Chapter 50: Hu Li's Assist
All the black spider threads tightened simultaneously in an instant; the massive flesh beast let out a series of muffled, grating roars. Yu Guang struggled with all her might to control those pitch-black threads, making them constantly change their weaving direction in midair, forming pulling ropes to drag the monster bit by bit toward the great door.
Yu Sheng, meanwhile, desperately held open that great door, which was wider than ever before, striving to make it even wider and more stable.
A "Door" possesses the property of isolating the internal and external environments; merely opening a door cannot directly "release" the harsh environment on the other side into this side. To burn this monster to death, it must be thrown inside entirely.
Under normal circumstances, this isolation property is, of course, a good thing; it prevents Yu Sheng from triggering catastrophic accidents when accidentally opening a passage to a dangerous area. But at this moment, Yu Sheng truly wished this door could fuse the environments on both sides together without any protective measures.
That way, he could open the door directly in the lava lake, and the magma gushing from the great door would roast the monster instantly, saving him such great effort.
But he could only think such thoughts—for the power of the "Door," he had only just grasped it up to now. Ensuring the door opened in the correct position was already no small feat; it was truly impossible to expect to use it as a flexible and varied offensive means.
As his thoughts raced, the monster had already been dragged to the great door; even parts of its limb extremities had been forcibly squeezed into the door. Through the great door, Yu Sheng saw that the limbs crossing the doorframe were quickly dried of moisture, then rapidly ignited and carbonized in the hellish high temperatures...
In a daze, he even felt his own limbs burning.
And the flesh beast's struggle instantly became nearly mad—even "Hunger," which acted purely on instinct, felt immense danger and fear at this moment. All its limbs trembled violently in the spider web, and countless cracks split open on its body. Eyes, mouths, sharp teeth, and tentacles of all sizes, even mimetic structures resembling human facial features and limbs, all burst forth at once!
From its grotesque, twisted giant mouths came even more grating roars. The roar, so close at hand, made Yu Sheng's ears ring; even a storm of noise like mountains calling and seas surging rose in his thoughts. He felt dizzy, yet he still gripped the handle of the illusory door tightly, watching the giant beast be stuffed bit by bit into that passage leading to hell.
However, just then, he heard a series of unsettling cracking sounds.
Yu Sheng suddenly raised his head, looking toward the direction from which the cracking sounds came.
What broke was not Yu Guang's threads—the little doll had this time thrown everything she had; not a single chain link was lost.
What broke was the flesh and twisted limbs on the monster's body surface.
It began to slowly tear itself free from the spider web in midair, tearing its own body into four pieces and five parts, covered in blood and flesh. It seemed to feel no pain at all; those severely restrained limbs were even torn entirely off its body, and then new limbs grew from the flesh, clinging to nearby rocks and accelerating its escape speed.
It had nearly become a shapeless, flowing mass of flesh and blood, rapidly deforming and rapidly "leaking" through the gaps in the spider threads.
It was adapting to Yu Guang's spider web; it was learning a new physiological structure.
"Can't hold it!" Yu Guang's scream came from not far away. "My body can't hold up either! Think of something, Yu Sheng!"
Yu Sheng turned his head and saw fine cracks rapidly appearing on Yu Guang's arms and cheeks; the doll's body was gradually cracking apart.
"Damn it!"
He couldn't help but curse under his breath, so he held the great door with one hand while trying to grab the monster about to break free with the other.
However, just the next second, a whistling wind suddenly came to his ears, and in the wind was mixed... a wolf howl.
A wolf howl?
Yu Sheng looked up in astonishment and saw shadows suddenly streak across the night sky. Wolf-like silhouettes formed from the shadows; a pack of wolves howled and ran in the air, then one after another crashed into that monster, or tore at its flesh, slowing its deformation and wriggling process.
Immediately after, Yu Sheng heard a loud shout from behind, the voice deep and powerful: "I am here to assist you!"
In the next instant, he saw a figure nearly two meters tall rush forward from behind like a wild wind; a flying kick in midair smashed into the monster like a huge boulder, producing a dull thud.
The flesh giant beast's body uncontrollably "fell" toward the great door; its frantic struggle, deformation, and roaring could no longer delay this process.
The burly man who had flown in kicked, leaped in midair, turned, landed gracefully, and turned his head to look at Yu Sheng: "Luckily I made it..."
He saw Yu Sheng's face.
The burly man's expression instantly turned to astonishment; shock filled his eyes, and his whole body was as if struck by lightning.
His whole being radiated a desolation like being screwed over by a stupid leader and transferred from one front line to another front line during a leave.
