Chapter 213: Crash Site of the Immortal Shuttle

~9 min read 1,644 words

Immersed in consciousness, he communicated with the distant coordinates, extending his perception until the massive door before him became a mapped target—Yu Sheng quickly adjusted his state, then attempted to transform the enormous warehouse door into a passage to an alien valley, following the familiar sensation of opening a "door."

Bai Liqing and Song Cheng instinctively held their breath, fixating entirely on the scene; behind Bai Liqing, a pair of eyes silently materialized in the air, observing with intense curiosity the phenomena invisible to ordinary eyes.

"Can you see anything?" Bai Liqing whispered inwardly.

"I can't interpret it, but I detect two spatial coordinates overlapping—truly… an incredible process," a slightly mechanical, flat voice responded in her mind. "Normally, this would require concentrating an immense amount of energy to 'curve' spacetime—but look, not even a whisper of wind stirs here, as if the spatial structure was always meant to overlap like this."

At that moment, a faint humming sound interrupted the voice in Bai Liqing's mind.

The next second, the center of the massive warehouse door suddenly "trembled," and beyond it, the distant "landscape" emerged within the door.

The passage had formed—the valley's scenery reflected in every eye—or rather, at this very instant, the distant alien valley truly "arrived" at this location.

Yu Sheng still had one hand pressed against the doorframe, gazing up at the astonishing "passage," himself feeling surprised.

"It actually works?" he muttered under his breath. "How the hell does this even work…?"

No sooner had he spoken than Ailin's voice came from beside his feet: "Huh?! You opened the door yourself—so who are you asking?!"

Yu Sheng ignored the tiny doll, continuing to ponder, then glanced again at the doorframe he was pressing.

He truly felt "ease"—so as long as it's a door… then what exactly is the essence of a "door"? How does a "door" determine itself? Is a warehouse door a "door"? What about a city gate? A valve? A larger door? Or even more abstract doors?

The roar of engines interrupted Yu Sheng's thoughts. He looked up to see the heavy trucks parked at the warehouse entrance—loaded with supplies and personnel—now starting up, with Song Cheng personally directing the convoy through the passage before them.

Bai Liqing walked over. The female director still wore a stern expression, but her gaze toward the passage held unmistakable unusualness.

"How long can you maintain it?" she asked curiously.

"A few hours, maybe," Yu Sheng thought, pointing to his hand still pressed against the doorframe. "Mainly because my hand gets tired—I have to keep holding it; if I let go, the door closes."

Bai Liqing: "... So aside from 'hand fatigue,' there's no other cost?"

"Maybe a bit sleepy?" Yu Sheng's tone was uncertain. "I've never actually kept one open this long before—normally I just push through in a few seconds, and once the passage is established, no extra maintenance is needed—I even have a fixed door in my basement at home, and that one stays open forever."

Bai Liqing's gaze grew even more subtle—but her icy expression concealed it perfectly.

Then she paused, raised a finger toward the passage: "Mind if I go through to take a look?"

"Of course not," Yu Sheng smiled, unsurprised. "Wait until the convoy passes, then we'll go—I'll be the last one through."

With the large passage open, the entire convoy entered the valley swiftly. Soon, Bai Liqing and Yu Sheng's group also passed through the door, arriving in the valley—perpetually bathed in daylight, with a pleasant environment.

Song Cheng stared, dumbfounded.

"I'd heard rumors about the changes here, but if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I'd never believe the 'Nightfall Valley' in the files could become this," Song said, scanning the open valley floor and the imposing mountains framed by the blue sky, instinctively reaching into his pocket for a cigarette. "Incredible… truly…"

"No smoking here," Ailin immediately dashed over to Song Cheng, holding out her hand. "Fifty."

Song blinked, looking at the unlit cigarette in his hand: "I haven't even lit it yet."

Ailin replied firmly: "Then light it right now, and give me fifty." "Ignore her," Yu Sheng said, half-laughing, half-exasperated, waving his hand. "But you really can't smoke here—mainly because landscaping here was hard enough. You have no idea how much effort it took to restore the valley's environment to this."

Bai Liqing remained silent, her gaze sweeping everywhere, her faded pale gray eyes seemingly scanning every "piece of information" in the valley, imprinting it directly into her mind. After a long while, she finally broke the silence with a calm tone: "Indeed, compared to the containment facilities the Special Operations Bureau can arrange, this place is superior in every aspect."

Yu Sheng chuckled, accepting all praise without modesty, then began leading the way while explaining, detailing the camp's prepared areas.

