Chapter 545: Since you're here, don't leave!
Jiang Feng showed a faint cold smile; he wasn't slow to arrive.
It seems this guy is even less able to hold his composure than he imagined.
But Jiang Feng didn't startle the snake; he restrained his aura, pretended not to notice anything, and knocked on the door.
Dong, dong, dong.
The knocking echoed loudly in the quiet alley.
After a moment, the door opened.
The man who opened the door was in his thirties, wearing a faded white shirt, dark trousers, and slippers.
His hair was somewhat disheveled, and deep dark circles shadowed his eyes, as if he hadn't slept well in a long time.
Seeing Jiang Feng, the man blinked, sized him up, quickly reacted, and forced a smile.
"Are you Doctor Jiang? I'm Rui Rui's dad. My wife brought the child to your Medical Hall today, saying you might come tonight—really sorry to trouble you."
The man was very courteous, his voice loud, as if deliberately trying to seem enthusiastic.
He stepped aside, making an inviting gesture.
"Doctor Jiang, please come in, please come in."
Jiang Feng nodded and stepped inside.
The house is small, an old one-room-one-hall layout, with a living room of just over ten square meters.
The décor is plain: white-painted walls, some paint peeled to reveal concrete; the tiled floor has a few cracks.
An old sofa sits in the living room, its leather worn shiny, covered with a bleached-white cloth.
An old TV sits in the corner, still playing the news at low volume.
A faint herbal scent drifts from the inner room; likely Rui Rui is taking a bath.
Jiang Feng sat on the sofa, his gaze sweeping the room before settling on the man.
The man stood to the side, rubbing his hands, looking uneasy.
"Doctor Jiang, would you like some tea? I'll pour you a cup."
Jiang Feng waved his hand.
"No need. Sit down; I have something to say."
The man hesitated, then sat opposite Jiang Feng.
He sat on the edge of the sofa, leaning slightly forward, hands on his knees, fingers unconsciously rubbing.
Jiang Feng looked at the man and said lightly.
"You know about Rui Rui's condition, right?"
Hearing this, the man blinked, his eyes flickered, and he forced an unnatural smile.
He seemed completely unsurprised, even deliberately shifting the topic, his tone turning casual.
"I think it might not be that serious."
He paused, then continued.
"We're just ordinary people; what you say sounds too supernatural—things like Curse of Grudge we've never heard of. Maybe the child's just weak, low immunity; taking some medicine will fix it."
The man's voice was loud, as if trying to convince himself—and Jiang Feng.
"Still, thank you very much for prescribing the medicine and coming in person. Rest assured, we'll give the child the medicine on time."
After speaking, he still forced a smile, but it looked fake no matter how you looked at it.
Jiang Feng looked at him, his expression calm, but his eyes grew colder.
He didn't respond to the man's words; instead he sat down, crossed his legs, and stared directly into the man's eyes.
Then he spoke lightly.
"So, you don't intend to vent this anger for your daughter?"
The man's smile froze.
Jiang Feng continued, his tone becoming more direct.
"Do you know who attacked Rui Rui?"
As soon as he said that, the man's face instantly changed.
His pupils contracted sharply, his mouth opened as if to speak, but his throat felt blocked and he couldn't make a sound.
His hand unconsciously clenched the pants on his knee, knuckles whitening; his whole body froze there like a statue.
After a few seconds, he finally came to his senses, somewhat stiffly addressing Jiang Feng.
"Mr. Jiang, what are you saying? I'm Rui Rui's biological father!"
The man's voice rose a bit, carrying some agitation.
"It's not that I don't want to believe you; it's that what you're saying is pure fantasy. Things like Curse of Grudge, cultivators—I've never heard of them. I'm just an ordinary worker, going to and from work every day; who could I have offended?"
As he spoke, his voice lowered again, as if talking to himself.
"You might have misjudged; the child just has an ordinary stomachache, not as serious as you say."
Jiang Feng looked at him, shook his head, his tone carrying a hint of disappointment.
"Do you think that by pretending not to know, nothing happened? Will those people let you off?"
The man's body shuddered violently, his face turning deathly pale.
Jiang Feng continued, his voice becoming even colder and harder.
"You also said you're Rui Rui's biological father. How can there be a father like you in this world?"
As soon as he said that, Rui Rui's dad's face instantly turned ashen.
His lips trembled, his eyes flickered; his whole body felt as if struck in a vital spot, painful enough to render him speechless.
He glanced guiltily inside; the inner room's door was closed, Rui Rui was still bathing, and the beautiful woman should be keeping her company.
He gritted his teeth, turned his head, looked at Jiang Feng, and his eyes turned fierce.
"Mr. Jiang, this matter has nothing to do with you!"
The man's voice was loud, carrying a hint of hysteria, as if he wanted to shout out all his fear.
His eyes stared wide, the veins on his forehead bulged, and his whole body resembled a wild beast driven to a dead end.
Jiang Feng looked at him, his expression calm, his gaze without any fluctuation.
He didn't speak, didn't move, just sat silently on the sofa, quietly watching the man.
At the moment the man's words fell, the indoor temperature suddenly dropped.
That yin energy surged in from all directions!
The yin energy grew thicker and heavier, like solidified mist, spreading throughout the living room.
Water droplets on the wall condensed and flowed down the wall. A layer of white frost covered the glass window; the moonlight outside shone through the frost, becoming hazy and eerie.
The man's face turned as white as paper, his body began to tremble violently.
His teeth chattered, making a clacking sound, his whole body felt as if thrown into an ice cellar.
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but his throat felt as if something were choking it, and he couldn't make a sound.
Jiang Feng remained seated on the sofa, motionless.
His eyes narrowed slightly as he looked toward the corner of the living room.
There, a shadow writhed.
It was not a human shadow, but an indescribable thing, like black mist condensed into form.
It had no fixed shape, sometimes stretching, sometimes contracting, like a twisted snake.
The shadow crept slowly along the wall, crawling toward the inner room.
That was the room where Rui Rui took her bath.
Jiang Feng's gaze turned cold.
He finally moved.
He stood up, took a step forward, and positioned himself between the shadow and the inner room.
"Since you've come, don't leave!"
