Chapter 10: White Dragon Fish

~6 min read 1,145 words

Under the moonlight, Chu Danqing saw the shape of the Bai Long Yu clearly.

He also understood why it was called “White Dragon.”

Its entire body resembled a crocodile, but its long, thick neck, combined with gill-like appendages and dorsal fins similar to those of a six-armed dinosaur, made it look at first glance like a white dragon crouched low.

The Bai Long Yu moved with extreme speed; once on land, the massive creature charged toward them.

Da Bao blocked its path immediately; his burly frame appeared small against the ten-meter-long Bai Long Yu.

“You two go back first,” Da Bao held the beast’s jaws with both hands, barely restraining them as he was steadily pushed backward.

In terms of attribute confrontation, Da Bao was at a disadvantage and could not hold out long.

During this time, the Bai Long Yu’s foreclaws struck Da Bao’s body, tearing deep gashes down to the bone.

Blood sprayed as Da Bao, wracked with pain, began to accumulate fury.

Wu Lao Liu turned and ran, but Chu Danqing did not—he immediately seized his broadsword and thrust it toward the Bai Long Yu’s eyeball.

The Bai Long Yu’s attributes completely overwhelmed him; if Da Bao died here, all of Chu Danqing’s subsequent plans would be ruined.

Da Bao sensed Chu Danqing’s intent, his tendons bulging as he unleashed all his strength to pin the Bai Long Yu’s head in place.

Sssshhh~

The broadsword first met the tough surface of the eyeball, but under Chu Danqing’s full force, it pierced through and drove straight through the Bai Long Yu’s eye.

“Waaah!!!” The Bai Long Yu, writhing in agony, broke free of Da Bao’s grip, thrashing its neck left and right and flinging the broadsword out of its eye.

It stretched its neck to its full length and opened its bloody maw toward Chu Danqing.

“Don’t you dare… eat people!” Seeing this, Da Bao abandoned all caution, charging full force into the Bai Long Yu.

Boom~

The Bai Long Yu actually staggered from the impact, its bite aimed at Chu Danqing abruptly halted.

Chu Danqing snapped back to awareness—what had just happened was too fast; as an ordinary man, he could not have reacted in time.

He noticed Da Bao’s anomaly: under rage, Da Bao’s strength had increased.

At this moment, Da Bao clenched his fists and delivered three consecutive punches to the Bai Long Yu’s neck.

Each punch was heavier than the last, and since they struck the same spot, visible fist-shaped indentations appeared on the neck.

Chu Danqing did not stand idle—he immediately retrieved the flung broadsword, still stained with the Bai Long Yu’s blood.

He prepared to launch another attack.

But the next instant, Da Bao suddenly retreated, grabbed Chu Danqing by the arm, and fled without hesitation.

A crimson mist mixed with water vapor rose from the Bai Long Yu’s body; a piercing infant-like cry erupted from its mouth, accompanied by a violent jet of water.

Wherever the water jet passed, whether stone or tree, everything shattered.

The Bai Long Yu spat continuously while chasing them at high speed, radiating an aura of relentless vengeance.

Chu Danqing felt this aura and confirmed the depth of the Bai Long Yu’s hatred toward him.

Wounded and enraged, the Bai Long Yu was undoubtedly in a frenzy.

Even Da Bao dared not face it head-on; if not for him dragging Chu Danqing away, Chu Danqing would already be dead.

Only when the water jet ceased did the Bai Long Yu finally stop.

Apparently because its internal water had been fully expelled, the Bai Long Yu’s body shrank by more than half, now only five meters long, its skin sagging and its weight rapidly decreasing.

It glared at Chu Danqing with a hateful gaze for three seconds, then swiftly turned and fled.

Da Bao also halted, his expression hesitant.

“Forget me—kill this evil thing first!” Chu Danqing saw Da Bao’s hesitation and made the decision for him.

Clearly, the Bai Long Yu’s combat potency depended on its internal water reserves.

Having used its ultimate technique out of rage and injury, the Bai Long Yu, now drained of water, was at its weakest.

With those words, Da Bao no longer hesitated—he turned back and pursued the Bai Long Yu.

“I hope it works,” Chu Danqing muttered under his breath, then cautiously scanned his surroundings.

There seemed to be sounds in the forest—not from the Bai Long Yu, but something else.

But it was night; even with moonlight, he could not clearly perceive his surroundings, so he gripped the broadsword tightly, his face grim.

A gust of wind howled past, and Chu Danqing then noticed, on the hill behind, something moving among the trees, faintly visible under the moonlight.

That thing seemed to sense Chu Danqing’s gaze and suddenly accelerated toward his position.

The distance between them visibly closed until the figure vanished into Chu Danqing’s blind spot.

“This is bad,” Chu Danqing’s heart sank.

He had seen the village guardians of the Three Scenic Spots and the Bai Long Yu—so the strange entity on the hill must be connected to the Falling Petal Cave.

It intended to meddle, to take advantage of the chaos.

The rustling grew louder; a shadow darted forward, and Chu Danqing thrust his broadsword.

“It’s me, Xiao Chu,” the shadow spoke—it was Da Bao, carrying the corpse of the Bai Long Yu’s offspring: “The evil thing slipped away.”

“The water-dwelling evil thing is too powerful—I could only blind its other eye.”

As he spoke, Da Bao dropped the corpse of the Bai Long Yu’s offspring on the ground, his gaze fixed on the hill.

“The Black Hole has arrived too—I came back to protect you.” Da Bao could have pursued; he knew the Bai Long Yu’s lair.

But in the water, he had sensed the presence from the Falling Petal Cave was hostile—if he hadn’t returned, Chu Danqing would have been dragged off and devoured.

The rustling in the forest returned, but Chu Danqing could not make out what it was.

“Get lost, or I’ll kill you all!” Da Bao roared with ferocity, his demeanor terrifying, radiating an aura that made the hair on one’s scalp stand on end.

This was utterly unlike his usual demeanor when speaking with Chu Danqing or the villagers.

The rustling returned again, rhythmic and deliberate—as if communicating with Da Bao.

“No. Xiao Chu is our village’s guest. We will not hand him over.”

“If you’re not afraid of death, come try,” Da Bao’s voice grew louder, even causing Chu Danqing, standing beside him, to feel a chill.

Against this one of the Three Scenic Spots—the Falling Petal Cave—did Da Bao, as village guardian, possess some form of control?

Under Da Bao’s firm stance, the rustling in the forest began retreating toward the hill.

But this matter was far from over.
