Chapter 10: The Sword Light That Cuts Through Heaven and Earth, the Blood Blossoms in the Air
On the playground, the silver-haired boy still stared blankly at the “mutant rat”; at first, when the “mutant rat” shoved him, he screamed loudly, thinking he was going to die, but as time passed and he realized he was merely being shoved around without a single scratch, he gradually stopped shouting.
He tried opening his eyes and happened to lock gazes with the “mutant rat”; whether it was his imagination or not, he thought he saw a hint of confusion in the rat’s eyes.
“What the hell is going on?” The silver-haired boy looked utterly bewildered.
The “mutant rat” seemed to realize its behavior lacked any real intimidation, so it paused, opened its mouth wide, and its sharp teeth gleamed brilliantly in the sunlight.
“Ahh—!”
The silver-haired boy shut his eyes and screamed again.
“Fuck you!”
At that moment, a figure suddenly appeared—so fast it was nearly invisible—and in one motion, the person kicked midair, sending the “mutant rat” flying.
“Boom!”
The “mutant rat” slammed hard onto the ground, sliding several meters before stopping; it shook its head, clearly dazed.
“Nice one, Zhang Yu. Didn’t know you had it in you.”
Chen Hao appeared beside them without warning, watching Zhang Yu’s kick, and couldn’t help but clap.
“Of course—I haven’t been eating all these days for nothing.”
Zhang Yu stretched his shoulders, then turned to the other “mutant rats,” his tone tinged with provocation.
“Just a few rats, daring to cause trouble on our campus? You clearly don’t respect humans at all.”
“Back off now, and I’ll pretend nothing happened. Step forward again, and it’ll be the end of the world.”
He raised his hand, pointing at the “mutant rats,” his voice loud—but utterly useless.
The few “mutant rats” exchanged glances, then surged forward, pinning Zhang Yu to the ground.
“Hey hey hey! That’s not fair!”
“Fight me one-on-one! Ganging up on one guy is cheating!”
Outnumbered and overwhelmed, Zhang Yu struggled briefly before being pinned motionless, shouting helplessly from the ground.
“Squeak-squeak—”
The “mutant rats” seemed to understand him, letting out a few squeaks, as if mocking his arrogance.
“Ahh—!”
Zhang Yu let out a piercing scream; though the “mutant rats” hadn’t actually harmed him, being crushed under creatures larger than himself made anyone feel miserable.
“Bye.”
After watching Zhang Yu’s torment for a moment, Chen Hao waved his hand and turned away without hesitation, running off.
“.”
Ye Xuan hadn’t expected Zhang Yu and Chen Hao to be the ones who stepped forward.
Though Chen Hao appeared to do nothing and left without a second thought, with his “Eagle Eye” ability, how could he not have noticed the “mutant rats” had no intention of harming Zhang Yu?
It was just entertainment for his buddy.
“But… are there no others?”
“This entire school, so many students—only three with abilities?”
“Or are they all still hiding?”
“They’re quite patient.”
Ye Xuan glanced around and, seeing no one else intended to act, slowly stepped forward.
“Aaaah!” Zhang Yu was still screaming.
At that moment, a streak of light flashed past, accompanied by a faint whistle through the air.
“Crack—!”
With a sharp sound, the several “mutant rats” surrounding Zhang Yu were all blasted away, crashing to the ground with pained squeaks.
Zhang Yu froze, then scrambled to his feet, brushing dust off his clothes, looking utterly confused.
“What just happened?”
Ye Xuan stood beside him, calmly retracting the spinning sword sheath from the air.
“Nothing happened.”
Zhang Yu looked at the “mutant rats” struggling to rise around him, then at Ye Xuan’s calm face, and a thought formed in his mind:
“You awakened an ability?”
“Sort of. But I think you can guess more boldly.”
Ye Xuan glanced at him and smiled faintly.
“More boldly?”
Zhang Yu frowned in confusion, while Ye Xuan, gazing at the surroundings, spoke coldly:
“We’ve reached this point—no need to keep testing anymore, right?”
“You’ve made it this obvious—anyone trying to hide must’ve figured it out by now.”
“If you still want to keep playing, these rats are going to die.”
Ye Xuan didn’t know whether these “mutant rats” were truly mutated creatures or summoned entities—either from someone who awakened a Summoning ability or from a celestial treasure. Such intelligence and power were far beyond normal mutated beasts.
A mere level-three earthquake, a few “mutant rats” deliberately holding back—everything was far too obvious. Clearly, someone wanted to see if any students among them were hiding their strength.
It wasn’t impossible. Not everyone enjoyed showing off.
Parents would be thrilled if their child awakened an ability—or even had a chance to join a national department—but for the students themselves, it wasn’t always desirable.
Caution, steadiness, survival-first mentality—those who wished to hide could suppress all desires.
Perhaps at their age, the urge to “shine before others” was inevitable—but at least it should come in true crisis, not in such an obvious fake scenario.
The few “mutant rats” struggled to their feet, their black pupils flashing crimson; their eyes locked onto Ye Xuan. The next second, their spiritual energy surged, faint green patterns emerging on their fur, their speed increasing severalfold as they charged straight at Ye Xuan!
“So that’s how it is. I understand.”
Ye Xuan nodded slightly, slowly raising the Wangquan Sword in his hand. Golden light erupted from the blade, like a rising sun bursting from its edge—so blinding that everyone involuntarily shut their eyes.
Invisible sword qi began gathering in the air, as if all spiritual energy in heaven and earth were drawn toward this single strike. Before the blade even moved, the air grew thick, as if time itself had frozen.
“Hum—!”
A sword cry echoed across heaven and earth as Ye Xuan brought the Wangquan Sword down with full force.
In an instant, a brilliant golden blade of light split the sky, as if cleaving heaven and earth in two. Where the light passed, the ground cracked, rocks shattered and flew, and visible fissures appeared in the air—as if space itself had been severed.
“Shhh!”
The moment the blade met the “mutant rats,” there was no resistance—it pierced their bodies effortlessly. Crimson blood burst into the air like blooming crimson flowers, yet instantly vaporized by the lingering force of the sword light.
The “mutant rats” never had time to scream—they were consumed by the blade, reduced to dust.
