Chapter 341: A Slip of the Hand
After watching Yu Sheng disappear into a suddenly appearing door, Zheng Zhi continued to stare blankly at the empty space nearby, looking quite surprised.
Li Lin, standing beside him, couldn't help but laugh at his expression: "Surprised? Wait until you see what's coming. It's said that once No. 66 Wutong Road moves away, the entire spatial structure of this empty lot will instantly 'flatten.' See those houses around? They'll connect together afterward... Wait! You don't actually see No. 66 Wutong Road, do you?"
Hearing this, Zheng Zhi quickly waved his hands: "That's not it. I'm just curious how Brother Yu's door appeared."
"Oh, that's good, you scared me," Li Lin finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Even the Director can't see that house. If you can... then you'll need to go find Physician Lin to have your brain cut out."
Zheng Zhi turned his head: "Who is Physician Lin?"
"A special physician who cooperates with the Special Operations Bureau, living nearby. He specializes in autopsies and brain cutting—'brain cutting' is the colloquial term; actually, it's just a minor surgery for you. Afterward, it increases your resistance to spiritual energy," Li Lin said casually, but immediately added, "But don't think about that. It's a last resort. After the surgery, you won't see strange things anymore, but you'll drool even when doing simple addition and subtraction within ten."
Zheng Zhi shivered instantly, dared not say anything more, and simply couldn't help but turn his head again to glance at the empty space nearby.
A nearly transparent, massive shadow stood quietly there, confronting him silently like a giant beast squatting on the ground.
The transparency was extremely high; without careful observation, the outline of the shadow was invisible. Zheng Zhi felt this couldn't count as "seeing"—he certainly didn't want to go find a special physician to have his brain cut out.
"Alright, you go back inside and familiarize yourself with those operation manuals. I'll go to the intersection supermarket to buy some things," Li Lin patted Zheng Zhi's shoulder. "No. 66 Wutong Road is gone, so there shouldn't be anything happening here recently. Don't always be so tense—being too nervous makes it easier to encounter weird things."
Zheng Zhi nodded quickly: "Oh, okay."
Li Lin smiled, and as he turned to leave, he muttered to himself: "Ah, finally don't have to go on field duty every day like before..."
Zheng Zhi stood still for a few seconds before turning to walk toward the station hut, but before entering, he couldn't help but look back once more at the massive shadow of No. 66 Wutong Road.
Yu Sheng slightly narrowed his eyes, recalling the "information" he had just recorded on the Cloud-Gazing Platform of Qianfeng Lingshan, and then attempted to convert those coordinates into the new "location" of No. 66 Wutong Road.
This was his first attempt to transfer this house in the real world, and moreover, transferring such a vast distance all at once; to be honest, he felt a bit nervous in his heart.
After all, the Mist City and the Real World City are at most like upstairs and downstairs, but Qianfeng Lingshan and the Borderlands are across different countries.
He gently inhaled, gathered more of his spirit, extended his spirituality, and then instantly completed the assignment—
Outside the living room window, the scenery suddenly changed!
Chaotic and brilliant light and shadow suddenly swirled up like a storm, yet subsided and retreated in an instant that humans could barely react to, as if the entire world outside the window had undergone compression and folding; the distortion and penetration of space vanished in a flash. The next second, the familiar street scenery of the Borderlands disappeared, replaced by a jade-white high platform wreathed in ethereal mist, the rising sea of clouds in the distance, and the layered green peaks amidst the clouds and mist.
Yu Sheng exhaled slightly and let go of the doorknob.
"Done," he said happily, turning to tell Irene who was lying on the windowsill, then pushed the door open and walked out.
Hu Li, Irene, and Luna were standing at the doorway.
A gentle breeze from Xianshan blew against his face; the fresh mountain air refreshed his spirit. Yu Sheng walked cheerfully toward Hu Li: "I've brought our home back. From now on, we can return home from here. You guys... hmm? What are you looking at?"
He stopped abruptly halfway through his sentence because he noticed that Hu Li and the others weren't looking at him, but rather staring with shocked expressions (except for Luna, whose face was stone) in another direction nearby.
Yu Sheng instinctively followed the gaze of the three and looked over, then froze completely.
A small house stood quietly in one corner of the Cloud-Gazing Platform, facing No. 66 Wutong Road from afar. The small house was utterly ordinary, with a sign hanging at the entrance bearing the words "Star Express Wutong Road Collection Point."
Yu Sheng: "...?"
The next second, the door of the express point was pushed open by someone, and Zheng Zhi ran out from inside with a bewildered expression, staring face-to-face with Yu Sheng and the others.
Seeing the other person come out, Irene let out a cry of surprise: "Ah, big nephew!"
Zheng Zhi was even more shocked: "... Where have they brought me?!"
Then all the gazes in the scene fell upon Yu Sheng.
Yu Sheng looked left and right, his mouth twitching: "Why are you looking at me... I don't know what happened either!"
"You don't know? Did you open the door too wide again!" Irene jumped up and bumped her head against Yu Sheng's thigh. "Stop always improvising, okay!"
At this moment, Zheng Zhi also walked over tremblingly, glancing around as he walked. The immortal mountains, auspicious clouds, pavilions, and towers in his sight left him stunned. Only when he reached Yu Sheng did he finally speak: "Brother Yu, this..."
"Qianfeng Lingshan," Yu Sheng felt his facial muscles stiffening slightly. "I might have used too much force when moving."
