Chapter 100: The Wordless Immortal Book
Several people sat down to rest.
“Where exactly are you looking for this so-called immortal affinity?” Li Lin asked.
Bai Bifan and Zhao Xiaohu both looked at him with confusion.
Ding Yingqiu glanced at the two, then said: “South of Beiliu County, there is a cave called Goulu Cave… a certain Immortal Master Ge once stayed there.”
“You’re going just for that?”
Li Lin was puzzled—he didn’t even know what might be inside.
Ding Yingqiu, however, was excited: “You know what cultivators are like—you should understand that immortals radiate sacred brilliance. Even if they left behind a scrap of cloth, it might be a magical artifact or a treasure.”
“Perhaps.” Li Lin nodded.
Seeing Li Lin agree, Ding Yingqiu glanced at the sky and said: “Let’s hurry. The later it gets, the worse it’ll be.”
The group immediately moved out, with Ding Yingqiu leading the way.
Three hours later, the sun had begun to slant westward.
Bai Zhiwei looked around and said: “Everything here is black and gray stone mountains—looks all the same. How do you know the way, Ding Xunshou?”
Ding Yingqiu smiled: “I’ve carved the terrain map into my mind.”
Then she pointed to a tall, solitary peak ahead: “Halfway up that mountain.”
The group hurried over and quickly reached the mid-slope using Light Body Technique.
Bai Bifan and Zhao Xiaohu, however, climbed up using hands and feet, moving much slower.
There was no help for it—neither was skilled in Light Body Technique.
Only after they arrived did the four of them proceed together to the cave entrance.
As they drew near, they felt a gentle breeze flowing out from within the cave.
Not a cold, icy wind—but a warm one.
Ding Yingqiu pulled out a fire starter from her sleeve and lit it, walking ahead: “I brought you here—I’ll go first.”
Everyone nodded and followed behind.
With the fire starter, the cave passage no longer seemed dark.
And beneath their feet were stone steps… artificially carved.
The cave wasn’t deep; soon, they reached the very end.
Ding Yingqiu extinguished the fire starter.
Compared to the passage, this place was bright.
A slanted beam of sunlight pierced down through a crack above, striking a clear pool.
The pool acted as a mirror, scattering the sunlight throughout the entire cave.
It was warm inside—and… there was a peculiar aura.
Behind the clear pool stood a stone table, stone stools, a stone bed, and a bookshelf.
On the farther wall, deep carvings bore several mysterious large characters—none of which Li Lin recognized.
That strange sensation emanated from those characters.
“Search for anything unusual—or look for traps,” Ding Yingqiu called out cheerfully: “Whatever we find, we all share.”
Everyone began searching.
They scoured every corner.
The cave was fairly large, but six people searching made quick work of it—yet they found nothing.
The group gathered together and shook their heads.
Ding Yingqiu looked disappointed: “Has someone already been here before?”
It wasn’t surprising—she could find this place, so could others.
Bai Zhiwei chuckled: “No matter. Keep looking. If immortal affinity were this easy, it wouldn’t be called immortal affinity.”
The group scattered again.
Li Lin walked to the pool’s edge, stared for a while, and noticed three faint characters on the bottom—similar to the three carved on the wall.
What was the connection?
Li Lin alternated his gaze between the pool’s bottom and the wall.
He stared for a long time without seeing any pattern—just as he was about to give up, a hint suddenly appeared.
【Array +1】
Huh?
Li Lin’s spirits lifted—he kept staring at both spots.
Soon after, proficiency prompts began appearing.
After a while, Li Lin gradually understood the array’s function.
“So that’s how it works,” he murmured.
At that moment, the others gathered around, watching him with curiosity.
“It’s an array,” Li Lin pointed to the pool’s bottom, then to the wall: “It will activate at Zi Shi.”
Everyone stared at him in astonishment.
Ding Yingqiu asked curiously: “Have you been here before, Li Xunshou?”
Li Lin shook his head: “I just read some miscellaneous books on this topic at home.”
He could only say that.
Miscellaneous books!
Everyone felt a pang of helplessness.
What kind of miscellaneous books recorded such ancient and obscure knowledge?
Bai Liwei said: “Then let’s wait here until Zi Shi.”
Everyone nodded.
Ding Yingqiu pulled a vial from her clothing and sprinkled a circle of Defense Powder around them.
It was a “specialty” of the Ding family—she naturally carried it with her.
The group sat within the circle to rest, eating dried rations.
They chatted idly.
Time passed slowly.
Another three hours passed; Zi Shi was nearly here.
Zhao Xiaohu was already half-asleep.
The slanted sunlight had become moonlight.
Though the cave’s illumination was dimmer than daytime, the moonlight reflected and diffused by the pool allowed just enough visibility.
And it carried a cool, crisp feeling.
Everyone stood, waiting in silence.
Soon, a faint glow emerged from the pool’s bottom, and the three large characters on the wall seemed to draw in the moonlight, glowing brighter.
“Is this the array?” Zhao Xiaohu stared in amazement at the three characters.
The others looked equally astonished.
But after waiting, they saw only the three characters glow—nothing else happened.
They turned their gazes to Li Lin.
Li Lin stepped outside the Defense Powder circle.
Ding Yingqiu couldn’t help crying out: “Be careful—the Wicked Spirits might see you…”
But then everyone noticed Li Lin’s white jade tablet did not glow.
“There are no Wicked Spirits here,” Su Huafang exclaimed.
Ding Yingqiu was also surprised, then said with matter-of-fact certainty: “This is an immortal’s cave—how would Wicked Spirits dare intrude?”
The others followed Li Lin out of the Defense Powder circle.
Li Lin walked to the wall and pressed his hand against it.
Instantly, moonlight rippled across the surface, revealing a grid of vertical and horizontal lines—some squares held dots, others small circles.
Li Lin infused Yin Qi; a red light raced along the lines, quickly connecting over a dozen squares.
The others watched, amazed.
When Li Lin removed his hand, the entire wall became transparent.
Behind it lay a larger chamber.
“Go in.”
Li Lin smiled and stepped through first.
“Impressive,” Bai Zhiwei sighed.
Su Huafang nodded.
The others followed, passing through the now-transparent wall.
Inside, they saw stacks of bamboo slips, and on the surrounding shelves, many books.
Everyone rushed forward, flipping through books and bamboo slips.
But their expressions froze.
Whether books or bamboo slips—all were blank.
Not a single word!
