Chapter 44: Singing a Duet

~8 min read 1,427 words

Jiang Feng slightly frowned: "Do you know the reason, Hua Lao?"

Hua Jing sighed.

"I asked for the reason but they wouldn't say, just said they received a notice from above: anyone who dares to supply us will have their business cut off."

Jiang Feng's complexion instantly darkened.

No need to think, it must be Yang Wencheng causing trouble!

I originally thought Yang Wencheng was just talking, didn't expect him to act so quickly.

"Hua Lao, please don't worry."

Jiang Feng calmly said: "I'll handle it right away and guarantee tomorrow's appointments won't be delayed."

After hanging up, Jiang Feng turned his head and saw Su Xueyan looking at him with a worried expression.

"What's wrong? Is something happening at the Medical Hall?"

"Hmm, the medicinal material supplier has cut off supply; it must be Yang Wencheng's revenge."

Jiang Feng leaned against the car and briefly explained the conflict with Yang Wencheng.

"He has the backing of the Li Family; in Jiangcheng's medicinal material market, the Li Family's word carries more weight than anyone's, and now no one dares to supply us."

"It must be Li Kun who gave the signal."

Su Xueyan immediately understood the inner connections.

"The Li Family's status in Jiangcheng's medicinal material market is unparalleled; aside from them, no one has the ability to make all suppliers cut off supply simultaneously."

She tugged Jiang Feng's arm.

"How about I call Grandfather? Let him speak on our behalf; maybe we can restore the supply."

Jiang Feng, however, shook his head.

"No need to trouble Old Master Su. This is my matter; I'll go talk to Li Kun myself. Moreover, since Li Kun has made a move, even if Old Master Su steps in, he might not show any courtesy."

Su Xueyan paused, then recalled the incident at the Jiangcheng Chamber of Commerce banquet where Li Kun and the Zhao Family teamed up against the Su Family.

Indeed, the Su Family stepping in might not help Jiang Feng and could make things more complicated.

"But if you go yourself, how will you talk to him?"

Su Xueyan still felt uneasy.

"Li Kun is especially arrogant; last time he asked a favor of you, now that you approach him, he might not even see you."

"Whether he sees you or not, you'll only know when you go."

Jiang Feng smiled and patted Su Xueyan's shoulder.

"You get in the car first; I'll take you home, then go to the Li Family. Rest assured, I have a way to get Li Kun to restore the supply."

Su Xueyan wanted to say more, but seeing Jiang Feng's determined gaze, she swallowed her words.

After dropping Su Xueyan at the entrance of Su Jia Xiaoqu, Jiang Feng watched her enter, then turned the car around and headed toward the Li Family old mansion.

The Li Family old mansion is situated on a mid‑mountain slope in the outskirts of Jiangcheng, a stately Chinese‑style villa.

Two security guards in black suits stand at the gate.

As soon as Jiang Feng parked the car at the gate, a guard hurried over.

"Hey! What are you doing? This is the Li Family old mansion, not a place you can just walk into; get out quickly!"

"I'm looking for Li Kun."

Jiang Feng's tone was flat; he didn't argue with the guard.

"What did you say?"

The guard, as if he had heard the biggest joke, pointed at Jiang Feng's nose and cursed.

"You don't even look at your own conduct! You think you can address the Li Family Head by name? Get out now! If you don't leave, I'll have someone drag you away!"

Another guard came over, holding a rubber baton.

"Kid, if you have any sense, drive away quickly; don't look for trouble here! The Li Family's gate is not something a pauper like you can step on!"

Jiang Feng frowned, his gaze turning cold.

"I'll say it again: I'm looking for Li Kun with legitimate business. If you won't let me in, call Li Kun and tell him Jiang Feng is here; if he refuses to see me, I'll leave on my own."

"You still dare to call the Family Head? Do you think you're worthy?"

The guard with the rubber baton stepped forward, about to smash Jiang Feng's car door.

