Chapter 91: Energy Reaction Reaches Fourth-Rank: The Deep King from the One Punch Man World
Third-rank mutated creatures only have limited resistance to conventional thermal weapons; under one-on-one conditions, they are certainly no match, and if they get close enough while one’s own strength is insufficient, death is inevitable—but what if you simply prevent them from getting close?
Our cannons don’t belong to the category of conventional weapons; can a third-rank mutated creature survive one shot? Can it survive two?
Two shots might work—what about more?
They lack everything except ammunition; one appears, one gets blasted.
But fourth-rank is different.
It possesses true power capable of altering the battlefield and ignoring the vast majority of human weapons.
In actual combat, unless they have fourth- or fifth-rank experts, anything they send will die.
Can’t they just detonate a mushroom bomb right on their own territory?
Forget mushroom bombs—even any weapon with slightly greater power can’t be used.
As for detecting them at long range and firing a shot, theoretically possible—Great Xia’s radar has sufficient detection range—but can you just fire a shot without cause? At the very least, you must confirm they intend to approach land and determine whether they harbor malice.
What if they’re here to ally with humans?
Don’t say it’s impossible; fourth-rank mutated creatures’ intelligence isn’t necessarily lower than humans’, and many marine species are inherently intelligent.
By the time everything is confirmed, if they truly harbor malice, mushroom bombs and such would already be useless.
While the two men were chatting, the control panel suddenly blared a shrill telephone ring. Old Zhou immediately picked up the receiver, but before he could speak, a voice came from the other end:
“This is the Tian Shu Bureau’s Bibo City branch.”
“Radar has detected an anomalous biological group near shore, moving toward your position; estimated contact with coastline in thirty minutes. The lead target is approximately twenty meters in length, accompanied by over a hundred large, medium, and small targets.”
Old Zhou’s face instantly darkened.
“Received.”
He slammed the red alarm button on the control panel.
Instantly, a piercing alarm echoed along the entire coastline; the young man’s expression grew tense yet excited.
“They’ve really come?”
“The phone call came—why ask? Execute emergency protocol immediately.”
Old Zhou had already donned his tactical vest, patted the young man’s shoulder, then shouted into the communicator:
“Everyone, prepare immediately.”
Amid the alarm, the entire defense system activated rapidly:
Automated turrets disengaged safeties, emitting the hum of machinery; searchlights flared to life, illuminating the sea as bright as day; drone hangar doors opened, and reconnaissance drones surged skyward in a roar.
Tian Shu Bureau personnel, fully armed, rushed to their positions, all staring intently at the sea ahead.
The air thickened with suffocating tension; even a seabird flying overhead triggered reflexive commotion. The communication channels held only the hiss of static; everyone remained utterly silent.
Seconds ticked by. The sound of waves crashing against shore grew unnervingly clear. Some breathed heavier; some subtly flexed stiff fingers—but every eye remained fixed on the seemingly calm sea.
Suddenly, the observer’s pupils contracted sharply.
“They’re here!”
The calm sea erupted without warning. Dozens of grotesque figures burst from the water, their mutated bodies gleaming with metallic luster under the searchlights, their roars instantly drowning out the ocean’s roar.
“Fire!”
Without hesitation, they didn’t even care what kind of mutated sea beasts had emerged; the entire coastline unleashed deadly tongues of flame. The shriek of shells tearing through air merged with thunderous explosions, blinding light turning the night sky as bright as day.
Shockwaves lifted water walls dozens of meters high; shells wove a net of death through the air. The monsters barely exposed themselves before being utterly consumed by this annihilating firepower.
The blast shockwaves even made the ground tremble slightly. Amid choking smoke, countless severed limbs and body parts were hurled high into the air, then crashed down. A giant octopus that barely escaped the barrage raised its tentacles—only to be riddled with bullets, its emerald-black blood spraying across the sand, reeking of foul stench.
After just over ten seconds, the artillery fire subsided. The sea surface now held only floating debris; the once-fearsome mutated sea beasts were now completely annihilated.
“One remains.”
The observer’s voice came through the communicator, but no one relaxed—the obvious truth was clear: the last one was the greatest threat.
Murky water surged violently. A shadow far larger than any previous sea beast slowly rose to the surface. With a deafening crash of waves, the Deep King’s terrifying twenty-meter frame fully emerged before them.
Its grayish-blue skin glistened with damp, cold luster under the searchlights. A crown atop its head dripped seawater; its cloudy yellow eyes coldly scanned the coastal defenses.
“Is it not weapons, but not heroes, that eliminate monsters?”
“Their power is considerably stronger than any I’ve seen before.”
“But that’s all.”
The Deep King spoke calmly; it had witnessed from the deep the complete annihilation of its newly subjugated subordinates.
Those mutated sea beasts possessed some intelligence, but clearly not enough—even basic knowledge of this region and human cities eluded them; they only knew land held things the ocean lacked.
Their strength was no different from its former underlings, yet they couldn’t even withstand human weapons—useless.
It slowly stepped toward shore, a mocking expression on its grayish-blue face; with each step, water churned beneath its feet, forming vortices.
“Fire!”
Terrifying artillery once again engulfed the entire sea. All weapon systems operated at full power; explosions swallowed the Deep King’s form entirely.
No one pondered why this mutated sea beast bore a humanoid form, why it wore a crown, or why a red robe draped its back; no one considered it might not be a native mutated creature, but an invader from another world.
These were not their concerns—others would handle them.
All they must do now is one thing—devote every ounce of strength to eliminate the threat before them!
Inside the monitoring room, the observer did not hesitate, immediately contacting the Tian Shu Bureau.
“This is Bibo City Monitoring Station. Target has breached fire blockade. Energy reaction has reached fourth-rank! Based on characteristic comparison, suspected to be the Deep King from the One Punch Man world!”
“Request immediate reinforcements and civilian evacuation.”
The communicator fell silent for two seconds, then replied urgently:
“I’ll report to headquarters immediately. Hold on! Reinforcements are coming!”
