Chapter 71: The Summer Training Camp Begins
Without a shred of room for negotiation, Huangqian Yangyi turned around and said to Masuko Toru, who was sitting at the table eating pudding while watching the match, "Senior, give me another one."
"Uga!" (You've already eaten one!)
Masuko Toru looked at Huangqian Yangyi pitifully; this devil had shamelessly eaten one of his puddings the moment he walked in, and now he actually wanted to eat another—how could there be such a hateful junior!
"Come on, don't be stingy, Senior. When your birthday comes, I'll treat you to a pudding cake!"
"A pudding cake?!"
Just thinking about it made Masuko Toru shiver all over; just how big would that pudding be?
"Yeah, a 12-inch one."
"You're not lying to me?"
"Of course."
Masuko Toru thought for a moment, then turned and took a pudding out of the drawer to hand to Huangqian Yangyi: "I believe you."
"Haha. Thanks." Huangqian Yangyi laughed and started eating.
There is a saying that goes well: professionals do professional things; the pudding collected by this pudding expert was indeed delicious.
Next time he went back to Kyoto, he would take some back for his younger sister to try.
After playing games with Kuramochi until twelve at night, Huangqian Yangyi and Miyuki finally returned to their dormitory while yawning.
"Kid, it's the middle of the night and you're not sleeping; where have you been running around?" Dong Qingguo was still playing on his phone at the time and asked curiously when he saw Huangqian Yangyi return.
"Playing games, just relaxing a bit," Huangqian Yangyi said.
Hearing this, Dong Qingguo chuckled and said nothing more, but Chris, who was still working hard on his studies at the table, stopped his pen, turned around, and said, "Yangyi, I heard your Japanese is very good?"
Huangqian Yangyi nodded, "Yeah, Senior Chris, what's wrong?"
Chris hesitated for a moment and said, "Could you teach me?"
"Huh??"
For a split second, Huangqian Yangyi thought he had misheard; what did Senior Chris say? Teach him?
Hehehehe~~
"Senior's Japanese..."
"Yeah, it's a bit difficult; I didn't get first place on the last exam," Chris said.
Uh...
Huangqian Yangyi was completely speechless; not getting first place was what he called difficult.
Fortunately, Japanese was his strong suit, so teaching Chris would be easy.
"Alright, then starting tomorrow?" Huangqian Yangyi asked.
Chris nodded, then checked the time, "Time to sleep."
One week later, with midterms over, the Seido Baseball Club was about to welcome a hellish summer training camp.
The day before the training camp began, just as Huangqian Yangyi had finished his self-directed training and was preparing to return to the dormitory, he discovered that the lights were still on when he passed by the cafeteria.
After walking closer and looking through the small window on the door, he saw that inside the cafeteria, several Managers were wearing aprons and gloves, sitting at a table and busy with something.
Huangqian Yangyi pushed the door open and entered, and the several Managers immediately looked over.
"Yangyi, why are you here?" A flash of surprise crossed Fujiwara Takako's eyes.
"Just passing by, saw the lights were on, so I came to take a look. Seniors, what are you doing?" Huangqian Yangyi asked.
Fujiwara Takako smiled and said, "Making something delicious. Training camp starts tomorrow, and since everyone is working so hard, we have to do our part with the logistics too."
Hearing this, Huangqian Yangyi looked at the piles of rice balls on the table and said, "Thank you for your hard work."
"It's no trouble at all," Fujiwara Takako said.
At this moment, Jiantian Youxiang put down the rice ball she had just finished molding and asked, "Huangqian, what flavor do you like?"
"Me? I'm not a picky eater, anything is fine," Huangqian Yangyi said.
Jiantian Youxiang pouted, "What a perfunctory answer."
"Well, as long as it's made by you Seniors, I'll like eating it."
"Oh? 'Seniors'? Which Senior?" Jiantian Youxiang started up again.
Just as Huangqian Yangyi was about to speak, Fujiwara Takako spoke first, "Alright, Yangyi, hurry back and get some rest. The training camp starting tomorrow is very tough; if you're sleep-deprived, you might not be able to hold up through the training."
Fujiwara Takako suddenly remembered last year, when she first saw Seido's summer training camp; some players even fainted during training, and that scene had almost scared her to tears.
"Yeah, you Seniors should get some rest early too," Huangqian Yangyi said before turning and leaving.
The next evening, after the daily training ended, everyone did not go back to rest but stayed on the field; from this moment on, the training camp unique to the First String began.
"Miyuki, hurry, eat more, otherwise you won't be able to hold up later." Huangqian Yangyi took a few rice balls from Fujiwara Takako and handed them to Miyuki.
Aowu aowu aowu—out of trust for Huangqian Yangyi, Miyuki finished them in a flash, eating his fill without a moment's hesitation.
Yohoho—seeing Miyuki finish eating, Huangqian Yangyi secretly retreated to the side and exchanged a knowing laugh with the other seniors.
"Yangyi, if you do this, won't Miyuki be angry?" Fujiwara Takako asked with some concern.
"No, no, Miyuki isn't that stingy," Huangqian Yangyi said.
Soon, the training camp officially began.
In less than half an hour, Huangqian Yangyi felt what was meant by devilish training.
Ever since the First String roster was announced, until the Summer Tournament began, all activities of everyone in the Seido Baseball Club would revolve around the training of the 20 members of the First String; both A and B fields had to be cleared for the First String to use.
The field was large and the facilities were sufficient, but there were only 20 people in the First String, which meant that once any training item began, the rotation time in between would be shortened to an extremely small degree, leaving no time for rest or catching one's breath.
For example, the current base-running training.
"Huangqian! Aren't you supposed to be good? Start running!"
"What are you doing lying there like a turtle!"
"It's only been this long and you're already done for? Too pathetic!"
The third-year seniors who failed to make the First String and were assisting with the training camp all felt a secret thrill when they saw Huangqian Yangyi being tortured to death by the training, and one by one, they even began to mock him aloud.
Having just finished one round and barely had time to rest, the urging shouts from behind forced Huangqian Yangyi to stand up and continue base running.
"What are you yelling for! So annoying!"
While running the bases, Huangqian Yangyi didn't forget to talk back; these seniors were too hateful.
"Yo, still have the energy to shout back, looks like you're not tired yet."
"Coach! Huangqian can do ten more laps!"
"Bullshit!!"
Huangqian Yangyi roared.
After the base running training came Batting Practice; standing in the batter's box, Huangqian Yangyi felt his legs still trembling, and the ball was already flying toward him.
Swing!!
Missed.
"Again!" the senior responsible for pitching shouted from the other side.
Huangqian Yangyi took a deep breath and swung his bat again, missing once more.
This is screwed; his body was too tired, and he couldn't concentrate at all.
Time passed like this until evening; because it was the first day of the training camp, the intensity wasn't pushed too high.
But even so, Huangqian Yangyi still saw the precious scene of Miyuki being trained until he vomited.
