!

Bam!

The enemy launched an attack, massive force creating huge dents in the metal floor!

In the world captured by high-speed cameras, Lille could see the massive enemy charging at him like a cannonball, an arm swung like a punch, but the forearm seemed unsupported, hanging limp. Instead, the upper arm’s bone, like a sword, pierced the skin, aiming directly at Lille!

Lille sidestepped, barely slipping past the enemy’s rush path, raising his left elbow to smash into the opponent’s face. His right hand’s King’s Blade erupted with immense heat, the long blade slicing through the enemy’s shoulder. Yet, the King’s Blade that severed bones got stuck in the flesh!

The enemy’s momentum was halted, feet stomping on the ground attempting to power up again, but Lille was quicker!

His left hand began transforming, a large hand cannon firmly placed against the enemy’s head...

Bam!

Flesh and blood splattered, the shell left a dark hole in the wall.

This thing had tremendous power, the strength of its bones and flesh surpassing what the human species should have. If it hit him directly, who knows what would happen.

But it was definitely not Hulk.

Flinging away the corpse, Lille walked towards the mysterious laboratory, from which a faint voice emerged:

"Is anyone... there? Who won?"

The voice was intermittent, yet the airflow through the throat was undeniably powerful, as if the lungs and throat were very strong, but the brain couldn’t support complete, accurate speech.

Steam erupted from Lille, expelling all the heat generated during the battle, stepping over the enemy’s body into the lab.

A...green giant lay here, more humanoid than the earlier soldiers, but slightly smaller...

Yet his skin, like the soldiers before, emitted a glowing "flow".

Lille raised his hand cannon: "Who are you?"

"I am... Bruce Banner."

A dying Hulk...

Or should it be said, a Hulk stillborn?