Zheng Zhi: "..."
"Where is Li Lin?" Yu Sheng glanced again at the small house nearby and asked curiously.
Zheng Zhi: "Brother Li said he was going to the supermarket to buy things. He had just left when I moved here along with the station."
Yu Sheng opened his mouth, and just as he was about to say something else, a beam of rosy light flying from the distance interrupted his action.
The rosy light landed, and Xuan Che and Yuan Ling Zhenren transformed into human form.
Yuan Ling Zhenren's face was full of smiles: "From afar, I saw spiritual light rising on the Cloud-Gazing Platform. I assumed you had moved here, so I came to check on the situ..."
The Zhenren stopped abruptly halfway through his sentence, looking at the Cloud-Gazing Platform with an unusual expression.
The Cloud-Gazing Platform had expanded by more than double. A spatial dislocation effect, imperceptible to ordinary people but clearly felt by him, had "extended" a large area of space on this high platform. However, the central area of the spatial expansion was completely empty; no matter how one looked, it was just an empty lot. Instead, a seemingly inconspicuous small house had appeared in the corner of the Cloud-Gazing Platform, with a sign for an express collection point hanging on it...
No matter how one looked at it, that small house could not possibly be No. 66 Wutong Road.
Yuan Ling Zhenren withdrew his gaze and noticed a young man with a completely unfamiliar face standing beside Yu Sheng.
He glanced up and down for a moment and realized this young man was truly a human—flesh and blood, spirit and form, from inside to out, a particularly standard... ah, a human.
The old man felt greatly astonished: "This person is..."
At this moment, cold sweat was practically spraying out of Zheng Zhi. As a temporary worker of the Special Operations Bureau who didn't even count as a formal agent (and hadn't passed probation), where had he ever seen such a scene? When he opened his mouth, he felt his back teeth cramping: "I... I..."
Before he could get anything out after saying "I" halfway, Irene, seeing his distress, simply shouted for him: "Gate security guard!"
Yuan Ling Zhenren paused, then looked up again at the express collection point nearby.
Irene reacted even faster this time: "Security booth!"
"Actually, he's a sentry assigned to me by the Special Operations Bureau... uh, and also a friend of mine privately," Yu Sheng said somewhat awkwardly. Not knowing how to explain the situation of moving his house and bringing along their sentry post, he could only mumble along with Irene's words. "That house is a sentry post of the Special Operations Bureau, usually disguised as an express collection point."
"Yes," Zheng Zhi also realized it at this moment and quickly nodded along. "Our captain assigned me to stand guard for Brother Yu."
"Oh, I see," Yuan Ling Zhenren stroked his beard, looking as if he didn't think much of it, and simply nodded to Yu Sheng. "Since he is your friend, then he is also a guest of my Qianfeng Lingshan. A welcome banquet has been set in the Immortal Feast Hall. Come with me."
Hu Li's eyes immediately lit up: "We're going to eat?!"
"Yes, eating," Yu Sheng, seeing that no one was pursuing the matter of him moving the Special Operations Bureau's sentry post, quickly changed the subject. "Let's go, let's go, eat first, eat first. Moving house has actually made me hungry..."
Zheng Zhi seemed to want to say something more, but before he could open his mouth, Yu Sheng pulled him over, and they stepped onto the stone path leading away from the Cloud-Gazing Platform...
Deep within Wutong Road, beside the "original coordinates of No. 66 Wutong Road," which had now become a narrow corner at the end of the alley, Li Lin stood dazedly in the corner of the wall, holding a supermarket shopping bag.
He looked at the alley corner in front of him, then turned back to look at the slightly dissonant small empty space behind him, and stood there pondering life.
Where's my workstation. jpg?
I just went to the supermarket to buy something; how did I turn around and come back to find even my workstation gone?!
Clutching the plastic bag, he spun in place twice; confirming it wasn't his eyesight failing but that the entire "Outpost" had truly vanished, Li Lin finally twitched the corner of his mouth, fished his phone out of his pocket, and dialed his superior.
"Captain, it's Li Lin... uh, no, Zheng Zhi didn't run into any trouble, nor can you say he didn't; the person is gone. Ah, don't panic yet; the Outpost is gone too..."
A single "What?!" came through the phone from the other end, possessing extremely strong penetrating power.
"I don't know what happened either," Li Lin said into the phone, looking as if he wanted to cry but had no tears. "I just went to buy something, and when I came back, the Outpost was gone... No. 66 Wutong Road is gone too..."
In a short while, Song Cheng, burning with anxiety, arrived at Wutong Road via a "Shortcut."
The two men stared at each other in blank dismay.
Moments later, Song Cheng began making phone calls.
"I've found out," Song Cheng said, lifting his head and looking at Li Lin with a subtle expression. "It was packed up and moved away by Yu Sheng."
"Why?" Li Lin asked, his face a mask of bewilderment.
"He said his hand slipped," Song Cheng replied, feeling a toothache of sorts. "Just like last time when he dragged you all into the Nightfall Valley—the difference is that this time you kid escaped disaster; only Zheng Zhi got dragged over."
Li Lin remained stunned for a long while before finally speaking: "Then what do we do? What about my work report..."
"What else can we do? Force majeure, I suppose," Song Cheng sighed, patting Li Lin on the shoulder. "Alright, come back to the bureau with me; we happen to have a new mission. Until No. 66 Wutong Road returns, you'll just continue going on field duties with me."
Li Lin: "..."
