Chapter 30: The Little Blonde Narumiya Mei
Coach Kataoka was right; even if such practice wouldn't affect the state for tomorrow, if it continued for a long time, it would very likely lead to unconsciously falling into a vortex of pursuing control. By then, the body would subconsciously abandon other things for the sake of control, such as ball speed, spin rate...
But Yang Shunchen is different; Yang Shunchen's ball speed isn't that fast, and his greatest characteristic is his machine-like, precise control.
Realizing this point, Huangqian Yangyi gave a sharp bow, "Thank you, Coach!"
Seeing this, Kataoka nodded with satisfaction; being able to listen is only on the surface, but being able to understand is what matters most.
"Continue practicing."
"Yes."
After Coach Kataoka left, Miyuki let out a long breath, then said with lingering fear: "It's fortunate the coach came over, otherwise the two of us would have almost gone down the wrong path."
"It was me being too anxious, sorry."
Miyuki shook his head and said: "Come, throw two changeups to let me calm down."
"Heh, you better catch them."
That night, after training ended, the coordination between Huangqian Yangyi and Miyuki had passed the test of the First String seniors, throwing a total of 51 pitches, with 7 being hit.
Among them, Dong Qingguo caught a fastball and blasted an extra-base hit.
The rest were either grounders or foul balls.
Such pitching performance further confirmed Kataoka's intention to let Huangqian Yangyi and Miyuki Kazuya play tomorrow.
"Tomorrow is the semi-finals, playing against Ichidai Sanko; everyone here must bring out all of their strength," Coach Kataoka said.
"Yes!!"
"Now announcing the starting lineup for tomorrow's game."
Hearing this sentence, most people became nervous, especially the pitcher Nanjo Taishi and the catcher Tanaka Wataru.
Today, when Coach Kataoka had Miyuki and Huangqian Yangyi coordinate, they had already guessed something; although they were unwilling in their hearts, if it was for the team's victory, they could accept it.
However, when Coach Kataoka finished announcing the starting lineup, everyone discovered that tomorrow's starters were exactly the same as before.
Nanjo Taishi subconsciously looked at Huangqian Yangyi, worried whether the other would be discouraged by this, but ended up seeing Huangqian Yangyi smiling at him.
Worried for nothing; this little junior didn't look discouraged in the slightest.
"Huangqian!" Kataoka suddenly called out.
"Here, Boss!"
"You go on in the fifth inning tomorrow, be prepared."
"Yes!"
Coach Kataoka nodded, "Miyuki, same for you."
"Hai~"
Miyuki responded listlessly, feeling as if he were born to a stepmother.
April 18th, Meiji Jingu Second Baseball Stadium.
The Spring Tokyo Tournament semi-finals were about to be held here, and the four participating teams arrived at the stadium one after another.
Seido High School, Ichidai Sanko, Inashiro Industrial, Teito.
This year's Dudahui final four were monopolized by the 4 giants of Tokyo, which didn't make the audience feel surprised at all.
For so many years, the four high walls standing in Tokyo remained as indestructible as ever; the audience even felt a bit bored and dull, and many people were looking forward to when a spoiler might emerge.
"Yangyi, look over there," Miyuki said, his gaze falling on a team wearing white uniforms ahead.
"Inashiro Industrial; their game today is the second one, right? Coming so early," Huangqian Yangyi saw the people from Inashiro from afar.
"They must be here to scout information; whether it's us or Ichidai Sanko, one team will eventually advance to the finals," Miyuki said.
"Kazuya, why do I feel like you believe they can make it to the finals more than the people from Inashiro do?"
"Exactly, Miyuki, you wouldn't happen to be an undercover agent sent by Inashiro, would you?" Kuramochi Yoichi followed up with a joke.
Miyuki laughed, "It's not that I believe in Inashiro; there's a reason why I think so."
"Narumiya Mei?" Huangqian Yangyi looked at the short blonde kid in the Inashiro team, "He is very strong, that's true, but he should be a substitute for now, right?"
"Just like you," Miyuki said.
"No, I'm taller than him!"
Just then, the people from Inashiro also noticed Seido's arrival; the blonde Narumiya Mei scanned the Seido team, suddenly his eyes lit up and he shouted: "Kazuya, Kazuya!"
Miyuki hurriedly lowered his head, pretending not to know the other.
"Your old lover is calling you, why don't you go over," Huangqian Yangyi pushed Miyuki out.
Miyuki was instantly so embarrassed his toes curled, especially after feeling his own coach's gaze.
Coach Kataoka stopped his steps and turned to face everyone: "The game starts in 1 hour; everyone make final preparations, meet at the locker room in half an hour."
"Yes!!"
The team dispersed on the spot; suddenly those who needed to use the restroom did so, and those chatting chatted. The teams here had met countless times and were very familiar with each other.
"Kazuya, why are you ignoring me?" Narumiya Mei ran over to question Miyuki Kazuya.
"Ya~ I just didn't see you," Miyuki was thick-skinned and could lie casually.
Narumiya Mei didn't know if he really believed it, and continued to ask: "Hey, I heard you guys at Seido have a super amazing First Year pitcher, who is it?"
His big eyes were sparkling, like a little puppy.
"Oh, you mean Yangyi?"
"Yangyi? Is that a name?" Narumiya Mei was extremely sensitive to this.
Just then, a hand blocked the space between Narumiya Mei and Miyuki.
"Little blonde, what are you doing looking for our catcher?"
Li, little blonde?
Narumiya Mei turned his head blankly; was he calling him?
After reacting, Narumiya Mei immediately bared his teeth and shouted: "Huh? Who are you?"
"Yo, you even have little fangs." Huangqian Yangyi felt a surge of playfulness; this little golden retriever was actually quite cute when he got angry.
Miyuki, standing to the side, saw the two of them at loggerheads and helplessly retreated to the side, silently chuckling to himself.
"Hey, Kazuya, who is this guy?" Narumiya Mei pointed his finger at Huangqian Yangyi, but turned his head to ask Miyuki.
Huangqian Yangyi was quick-witted and fast-handed, grabbing Narumiya Mei's hand to shake it: "I am that super amazing Seido First Year Pitcher you were talking about, Huangqian Yangyi."
"Huh?" Narumiya Mei turned his head back in surprise, "You?"
"What? Is that not allowed?"
Narumiya Mei snorted: "How fast is your top speed!?"
"I'm not telling you."
"It's definitely not as fast as mine." Narumiya Mei was furious.
"So what? I'm taller than you."
"Your control isn't as good as mine either." Narumiya Mei was furious again.
"I'm taller than you."
"I can..."
"Mei!"
A big guy walked over and placed his hand on Narumiya Mei's shoulder, "Mei, what were you just about to say?"
Narumiya Mei's whole body stiffened, and he slowly turned his head back, "Senior Harada, I didn't say anything."
The person who arrived was none other than the current Second Year starting Catcher for Inashiro, Harada Masatoshi.
Harada Masatoshi looked at Huangqian Yangyi and Miyuki Kazuya, then grabbed Narumiya Mei by the collar and hauled him back.
He felt secretly relieved, thankful that he had arrived quickly; if he had been even a little later, his own kid would have revealed all his secrets.
Narumiya Mei was forced to leave, and Huangqian Yangyi and Miyuki exchanged a look.
"Hahaha! Little golden retriever." Miyuki pointed at Narumiya Mei, who was being dragged back by Harada Masatoshi.
"Right? Right? He looks even more like one now."
