Chapter 75: Ji Xuan's Oddness
Mu Qing and Leng Xiu, who had been discussing matters after eating, heard Yun Li's voice and quickly came over.
Both were tasting sugar for the first time, and the emotions on their faces were plain to see.
Mu Qing appeared endlessly surprised. "This sugar… if it were outside the Heiyan Shanmai, many females and cubs would love it."
After all, there were quite a few beastmen outside who craved sweets—like bear beastmen, bee beastmen, rabbit beastmen, and so on. Though these beastmen ate a varied diet, they were especially fond of sweet things.
Leng Xiu, meanwhile, was shocked to his core. Hearing Mu Qing's words, he immediately thought of something. "The Silver Eagle Tribe has always been trying to find ways to trade with outside tribes.
If what you say is true, we could use the sugar-making technique to negotiate with them."
"But we're currently on their turf," Mu Qing had to remind him. "What if we take the sugar-making technique out, and
they only verbally promise us not to trade with the Youbuluo, but secretly take a few females out to exchange instead? By then we can't possibly watch over those beastmen every day."
"Then what about negotiating directly with the Youbuluo?"
Yun Li, seeing that her efforts had hope, hurriedly stepped forward with a suggestion. "We can talk to Young Master Ji first and see how much appeal the sugar-making technique holds for the Silver Eagle Tribe.
If this sugar-making technique alone isn't enough to make them abandon the idea of exchanging females for their tribe's beastmen,
then what about salt-making? Salt ore can produce salt, but couldn't plants and salty soil that taste the same as salt ore also be used to make salt?
Salt outside probably isn't that easy to obtain, right? If the Silver Eagle Tribe had surplus salt, plus this sugar,
they could trade with outside tribes for more useful things. When the Youbuluo sees that, wouldn't they want it too?"
"A Li, you know how to make salt too?"
Leng Xiao asked with a look of astonishment.
"Yes."
Yun Li said helplessly, "Did you forget back when we were at the Pingshan Tribe, I told you that the coarse salt at home was made by Mu Qing and me from salt ore?"
Though afterward, once they moved in, they'd been constantly busy with hunting for the Tribe, so forgetting seemed normal enough.
"I think I remember now. I just hadn't expected that you'd know so many things, A Li."
Leng Xiao rubbed his chin, thinking to himself that A Li must be an incarnation of the legendary Beast God—otherwise how could she know so many things?
"A Li, I somewhat suspect you're an incarnation of the legendary Beast God…"
One who came in the Beast God's place to save the beastmen.
Before that last, even more chuunibyou line could be finished, Yun Li interrupted him with a face full of dark lines. "You might as well say I was enlightened by the Beast God. Incarnation? Why would an incarnation of the Beast God need to form a Mate Bond with a male?"
Was there ever such a useless incarnation of the Beast God—one who couldn't fight and had to rack her brains just to come up with an idea?
If her transmigration had come with a spatial artifact or a spiritual spring that could improve her constitution, or any useful cheat like that, she'd dare accept what Leng Xiao said.
But the problem was she didn't have a single one. Yun Li felt it was better to shatter Leng Xiao's unrealistic fantasy, lest it spread and she heard people call her some legendary incarnation of the Beast God—wouldn't she die of embarrassment?
Leng Xiao was momentarily choked by her words, but after recovering, he realized he didn't understand what A Li meant by "enlightened."
Just as he was about to ask A Li what she meant by "enlightened," Leng Xiu cut in:
"If what A Li says is all true, then we can indeed have a proper talk with Ji Xuan.
Only, before going to Ji Xuan, we still need to verify whether what you said is actually true."
Salt ore being able to produce salt held little appeal for the Silver Eagle Tribe—after all, salt ore was much easier to carry than loose salt, and there was no need to worry about it spilling and being hard to gather back up.
Yun Li nodded. "The place A Mei took us to hunt black goats earlier had that kind of salty soil. A Qing, now that you've broken through to Blue Rank, you can go fetch some back."
Mu Qing acknowledged with a sound. "Alright, I'll go in a bit."
Leng Xiao quickly said, "Together. A Li's been eating a lot these past few days, so the two of us can go out together and bring back more prey."
Yun Li, who'd been called out for eating a lot, blushed slightly. The reason she'd been eating more these past few days was all because of them.
"I want to go out too."
Yun Li said in a low voice. "I still haven't practiced my archery enough."
Though the Silver Eagle Tribe had an open ground specifically for beastmen to train, that was all bare-handed sparring. Very few fought with weapons, let alone clearing a space for Yun Li to practice archery.
So she always went outside the Tribe, targeting small prey nearby to practice her bow and arrows.
"Then let's get ready, the three of us will go out together…"
Before Leng Xiao could say the last word "out," Leng Xiu informed him mercilessly, "Today it's your turn to stay home and watch the cubs."
Mu Qing wasn't the cubs' biological father, so unless he volunteered to stay home and watch them, it was Leng Xiao and Leng Xiu who took turns watching the house.
The smile on Leng Xiao's face vanished in an instant. He stared at his brother and said in a faint tone, "Brother, the cubs have been born for over half a month now, and I've been the one looking after them this whole time."
So what if he watched them a few more days now.
Leng Xiu looked at him with an impassive expression. "But who was it that teamed up with Mu Qing yesterday to bully A Li? Don't tell me you want to do that again today."
Hearing this, Yun Li's expression turned stern, and she reached out to pinch Leng Xiao's arm. "You stay home and watch the cubs."
She didn't want to recall yesterday's events at all.
After getting tired of practicing archery in the wilderness, she'd actually been seduced by Leng Xiao into doing it outdoors, and afterward with Mu Qing as well…
Leng Xiao: …His brother was ruthless!
He knew full well that A Li was thin-skinned, yet deliberately brought up that matter.
Ordered by his own female to stay home, Leng Xiao could only watch with a resentful face as Mu Qing and his brother escorted A Li out the door.
Once outside the Tribe, Yun Li shifted back into her beast form and quickly matched Mu Qing and Leng Xiu's pace.
After all, she was learning to grow stronger. Aside from archery, she also needed to keep up in terms of stamina.
"Whizz—"
A sound of something cutting through the air reached Ji Xuan's ears. He had been resting with his eyes closed in a tree, and couldn't help but open them.
Following the sound, he saw that it was Yun Li again, coming out to practice archery accompanied by her Beast Husband. For some reason, the scene that suddenly surfaced in his mind was from yesterday when he'd finished his patrol and returned to the Tribe, running into Yun Li and her two Beast Husbands at the Tribe entrance.
The female, shielded by two males, seemed to hear something and quickly cast a glance in his direction, then promptly lowered her eyes slightly.
The female was clearly still the same female—why was it that when she looked over then, there was something about her that was indescribable yet captivating?
Ji Xuan had previously felt he'd never been attracted to Yun Li, but why was that scene from yesterday so deeply etched in his mind?
Even now, when I think of it, it's still vivid in my mind.
"A Xiu, I hit it again!"
Mu Qing went alone to fetch the salty earth, so now Yun Li has only Leng Xiu by her side.
Seeing that she hit another prey again, Yun Li instantly, delighted, hugged Leng Xiu.
After several days of nonstop practice, her aim is already much better than at the beginning.
If she fires ten arrows, she now has at least five that can hit or wound the prey.
A fifty percent accuracy rate, yet before, by luck she hit many more.
