Chapter 313: Sold?

~7 min read 1,288 words

Two days later, Yun Li stared coldly at Chang Shan, confronting him.

One sat, the other stood, and neither spoke first.

It wasn't until Li Sheng and Li Cheng, who had fallen into Chang Shan's hands, woke up one after the other that the cold‑faced Yun Li finally showed a change.

"Yun Li"

Li Sheng was still a bit confused about the current situation; she clearly remembered that she and her brother were supposed to go to the stone vat in the courtyard to draw water, but just as the water was ready, Chang Shan walked in.

Recalling how she had happily rushed toward Chang Shan at that moment, only to lose consciousness the next instant, Li Sheng's complexion turned rather pallid.

So, was Chang Shan trying to use her and her brother to threaten Yun Li into doing something for him?

"Sister"

At that moment Li Cheng suddenly reached out and grasped Li Sheng's hand, the two younglings' gazes flashing together in the air.

Li Sheng squeezed back forcefully, as if that could tell her brother that they couldn't just sit and wait for death.

But what could two untrained younglings possibly do?

Before Li Sheng could devise an escape, Chang Shan gave a casual glance over; though the two younglings were awake, he paid them no mind, having only knocked them out to prevent their noisy chatter from becoming a nuisance.

Moreover, he had no intention of angering a poison doctor, especially one whose life was near its end.

"I know you poisoned me," Chang Shan finally spoke first between the two, "but are you sure you won't kill us all before the poison takes effect?"

Yun Li remained silent; indeed, that was her concern.

Although she had, just in case, slipped poison into Chang Shan when he wasn't watching, his caution meant she administered only a small amount; thus she now used a drug lure on him, and with Chang Shan's strength as a Blue Rank Beastman, once the poison takes effect he still wouldn't be completely defenseless.

And she wasn't confident she could land a fatal blow when his poison manifested; the two younglings could offer her no help at all.

"Why?"

Yun Li knew the question was useless, perhaps still unwilling to accept it, so even in death she wanted a clear end.

"Why?"

Chang Shan's expression didn't change upon hearing that, but inside his mind a wave had already risen; he had once wanted to ask why, only for his brother to say nothing and shove him into a abyss, then disappear with their female and younglings to a place Yun Li couldn't know.

Yun Li asked him why; there weren't that many whys—it's simply that he was unlucky, and so was she.

The male not only gave no explanation, but before leaving he dropped two harsh words threatening Yun Li.

"Tomorrow morning, I expect you to still be here; don't entertain thoughts of escape. If you delay my plans, I'll hand you over to a pair of old, ugly males, and they'll sell you."

Yun Li listened, and frost instantly covered her face.

But does he mean he'll stay if she doesn't run? Yun Li could never pin her hope for survival on someone else's pity.

So, in the dead of night, a wolf and two little flower leopards seized the darkness and sprinted toward the Spirit Tribe's gate.

But before reaching the gate, a cold voice came from behind.

"You really intend to run; aren't you afraid I'll kill those two younglings outright and then sell you as a Beast Slave?"

Yun Li hadn't reverted to human form; upon hearing that, she let out a low growl toward the two younglings struggling to shield her.

"What are you still hesitating for? Run!"

But the younglings, for reasons unknown, were trembling with fear yet stubbornly remained in place, refusing to move.

Thus, younglings are truly the most troublesome creatures; even when a way out exists, they don't know how to take it.

The Snow Wolf didn't hesitate; with a powerful thrust of its hind leg, it leapt over the two little flower leopards and charged at the increasingly close Chang Shan.

"Awo!"

Seeing Yun Li get knocked airborne in an instant, the two little flower leopards became frantic and rushed forward in a flurry.

Chang Shan's expression grew ever colder…

…

"Yo, someone's brought me a person."

Early in the morning, the lead Beastman opened the gate and was startled by the Beastman standing outside, but he reacted quickly; seeing that the people had been delivered, he smiled and ushered them inside.

Watching Chang Shan throw the Snow Wolf and the two little flower leopards onto the ground without mercy, the lead Beastman laughed, "So it's still a female wolf? This is a white wolf, right? And those two little ones are her younglings?"

"No," Chang Shan said coldly, "where is the information I want?"

"What grudge do you and your brother hold? You've been hunting for over twenty years and still refuse to stop?"

Fortunately, cultivated Beastmen have long lifespans; otherwise, an ordinary Beastman would have spent over half his life in those twenty‑plus years.

After all, ordinary Beastmen face a high mortality rate in hunts; many only live forty or fifty years, and numerous ones die in the hunt soon after reaching adulthood.

The lead Beastman's remark received no reply from Chang Shan; once the information was obtained, he left the courtyard without hesitation.

When Yun Li awoke from the stupor, her first reaction was to check her body and stay alert to the unfamiliar surroundings.

But before she could get out of bed and figure out her situation, a surprised voice came from the doorway.

"Yun Li! You're awake!"

Li Sheng, holding a bowl of medicine with a delighted expression, looked at the awakened Yun Li; before her stood a slender, long‑faced, seemingly shrewd and capable male Beastman.

Seeing Yun Li finally awake, his previously tense face broke into a smile, "Awake, awake—good. You were out for several days; you really gave me a startle."

Isn't that right? It's hard enough to get a female that meets the lord's criteria and pair her with the others; if she disappears like this, where will he find another?

A beautiful, single female is hard to find, especially one who is a Witch Doctor; she absolutely must not die.

Yun Li took the medicine Li Sheng handed her, sniffed it; although it was just ordinary herbs, the Witch Doctor who prepared it clearly misjudged her condition, so the medicine was of little use to her.

So she set the medicine aside, looked at the male Beastman, and asked, "Where is this? How did I end up in your home?"

"Hehe! My name is Chang,"

the male Beastman beamed as he introduced himself, "I am the lead Beastman in the Spirit Tribe, responsible for buying and selling Beast Slaves within a few hundred kilometers. As you can see, this is one of my residences in the Spirit Tribe; Chang Shan delivered you and the two younglings to me."

Hearing that, Yun Li's heart sank instantly; although she had long guessed that Chang Shan sold her to the Beastman before her, the reality of being sold still left her unable to accept the situation.

She thought, perhaps she should find a way to kill this male, then escape the Spirit Tribe with the two younglings.

Just as that dangerous thought surfaced, Chang seemed to notice the hostility in her eyes and quickly added another sentence.

Rest assured, I have no intention of making you and the two cubs Beast Slaves; it's just that there's something I hope you can cooperate with us on.
