Chapter 110: Test
This is a very interesting and incredible process.
The soil and rocks shaped themselves according to their own will; vast expanses of ruins and debris gradually melted into and were swallowed by the earth like chocolate dropped into hot milk. The contours of the farmland in the distance were already outlined, and on the site of the original ruined temple, a flat clearing that looked as if it had been organized by machines rapidly took shape.
Afterwards, stones rose from the center of the clearing, forming a large platform hovering about ten-plus centimeters above the ground.
Yu Sheng felt his connection with this valley becoming increasingly tight, and this control became correspondingly effortless. He focused his spirit even more, attempting to refine the platform in detail while constantly increasing its strength and the "depth" rooted underground.
This process was like gradually familiarizing oneself with one's own "limbs."
He planned to use this "valley" as one of his bases; the moment he confirmed this foreign realm was harmless, he had wanted to do this—this place could let him farm, could serve as a "testing ground" for Erin, could let Hu Li run wild and "cultivate," and in the future, if there were any "projects" unsuitable for the outside, they could all be completed within this valley.
But he hadn't expected this "construction" process to begin in such a manner.
Hu Li widened her eyes, standing alongside the two Erins, watching Yu Sheng busily working with curiosity, her gaze full of admiration. After a long while, she suddenly sighed: "Benefactor, you could be a Civil Engineering Immortal..."
"So your hometown has Immortals for everything, right?" Erin finally couldn't hold back; she had wanted to complain about this long ago. "Do you guys also have Stir-Fried Noodle Immortals, Braised Noodle Immortals, and Beef Banmian Immortals over there?"
"Those are collectively called Cooking Immortals," Hu Li refuted solemnly. "If registered separately, wouldn't that occupy a lot of social resources? The Immortal Alliance wouldn't approve it."
Erin looked utterly amazed: "... Holy crap, there really are Cooking Immortals!"
Just then, Yu Sheng finally finished laying his foundation. On top of the foundation, in one corner of the platform, he shaped a small shelter capable of meeting the need for wind and rain protection (although there seemed to be no wind or rain in this valley). He approached Hu Li and Erin, asking curiously: "What are you two chatting about?"
The two puppets pointed at the fox-girl together: "The silly fox says you could be a Concrete-Pouring Immortal."
"No, a Civil Engineering Immortal," Hu Li immediately corrected solemnly.
The corner of Yu Sheng's mouth twitched right then, but he managed to suppress it. He turned to introduce his labor to them: "Look, this place will be our second 'headquarters' outside 66 Wutong Road in the future. I have a grand architectural plan: to build a large structure on the foundation of that original ruined temple, something like an ancient civilization temple, looking magnificent, imposing, and mysterious. In the future, it will be the headquarters of our 'Inn' organization..."
"Three people occupying a whole city, huh? You really dare to plan that," Erin complained without hesitation. Immediately, she pointed with some curiosity at the gray, blocky "box" on the edge of the platform that looked like a large matchbox. "Is that a temporary toilet?"
Yu Sheng stood with a stiff expression for a while, then finally spoke awkwardly: "... That is the first step of the architectural plan. You can consider it Temple Generation One."
Erin: "..."
For the first time, this Beep-Beep Hime didn't know how to beep for a moment.
Yu Sheng quickly took the opportunity to change the subject: "Just practicing, starting construction from the most basic geometric shapes—let's not talk about that for now. Let's handle the real business first and test the 'remote control distance' of your new body."
Erin's attention was indeed immediately diverted. The two puppets looked up at Yu Sheng simultaneously: "How do we test? Do I start running in two directions now and see when the line breaks?"
"With your two little short legs, how long would it take you to run on your own?" Yu Sheng glanced at Erin twice, then, before she could explode, reached out and lifted the puppet body carrying the picture frame (the main unit). He then pointed at the other one. "This body goes with Hu Li. You two run in that direction ahead, all the way to the end of the valley. I'll take your main body, open a door directly to that 'mountain range edge' where we arrived last time, and see what happens."
While he was speaking, Hu Li had already run ten meters ahead, lying flat on the ground. Spiritual energy swirled and auspicious light floated, and a nine-tailed fox the size of two vans emerged from the light and shadow. Then, looking expectantly at Erin (the secondary body) on the ground, she said: "Erin! Come on, let's run together!"
Erin instantly recalled the experience of crossing the valley with that rocket-boosted supersonic fox last time. Her little face immediately crumpled into a mess: "Can't we change the plan..."
Yu Sheng immediately handed over the puppet carrying the picture frame that he was holding: "Then let's swap. This one goes with Hu Li, and you go with me."
The two puppets froze for a split second. The next second, they reacted, shouting in unison and glaring angrily at Yu Sheng: "But that's still me, damn it!"
