Chapter 641 - 612 Double Body Nerve Surgery
[Unstable Energy Outburst.]
[Munemasa: This researcher named Tumus thinks quickly, his ability to reverse-engineer, learn, and re-invent is astonishing. He’s an AI, isn’t he? Stop pretending, if there were an engineer of this caliber, he wouldn’t be so unknown.]
[Munemasa: It’s like that engineer named Anders Herman; he merely helped Arasaka integrate a backup of Soul Killer extracted from the old net, and he became red-hot in the company’s internal network.]
[Lille: Now do you see how formidable we humans are?]
[Munemasa: Really? I don’t believe it.]
Munemasa’s CPU and database seemed incapable of supporting the elimination of the suspicion that Tumus was an AI.
It appeared that the top craftsmen of both worlds were showcasing their impressive skills through collaboration, earning each other’s admiration, but Munemasa was narrowly limited by its own cognition and models, insisting that Tumus was another AI secretly kept by Lille.
Being restricted, it couldn’t gather as much data as possible to recognize the fact, thus it became even more firmly entrenched in its erroneous beliefs...
This was in fact a method used by the net supervision to bait and train AIs, part of computational psychology.
Tumus also gave high praise to Munemasa, and expressed a wish for it to become human.
Both clearly harbored a sense of superiority towards the other’s kind... Lille in the middle found the scene rather amusing.
Regardless, the collaboration was quite pleasant, and Lille was satisfied with their efforts; although the electric propulsion system was a bit tricky, at least they managed to get the chemical vector thruster done.
Conveniently, they also knew how to build vehicles, so this gadget could be sent directly to the Mackinaw Mammoth production line and start producing Mackinaw-brand Floating Cars, equipped with machine guns or Electromagnetic Guns to dominate helicopters in the skies...
Most importantly, on the grand stage of Dog Town, they finally didn’t have to drive around in vans anymore.
Lille blinked his eyes, moving from the office in New York to the unfinished building in Dog Town, and everything around him changed from monitoring various high-tech screens to bustling Animal Gang strongmen who needed to lift weights even to walk.
Bang!
The Wild Man King placed the equipment moved from Luxor Manor into the center—this was the nano surgery table for customizing Lille’s neural Implants.
Wiping sweat from her brow and taking a deep breath, she grabbed a sports drink from beside her and downed it in one go: "Seriously, why isn’t he working? He’s stronger than all of us put together!"
She was referring to Jack, who was on the phone next to them.
Burger King had now moved underground, and the OCT domain had also begun to return to normal. Lille could allocate a little bandwidth for Jack to make a covert call back to his mom.
Even though he was the big brother, he still scratched his head and looked awkward while talking to Mrs. Wales.
Lille shrugged his shoulders, "You wouldn’t carry things yourself when you have underlings, would you? You’d send them out to fight, right?"
"But I’m a bodyguard, not a fucking mover!"
"Well, when you can beat him, then you can talk."
The Wild Man King shook her head and picked up the thick cables on the ground to take them to the power room.
Meanwhile, V walked in from the door, "Our logistics team has arrived in Taiping State. They say the progress is smooth, and NCPD have raised their flags.
The place is really poor though, I feel like they don’t have much confidence in it. If it were anyone else asking them to come, they might just throw in the towel and quit."
"Most people in this world wait for a place to show signs of wealth before joining in, and once they’ve joined, they complain about the solidification of the classes not giving them a chance... There are many such people, but their thoughts are not important. What is important is that they obey."
The motor of Lille’s wheelchair buzzed, driving him toward the surgical equipment. The circuits in his view began to glow, indicating that the Wild Man King had connected the cables to the generator per his request, and he was now plugged into the equipment.
Working, he said, "Let them set up the base outside of Dog Town. The new NCPD base can be built slowly. Just having an imposing name is enough for now, since this place can’t support public services anyway.
I’ll talk to them after my surgery is finished; tell them to wait for now."
"You?" V was somewhat surprised, "You’re getting more prosthetics implanted?"
"I have to replace all the organic parts of my body, including my peripheral nervous system, so I’m only starting the implant now; it’s better for hanging onto life."
Lille hadn’t shared the state of his body with V, and he almost never would. On one hand, even if he did, she wouldn’t understand; on the other hand, there was no need to tell her.
Just as he thought, V gave a ’tsk’ and didn’t ask any more questions.
What surprised him, though, was when V’s big hand suddenly grabbed and squeezed the muscles near his shoulder as he was about to enter the equipment for pre-surgery examination, squeezing him so hard he yelped:
"Damn it—Sis, what the hell are you doing?!"
Lille cried out in pain, looked up, and saw V looking at him with a smug expression: "Little Li Zi, don’t die. You still haven’t paid off your debts!"
"You... I... Ugh, piss off, will you? Keep an eye on Luxor Manor for me. This surgery’s a bit complex and will take some time."
"Got it."
...
The surgery Lille was about to undergo was complex because it involved nerve replacement implants.
Brain nerves are unstable; removing and replacing them can naturally affect the precision with which he could control the surgical instruments. Even for him, it wasn’t possible to perform a nerve implant surgery on himself—
Such an implant couldn’t be self-administered.
Luckily, he had two selves.
His plan was this: use a cross-dimensional data channel to control another body in a different world to serve as the control center. This body would handle the surgery equipment, performing the operation on himself here, while also using this world’s brain to control another world’s surgical instruments and simultaneously complete the adjustments and replacements of the peripheral nerves outside of his limbs.
These implants weren’t the ones that came pre-packaged and ready-to-insert. You just had to place the prosthetic in position, run the program, and the nano robots would automatically take care of the rest.
This was a custom surgery, a large-scale operation aimed at customizing adjustments for as many parts of the nervous system as possible.
His brain, his biological instincts would undergo massive changes with these replacements...
In theory, at least.
V found a spot to sit down on the worn out sofa outside the door, grabbing a beverage in hand and turning on the TV—
At this moment, Jack also came over, grabbed another drink, and plopped down onto a concrete stump:
"Where’s Lille?"
"Implant surgery. He said he wants to replace as much of his organic parts as possible."
"A full-body prosthetic?"
"Probably not. I didn’t see any shiny full-body prosthetics among the supplies. He said he’s mainly focusing on replacing his nervous system."
"Major nerve replacement?" Jack whistled softly, "That’s pretty risky. I used to only see ads for nerve implants on TV, and back then I thought having one or two installed was pretty badass, but now..."
"Now it’s just how it is." V scratched her head, "I feel like even if he got a full set of prosthetics from the market and turned himself into... into Adam Hammer, it would all be the same.
If there’s anyone in this world who could turn into some freaky powerhouse and still look like a total wimp, it’d probably just be him."
Jack paused with his drink in hand, snickered, and said: "Lille’s anything but weak, remember the Biotechnology Building incident?
You’re right, if anyone could go through such transformations without a hitch, it’d be him."
V fiddled with the remote control, flipping the channel to sports: "What about you? How’s your mother, and Misty? Are they all right?"
"Same as always! I can’t wait to get back and have a romantic confession with Misty. Where do you think I should set the scene? The Ashes, or..."