"I think you're deliberately picking a fight! If I don't give you a taste of color today, you won't know how powerful the Li Family is!"

Jiang Feng frowned, about to speak, when a shout rang from behind.

"What are you two doing? Can't you see? Even Mr. Jiang is someone you can stop?"

The two guards froze, turned and saw a Bentley pulling up, its window lowered, revealing Li Ao's face.

"Third, Third Master!"

The guard quickly put away the rubber baton, bowed and explained.

"This kid is trying to force his way in, even calling the Family Head by name, we…"

"Shut up!"

Li Ao pushed open the car door, stepped out quickly, and walked to Jiang Feng's car.

"Mr. Jiang, sorry. These two lack any sense of propriety; please don't stoop to their level."

He turned his head, glared at the guards, his voice deeper: "Do you know that Mr. Jiang is the life‑saving benefactor of my elder brother? How dare you be rude to Mr. Jiang, is it because you don't want to work?"

The two guards finally reacted, their faces turning pale instantly, and hurriedly bowed to Jiang Feng.

"Mr. Jiang! I'm sorry! We failed to recognize the greatness before us; you are a person of great stature, please don't hold this against us!"

Jiang Feng wasn't interested in arguing with the two minor guards, and said to Li Ao: "I want to see Family Head Li Kun…"

Li Ao quickly replied: "Please, go ahead!"

Jiang Feng only then got off the carriage and followed Li Ao into the Li family old mansion.

When they reached the study's doorway, Li Ao knocked on the door.

"Big brother, Mr. Jiang has arrived."

The main gate swung open; Li Kun was chatting with Yang Wencheng about something, and when the latter saw Jiang Feng, he let out a cold snort and turned his head away.

"Mr. Jiang, a rare guest!"

Li Kun immediately stood up, a smile plastered on his face, and hurried over.

"At the last Su family banquet you intervened; my back is much better now, and I haven't properly thanked you yet! Sit down, sit down!"

Jiang Feng didn't shake his hand, merely nodded: "Li Lao, you are too courteous; a simple favor, hardly worth mentioning."

"I wonder what Mr. Jiang is here for today?"

Li Kun pretended not to know what had happened, asking with a beaming smile.

Jiang Feng said calmly, "I came to discuss the supply of medicinal materials for Ji Shi Tang with you."

"Ji Shi Tang?"

Li Kun seemed even more bewildered.

"Does this Ji Shi Tang have anything to do with you, Mr. Jiang?"

"Ji Shi Tang is now my Medical Hall, but because I offended Doctor Yang, all the city's medicine merchants have stopped supplying Ji Shi Tang."

At those words, Li Kun turned his head and glared at Yang Wencheng, his tone instantly dropping.

"Doctor Yang! Is that true? Jiang Xiaoyou is a benefactor of my Li family; aren't you slapping me in the face?"

Yang Wencheng's expression turned pale and then flushed in an instant.

He quickly lowered his head and said to Jiang Feng.

"Sorry, Mr. Jiang, it was my mistake."

Li Kun still didn't spare Yang Wencheng, continuing to scold him.

"If you dare pull this again, Doctor Yang, you won't work for our Li family any more; our Li family can't accommodate a great Buddha like you..."

He smiled brightly at Jiang Feng, then laughed again.

"But getting back to the point, since Doctor Jiang wants to open a Medical Hall, why not cooperate? If you agree, I'll immediately have all suppliers resume supplying Ji Shi Tang, and from then on your medicinal materials will be fully covered by the Li family, with prices thirty percent lower than others. What do you think?"

Jiang Feng gave a faint smile; he had long seen through Li Kun's double act with Yang Wencheng.

Nevertheless, he pretended not to know and asked, "I wonder how the Li family intends to cooperate?"

Li Kun gave a faint smile.

"Very simple: Mr. Jiang can become our Li family's Chief Consultant Physician; thereafter, wherever in Jiangcheng the Li family's Medical Hall is, Mr. Jiang may hold consultations..."