While speaking, the Erin on the ground had already wobbled into motion, walking toward Hu Li. As she walked, she muttered to herself: "Forget it, this body should go with the silly fox after all. At least this body's senses are more dull, so there might not be such a big reaction."
Hu Li draped one tail on the ground. Watching Erin climb onto her back using both hands and feet along the tail, she turned back and reminded: "Sit further back, grab the fur, don't fall off when I accelerate."
While carefully grabbing a tuft of downy fur on Hu Li's back, Erin negotiated with the other: "Slow down a bit later, don't just take off like last time..."
Hu Li didn't wait for the puppet to finish before nodding repeatedly: "Mm-mm, don't worry, my acceleration curve is great!"
She obviously hadn't listened much to what the puppet was saying. Her mind was filled only with the joy of preparing to run wild. Several large tails swished behind her, kicking up sand and stones...
Then she turned, took a few trotting steps in the direction Yu Sheng had just pointed out, and began to accelerate.
Accompanied by Erin's scream rapidly fading into the distance, the great fox roared and flew out...
The fox fire behind Hu Li's tail even produced Mach rings.
"Being full really makes a difference."
Watching from afar the sight of Hu Li swiftly sweeping across the valley floor, listening to that thunderous continuous roar, Yu Sheng couldn't help but sigh.
Then he heard Erin on his shoulder start complaining loudly: "I shouldn't have believed she could slow down! I feel like I'm about to fall apart!"
"It's fine. If you really fall apart, I'll glue you back together later," Yu Sheng grinned, then casually opened a large door leading to the other side of the valley. "Let's go, we'll wait on the other side first."
The rocket-boosted supersonic fox ran very fast, but no matter how fast, it couldn't compare to Yu Sheng opening a teleportation door.
When Yu Sheng arrived at the mountain range boundary carrying Erin, Hu Li and the other Erin were still halfway there.
Looking down from the mountaintop, one could see a beautiful silver-white shadow sweeping through the valley like a gale. The deep blue fox fire had gathered into a long tail flame amidst intense eruption, propelling the great fox straight toward the mountain range at the far end of the valley. The violently erupting booster flames kicked up sand and stones along the way, looking quite spectacular.
"... I suspect she can really fly into the sky using the boost from those few tails," Yu Sheng murmured while stroking his chin. "Not this kind of low-altitude flight; I mean really flying high into the sky."
A moment later, Erin suddenly pressed close to his ear and shouted loudly: "The silly fox said! She really can!"
Yu Sheng quickly pulled the puppet on his shoulder away: "Don't shout right into my ear, I can hear you!"
Erin, suspended in mid-air by Yu Sheng holding the strap of the picture frame, swayed back and forth: "Oh, the commotion around that body over there was too loud; I couldn't switch over for a moment."
"How is it? Do you feel any sign of the connection between you and the other body breaking?"
"Seems not," Erin maintained her swaying posture in the air, pressing one hand against her chin as she seriously sensed it. "And don't say anything about signs of breaking; there isn't even a feeling of weakening at all."
While speaking, Yu Sheng saw that bright booster tail flame in the distance had risen to halfway up the mountain and was rapidly approaching the other mountain range boundary at the end of the valley.
"The connection is still very tight right now; there is no delay between the two bodies," Erin answered proactively before Yu Sheng could speak. "And no attenuation either."
"Didn't even feel any attenuation..." Yu Sheng frowned, thinking and murmuring at the same time. "That means, even if there is a limit to the connection between the two bodies, that limit distance might be absurdly far..."
"This entire foreign realm, counting the surrounding mountains, is quite large," Erin said. With a flexible sit-up, she got up, hooked her legs around Yu Sheng's forearm, then climbed onto his arm using both hands and feet, looking up and gazing into the distance. "Okay, now Hu Li has reached the opposite mountaintop. She's asking what to do next."
Yu Sheng pondered, then broke the silence a moment later: "Right now, we can only confirm that within the same space, the 'communication' distance between the two bodies is far enough. We still can't determine what would happen if they were placed in different spaces."
Erin looked full of curiosity: "Ah, so...?"
Yu Sheng reached out and pulled open a large door.
Outside the door was a nameless dense forest.
It was one of the locations he had discovered during countless door-opening tests before.
Ordinary and unremarkable, and he had "stockpiled" many, many coordinates just like this.
"Want to test something more extreme?" Yu Sheng looked at the puppet lying on his arm. "See just how far apart your two bodies can get."
"... Is it safe over there?"
"I went over and took a look before. Except for hotspots, there's nothing dangerous."
Eileen was obviously a bit hesitant.
But after a moment, she gritted her teeth, nodded, and said, "Fine."
