Chapter 67: As a Father, Is It Wrong for Me to Discipline My Son?
"Oh my god, what are you doing!"
Qiao Yingzi stamped her feet in frustration.
She never expected He Chen would call the police again without any warning.
This is completely different from last time.
Last time, Fang Yifan deliberately provoked He Chen by bringing in the turtle, and it was Fang Yuan, Fang’s uncle, who got taken away; although she thought it was a bit excessive, she could understand it.
But this time, Fang Yifan didn’t even provoke him first... well, admittedly, his earlier boasting had a hint of provocation, but back then He Chen hadn’t reacted at all.
Now he’s seizing the chance to blow up and calling the police again in such a dramatic way.
She felt this was going too far.
This time, the target is Fang Yifan himself.
If things go wrong, it could ruin Fang Yifan’s future.
"What the hell are you trying to do?!" Li Tiegun shouted angrily at He Chen: "What grudge do you hold? What vendetta? Do you really have to ruin your classmates’ lives over every little thing? Are you psychologically twisted?!"
The commotion here also drew the attention of Fang Yifan and his mother, who were normally chasing each other around.
Tong Wenjie rushed over, and upon hearing what had happened, she immediately lunged at He Chen with wild, clawing motions.
"You little brat, you want to destroy my son? I’ll fight you to the death!"
Li Tiegun quickly stepped in to block her, urging: "Don’t hit him, or even if you’re right, you’ll lose all credibility!"
"No way! I’m going to fight him today!" Tong Wenjie struggled to break free, her face twisted with rage: "This is our family matter—what right does he have to interfere?!"
"You’re absolutely right!" He Chen smiled. "Precisely because it’s a family matter, I’m stepping in to take charge!"
"If a child is poorly raised, it’s the father’s fault!"
"As the filial son Fang Yifan’s father, what’s wrong with me disciplining my own son?"
"What?!" Li Tiegun and Tong Wenjie both froze, confused by He Chen’s words, then turned sharply to Fang Yifan, whose face had flushed red—they knew there had to be more to this story.
Qiao Yingzi felt deeply embarrassed for Fang Yifan.
Well then!
In this sense, He Chen’s intervention wasn’t entirely groundless or an unwarranted overreach...
But everyone knew that was just a drunken bet—“lose and call me dad”—and Fang Yifan never actually said it, nor could he legitimately claim to be Fang Yifan’s father just because of it.
And he said it right in front of Fang Yifan’s mother... it was so awkward!
"Fang! Yi! Fan!" As a mother who knows her child best, Tong Wenjie instantly guessed the truth from her son’s expression. Facing such an embarrassingly filial son, she gritted her teeth.
In another setting, if she’d found out about this, she might have laughed and scolded him lightly, and perhaps even privately imagined how sweet it was, secretly thinking her son was truly filial.
But right now, facing He Chen’s report to the police, she thought of Fang Yifan’s biological father who had just been sent to jail by He Chen and was now about to be sent back—despite the fact that her own son had personally procured clients for He Chen, and despite He Chen being young and strikingly handsome, she had no interest in entertaining any ambiguity or considering whether to go along with it.
In front of Teacher Li, Qiao Yingzi, and her beloved nephew, she felt her entire dignity had been shattered by her son.
Their usual chase-and-fight routine erupted again.
But it didn’t last long.
Because the police arrived quickly.
After all, this involved potential criminal activity involving a minor.
When everyone gathered in the teacher’s office, their glances at each other were strangely uneasy.
He Chen smiled and revealed the truth: "That’s right! Officers, I’m the one who called again! This time, it’s again Fang Yifan, this ungrateful brat, causing trouble!"
That’s right!
The officers who arrived this time were the same team that had responded to the call a month ago and taken Fang Yifan’s father away.
After all, they all patrolled the same neighborhood.
Running into each other again was perfectly normal.
"... " He Chen thought it was normal, but the two officers were utterly baffled, their expressions strange as they began asking for details.
"He’s lying! Officers, this isn’t drugging! Fang Yifan, as the older cousin, just wanted to help his insomnia-stricken cousin sleep better—it’s all a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding!" Tong Wenjie hurried to explain, shooting He Chen a murderous glare.
Drugging a minor is no joke.
If this were proven true, her son’s future would be completely ruined.
It was far more serious than last time, when her husband bought a protected national species—the golden turtle.
"Lies!" He Chen retorted. "Lin Leier had no idea about this. If I hadn’t exposed it, Fang Yifan would’ve kept lying, claiming Leier had insomnia—when in fact, Leier went to bed at eleven, while Fang Yifan claimed he didn’t sleep until one a.m. Clearly, he had some sinister motive!"
He Chen had sharp hearing and sight; even from a distance, every word spoken by Fang Yifan and Lin Leier reached his ears clearly.
"Lies! What motive could there be? They’re close cousins who love each other—how could he possibly harm his own cousin?!" Tong Wenjie pleaded desperately. "Leier, tell the officers!"
"Uh-huh!" Lin Leier, still a bit confused, nodded along with his aunt’s words: "My cousin is so nice to me—he’d never hurt me!"
The two officers nodded, turning to He Chen.
Just like last time, they really didn’t want to get involved in this mess—but He Chen had called the police a second time, clearly someone who took things seriously.
And from last time, they’d seen that although He Chen was obsessive, he wasn’t making things up—he was reasonable, even if his actions seemed extreme and emotionally excessive.
They dared not hastily judge the situation, fearing they’d again be accused by the stubborn He Chen of trying to cover things up.
"What motive could there be?" He Chen said coolly. "Hard to say—jealousy, psychological disorders, whatever. But his real goal this time? Almost certainly to pick up a girl!"
"Pick up a girl?" Everyone paused thoughtfully.
Qiao Yingzi instantly understood and shot Fang Yifan a furious glare.
Fang Yifan clearly wanted to get closer to Tao Zi, but was too afraid to ask Aunt Tong directly, so he drugged Leier—the person his mother cared about most—to make him sleepy, hoping she’d feel sorry and move them into the same neighborhood. That made sense.
She could understand that.
But she couldn’t accept Fang Yifan lying to her, then pulling off this mess, dragging her into conflict with He Chen.
"He’s chasing Huang Zhitao—and probably Qiao Yingzi too," He Chen continued, seeing they all understood but no one spoke up. "He wants to live in the same neighborhood as them, but fears their mothers won’t approve, so he drugs Leier—the one his mother loves and values most—making him drowsy so she’ll feel sorry and move voluntarily. And it’s already worked!"
"That’s not true!" Fang Yifan panicked and quickly defended himself: "I admit I wanted to move to Shuxiang Yayuan, but originally I planned to take the sleeping pill myself—I even prepared juice to drink. But then Leier came in to help me with homework, and when I turned around, he drank the juice! Ask Leier!"
"Yes!" Lin Leier thought back and nodded in agreement.
Tong Wenjie and Li Tiegun both let out a long breath of relief.
If that was the case, the nature of the incident changed completely—the problem was no longer serious.
If that’s the case, the nature of the situation changes immediately, and the problem is no longer significant.
