Chapter 141: Teacher Su Fainted Again

~9 min read 1,795 words

Although he didn't know what this "Teacher Su," whom he had only met once, wanted to say to him, Yu Sheng still asked the others to leave the room first.

Now, only two people remained in the room—Yu Sheng sat before the bed, looking with some curiosity at the young employee sent by the Borderland Council standing before him.

"What do you want to tell me?"

Teacher Su leaned against the headboard; her complexion was a bit better than before: "Thank you for bringing Xiaoxiao back... although I still can't understand how you managed to do it."

Yu Sheng smiled: "Oh, it's nothing; after all, given the situation at the time, I certainly couldn't just leave it alone."

"Are you investigating the matter of the 'Fairy Tales'? I mean... that 'Otherworld'." Teacher Su suddenly said.

Yu Sheng paused for a moment, seemingly not knowing why the other party suddenly brought up such a thing.

The young "teacher" opposite didn't mind his response; she just paused briefly, then continued on her own: "I have been working in this orphanage for five years—although in most of the Borderland, matters involving the supernatural are handled by the Special Operations Bureau, other departments of the Council also have personnel specifically dedicated to dealing with those supernatural phenomena. As one of them, I was sent here to serve as the children's 'teacher'..."

"Do you know? Similar things have been happening in this orphanage all along. Children will suddenly 'depart', sometimes in their sleep, sometimes in class, and even sometimes... one second they are happily sharing stories from picture books with you, asking if they can have ice cream after class, and then suddenly, they stop speaking, as if something has violently dragged them into another world—sometimes, they still have time to cry, but more often, they don't even have time to cry out for help or shed tears...

"In children under ten, loss of control always happens suddenly. The training I received requires me to discover any child showing abnormalities within ten minutes and send them to the nearest isolation room, while also comforting and guiding the other children during this process to prevent fear from spreading. At first, I was flustered, but fortunately, the 'parents' among those children provided help...

"When teaching them, my gaze swept over those little ones, but my mind was always filled with these thoughts—is this one a bit silent, is there danger? Is that one frowning, has he already felt unwell? One child arrived a bit late, has something already happened? Twelve children came to the classroom today, will there still be twelve tomorrow?

"Most of my colleagues can't last long here... they are all very idealistic people; when they first came here, they were also full of confidence. We knew the orphans were eroded by the 'Fairy Tales' because they lacked 'protection' and 'bonds'. We thought that as long as we gave them enough care and protected them as much as possible like family, the situation would improve a little, but as I said... very, very few people can persist."

Yu Sheng didn't interrupt the other party; although all this rambling from Teacher Su seemed a bit "off-topic," he still listened quietly.

But just then, the young Council employee suddenly realized, stopped those memories, and showed a trace of apology on her face: "Sorry, I didn't originally mean to tell you these things; it sounds like I'm just complaining about work..."

Yu Sheng waved his hand indifferently: "It's fine; this also helps me indirectly understand what is happening in this orphanage."

Teacher Su nodded slightly, then composed herself a bit, organized her words, and finally brought the topic back on track: "... Actually, what I want to say is, if you really intend to investigate the matter of the 'Fairy Tales' next, it would be best to go to the Special Operations Bureau first—see if you can borrow some of their files, focusing on the files from seventy years ago."

Yu Sheng's expression changed immediately; he instinctively leaned forward: "... Why?"

"I don't know if Little Red Riding Hood mentioned it to you," Teacher Su slowly began, "a long time ago, the Council and the Special Operations Bureau once tried to solve the influence of the 'Fairy Tales' by directly taking over all 'Special Orphans'."

"She told me about this," Yu Sheng nodded immediately, "and she also told me that this plan failed very quickly—because the 'Fairy Tales' have a strong rejection of adults, so a major incident occurred."

"Yes, it failed, many people died, including a large number of Special Operations Bureau agents and the most senior Deep Divers, but they also left behind a lot of data, data on the various 'reactions' produced when adults come into contact with the 'Fairy Tales', and this data is in the Special Operations Bureau's archives," Teacher Su paused slightly here, "strictly speaking, this should be the only 'deep observation records' regarding the 'Fairy Tale Otherworld' under high-activity conditions currently in the world, and most importantly... this batch of data was recorded from the perspective of 'adults' and 'explorers'; for you, data from this perspective might be more referenceable than the 'experience' of Little Red Riding Hood and the others."

Upon hearing this, Yu Sheng's eyes instantly became serious: "Then this is truly very useful—the files from seventy years ago, right?"