Yu Sheng, however, did not know why the burly man's expression became so rich immediately after seeing him, nor did he have the energy to think about this matter, because he discovered that the flesh giant beast was struggling once again. Even though half its body had already been pushed into the great door and burned to charcoal, the remaining half was still firmly stuck at the door's edge and had begun rapid regeneration.
Some inexplicable connection made Yu Sheng feel... anger, and hatred.
In those trembling eyes, primitive "emotions" and the faint light of thought began to appear. The nameless burly man also sensed the commotion beside him, hurriedly looked up, and immediately cried out in shock: "Damn! This thing can still resist!"
Immediately after came Yu Guang's scream: "It's snapping!"
The doll's arms were covered in cracks; the pitch-black threads snapped inch by inch in the blink of an eye. The spider web let out a series of sharp explosions, then instantly broke and scattered.
The giant beast was free.
However, just as Yu Sheng felt the situation was lost and was about to call on others to run quickly, a burst of dazzling blue fire suddenly erupted in the corner of his eye.
Hu Li, who had been hiding behind a nearby wall crenellation, had somehow mustered the courage to run out at some point. She glared fiercely at the monster struggling before the great door, her whole body crouched on the ground like a wild beast. Her silver-white fox tails spread out in the night sky, and vast amounts of blue spiritual fire burned fiercely at the end of every tail.
The fox-girl let out a low growl from her throat.
Almost at the same time, pitch-black spikes and bone fragments burst forth from her limbs and body, pinning her to the ground.
Seeing this, Yu Sheng shouted anxiously: "Don't worry about this..."
However, before he could finish shouting, he saw Hu Li, crouched on all fours, forcibly take a step forward, snapping those cone-like restraints, then suddenly adjust her posture—
Fox fire exploded; a burst of dazzling light suddenly cut through the darkness. From behind the silver-white cone, dark blue flames gushed forth, shooting toward the flesh giant beast struggling to break free from the great door like a rocket.
Boom!
Yu Sheng had no time to see what that thing was before a burst of fierce light exploded on the giant beast's back. Even though the subsequent explosion was deliberately contained by Hu Li, Yu Sheng, who was so close, felt his bones nearly shattered by the explosion sound—and the monster directly hit by that silver-white cone instantly lost its balance. The flesh giant beast, already on the verge of its limit, stumbled twice before finally falling completely into the great door.
Amidst the rapidly receding roars, Yu Sheng suddenly released his control over the great door.
The illusory door vanished in the blink of an eye.
Silence fell upon the ruined temple; this sudden arrival of silence was even somewhat unreal.
Yu Guang sat directly on the ground; her cracked arms were too weak to lift.
A red-clothed girl riding on the back of a phantom wolf walked in from outside the ruins, her face bearing an expression of shock. Beside the girl walked a black-haired young man who looked ordinary in appearance.
That young man saw Yu Sheng from afar; his expression suddenly froze, as if recalling something, and his eyebrows gradually furrowed.
The burly man, nearly two meters tall, stared with wide eyes at the direction where the great door had disappeared, seemingly lost in astonishment and thought.
Yu Sheng, however, did not bother to greet these few "temporary comrades" who had appeared out of nowhere; instead, he immediately turned his head to look toward Hu Li's direction.
The fox-girl was struggling to get up from the ground; the fox fire behind her was obviously much dimmer, but she was still alive.
Yu Sheng paused: So what was that thing that flew over just now? Wasn't it a headbutt?
Immediately after, he noticed that one of the tails behind Hu Li seemed to be missing.
Yu Sheng: "..."
So what did this Miss just fire off?!
And it can be used like that?!
Yu Sheng's shock was beyond words; the moment he realized the silver-white cone that had shot out in blue flames was actually Hu Li's tail, he was utterly stunned, and this daze for a moment overwhelmed his excitement at defeating a powerful enemy.
He knew nothing of immortal arts or demon techniques, but instinct told him that no matter what kind of immortal art or demon technique existed, none should include "a nine-tailed fox can launch its own tail as a missile"...
Hu Li, however, did not know what caused the fleeting expression on her benefactor's face; she only struggled to her feet, the wounds on her body pierced by black bone spikes having vanished completely at some point. She stumbled toward Yu Sheng, her face etched with urgency: "Benefactor..."
Yu Sheng quickly reached out to support the fox girl who could no longer stand: "Rest for a while first..."
Hu Li urgently cut off Yu Sheng's words: "We can't rest, Benefactor, it's not over yet!"
Yu Sheng was instantly stunned.