The head of the engineering team accompanying the convoy was a sturdy, reliable middle-aged man. He followed behind Yu Sheng, marveling as he saw the vast central platform and the prepped camp foundations, visibly delighted.

Yu Sheng was still introducing things—this is the teleportation platform, though right now it only has one door; beside it is the vegetable garden, though we'll need to build a greenhouse later; the platform's edge is the chicken area, currently tended by a fox; the camp already has drainage ditches and foundations for generators; the large building at the camp's end can serve as a warehouse; the circular wall in front of the building is a Wengcheng—don't ask why there's a Wengcheng, I already said it's meaningless…

"Hey, this is way better than I expected," the construction supervisor said cheerfully. "When I heard we were building a temporary shelter in a valley, I prepared to lay foundations in the middle of nowhere. I never imagined the construction conditions here would be this good—don't worry, we'll have the basic prefab units and water/power up and running within twelve hours. The kids can move in first; the rest we'll handle gradually."

"Mm," Bai Liqing nodded, then turned to Yu Sheng. "I've already notified the Council. Most of the staff assigned to the orphanage will transfer over—mainly the teachers who directly interact with and care for the children. Until the Dark Angel issue is resolved, they'll live here with the children. Logistics and supply transport will still occur at the warehouse we just came from—you'll have to keep 'opening the door' for us."

"No problem," Yu Sheng nodded happily. "My phone's always on. Just call me when you need the door opened."

After necessary handovers, inspections, and plan confirmations, the Special Operations Bureau's engineering personnel began their tense, busy construction.

Prefabricated units were unloaded from the trucks and assembled on the pre-prepared foundation platforms; generator sets were unloaded to designated areas and began installation and debugging—Yu Sheng was utterly clueless about all this; he watched for a long time without understanding. But Ailin remained enthusiastically interested, sitting on a large rock beside the site, clearly determined to watch until the end of time.

Yu Sheng couldn't help wondering if the tiny doll's intense interest in the construction site stemmed from the fact that her current body was mostly made of stone and rebar…

No error. One sentence. One piece. One content. One look!

At that moment, Bai Liqing walked over.

"Can you take me to see the 'crash site'?"

Yu Sheng wasn't surprised at all. Half the reason this director had come today was precisely to investigate the valley's secrets—and this had been part of their prior agreement, and today was simply the right timing.

"No problem. The structure there has stabilized quite a bit these past few days—it shouldn't keep collapsing," Yu Sheng nodded readily, then turned to Hu Li. "Come with us—you're more familiar with that place."

"I'm not going!" Ailin called from afar, waving her hand without turning around. "I'm staying here to watch them build."

"Got it," Yu Sheng replied offhandedly, but before leaving, he added a reminder: "Don't get too close—watch out for being hit by machinery. Your size makes you a blind spot everywhere on this site."

Ailin immediately bared her teeth in a grimace—but Yu Sheng ignored her.

The so-called "crash site" lay several hundred meters beyond the small forest area, in a sunken slope deep within the valley.

That was the landing point where Hu Li and her family's vessel crashed into this "Nightfall Valley" many years ago.

When the Entity-Hunger was destroyed, the ensuing "feast" nearly reshaped the entire valley, devouring and tearing apart vast sections of the mountain structure. Yet even that feast failed to destroy the main body of the spacecraft named "Xian Suo"—it merely buried it deeper into the mountain and damaged the original support structure beneath the crash site, causing instability across the entire region.

After taking control of the entire valley, Yu Sheng had been slowly repairing the mountain terrain and reinforcing the geological structure around the Xian Suo wreckage. These past few days, he'd moved the wreckage significantly outward from the mountain body; now, most of the debris had detached from the rock layers and rested stably on the slope.

Yu Sheng led Bai Liqing and Song Cheng to the vicinity of the crash site, standing on a solid stone platform, gazing at the slightly curved spacecraft structure.

A hundred-meter-long, streamlined metal wreckage lay quietly within the melted, fractured rock layers. Faint glows occasionally drifted deep within the wreckage; the twisted, deformed hull frame resembled a bony skeleton, hollowly gazing upward at the sky, as if still silently recounting the violent collision from years ago.

"This is the 'Xian Suo' that Hu Li rode," Yu Sheng pointed to the massive wreckage. "There's still a bit of residual energy inside, but according to Hu Li, it's all 'cooling afterglow'—no danger anymore. Still, I don't recommend you go inside… it's unsafe."