Teacher Su nodded, but her expression was somewhat conflicted: "But the biggest problem is that this file has a security classification; ordinary Spirit World detectives would find it very difficult to apply for access permission—and my department and the Special Operations Bureau are not the same system, so it's hard for me to help here. However, since you successfully brought a child back from the Black Forest, perhaps you can use that to attract the Special Operations Bureau's attention..."

"Uh, that's not so troublesome," Yu Sheng heard this, his expression becoming somewhat subtle; while muttering, he picked up his phone, "I... actually know some people in the Special Operations Bureau who are quite in charge. Wait a moment, let me ask; it should be possible to borrow them."

He spoke very measuredly this time, not directly mentioning Bai Liqing's name in front of someone he just met, but the "Teacher Su" before him obviously misunderstood something; seeing Yu Sheng preparing to make a call, she quickly added a few more sentences: "I still suggest you go through the proper channels; the Special Operations Bureau's system is very strict, even stricter than the Council's general departments, especially their Director, the Iron-Faced Stoic..."

Before she even finished speaking, Yu Sheng had already quickly dialed the number of his last contact, and the person on the other end answered almost instantly: "Hello? Yu Sheng?"

Yu Sheng didn't speak, looking up at "Teacher Su" leaning on the bed.

That "Iron-Faced Stoic" was clear and distinct, perfectly enunciated—and Yu Sheng's phone was on speaker.

The next second, Bai Liqing's voice came from the speaker, sounding as calm as usual: "Is there someone beside you?"

Yu Sheng continued to remain silent, while picking up the phone and showing the screen to Teacher Su opposite.

The young Council employee, an outstanding children's educator, an excellent service provider and volunteer at XX Fuli Academy, Su, closed her eyes not at all peacefully.

"I'll call you back later to explain; I've encountered an emergency situation here, so I'll hang up first..." Yu Sheng quickly tapped a string of keys on his phone, then hung up the call without waiting for Bai Liqing's response, jumped up in one bound, ran to the door in a few steps, and shouted down the hallway at the top of his voice, "Someone come! Your Teacher Su has fainted again!"

Thus, a small chaotic interlude occurred, but fortunately the situation was not serious—the school doctor soon took over the matters in the infirmary, and Teacher Su could now rest peacefully in bed.

Yu Sheng then regrouped with Hu Li, Erin, and Little Red Riding Hood's group.

After spending a little effort, Yu Sheng explained what had just happened, and everyone present looked at each other in silence.

"The psychological quality of the person sent by the Council isn't good either," Erin leaned on Yu Sheng's shoulder, speaking recklessly as if it had nothing to do with her, "fainted twice in a short while—is she okay?"

Yu Sheng felt a bit strange: "Why does it feel like so many people are quite afraid of Bai Liqing? It's understandable for the Special Operations Bureau people, after all she is their direct superior, but do people from other departments also have such overwhelming pressure?"

Little Red Riding Hood was stunned for a moment, then turned her head to look at Yu Sheng: "First, that Director is indeed famous for her ruthless methods and lack of mercy; everyone who has dealt with her is deeply impressed by this, I don't know where your impression of her being 'easy to talk to' comes from. Second... the Director of the Special Operations Bureau is herself one of the five top Councilors of the Council, didn't you know?"

This time it was Yu Sheng's turn to be a bit stunned: "... I didn't know."

Little Red Riding Hood shrugged, turned her head to look in the direction of the infirmary, and her expression inevitably showed some sympathy: "I hope Teacher Su can be more open-minded; such a big leader probably won't hold it against a grassroots employee like her—what about you, why did you make the call so fast, and even put it on speaker?"

"My hand just slipped," Yu Sheng tried to keep his face straight, "and honestly, given her volume and distance just now, it would have been the same even if I hadn't put it on speaker..."

Speaking of this, he paused, then quickly changed the subject: "Let's not talk about this for now; do you remember what I told you before? If we confirm Xiaoxiao's situation is stable, I plan to take you to a place."

Little Red Riding Hood was stunned for a moment, then quickly recalled.

This was the answer the other party gave her when she questioned Yu Sheng about what confidence he had to solve the Black Forest problem.

"I have finished my business here," Yu Sheng looked up, glanced at the sky outside, "it's not too late now—what do you say, are you interested in accepting my invitation?"

Little Red Riding Hood looked at Yu Sheng, then turned her head to look back behind her.

Rapunzel stood there, with the girl Xiaoxiao beside her, lips pressed together; they seemed not to know what had happened, their gazes filled with some confusion.

"Then I... will go out for a bit." Little Red Riding Hood said to them.
