Chapter 575: Summon the Imperial Guard!

~9 min read 1,612 words

Awake!

Cloud Master, you finally woke up!

The first to react was, astonishingly, the young Emperor.

He disregarded imperial decorum, hurried forward, and, excitedly, lunged in front of General Yun, gripping the old man's hands tightly with both hands.

His eye sockets were blood‑red, Tears swirled within them, and his voice was somewhat choked.

At this moment, how could he still possess any of the Emperor's authority?

He was completely like a child, lying at the bedside of the old man.

General Yun had just regained consciousness and was still a bit Dazed.

His gaze was somewhat vague, Pupils scattered, as if he had just had a long Dream.

He stared at the ceiling, at the shadowless lamp above, at the surrounding Doctors in surgical gowns, and for a moment could not process anything.

Nevertheless, he immediately recognized the Emperor.

That young face, those eyes full of worry, he could not mistake.

General Yun instantly gave a weak smile, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly, revealing a pale Laughter.

He had just regained consciousness, and his speech was still somewhat exhausted, his voice hoarse and weak.

"Old servant was disloyal, causing you worry..."

His voice was very light, as light as a wisp of wind, yet each word entered the ears of everyone present with Clarity.

The Emperor's Tears finally could not be held back and fell.

He said nothing, but shook his head forcefully, gripping the old man's hand tightly, as if fearing he would disappear again.

Few of those present knew that General Yun, when he was still in the Eastern Palace, had personally taught him military theory.

At that time the Emperor was still a teenage boy, while General Yun was already a white‑haired old General.

General Yun taught him map‑reading hand‑in‑hand, taught him to analyze battle situations, taught him how to arrange troops, taught him how to employ people.

In those years, what the Emperor learned from General Yun was not only military knowledge, but also the way of ruling a sovereign and the way of being a person.

Therefore, all along, this young Emperor privately addressed General Yun as Cloud Master.

The bond between them was far deeper than any ruler‑subject relationship.

This time General Yun was attacked, and the Emperor immediately mobilized almost all Grandmaster Physicians from the National Medical Hall and Imperial Medical Office, sparing no expense to rescue him.

In fact, although General Yun was the top figure of the military, he still did not merit such treatment. All of this was because the Emperor's personal feelings toward General Yun.

He could not lose this mentor.

Seeing the ruler and subject gaze at each other, Jiang Feng could not help but interject.

"Emperor, General Yun is still recovering from a severe injury and needs rest. Perhaps you should step aside and let General Yun rest properly."

The Emperor then seemed to have a great revelation, quickly released General Yun's hand, and stood up.

He turned, looked at Jiang Feng, his gaze full of gratitude and admiration.

"Do you know the Divine Doctor Gao's full name? You saved Cloud Master; you are a meritorious subject of the Empire, and I shall reward you greatly!"

His voice was loud and firm, not a courtesy but sincere.

Jiang Feng, however, gave a carefree smile, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly, revealing a faint Laughter.

"I, Jiang Feng, acted only at a friend's request; there is no need for any reward."

His tone was casual, as if speaking of something ordinary.

It seemed as if he had saved not the Grand Commander of the Military, but an ordinary old man.

Then, Jiang Feng stepped back half a step, offered no bow, turned his head and instructed Sun Dansheng.

"Although General Yun has recovered from his injury, his Qi and blood are insufficient; how to replenish them, Old Sun, you should know. Please!"

His voice was flat, yet his Tone carried an unquestionable trust.

Sun Dansheng hurriedly nodded, his aged face full of solemnity.

"Jiang Xiaoyou, rest assured, Old brother will personally brew the Decoction to quickly help General Yun restore his Qi and blood. Old brother has practiced medicine for decades; this I can manage."

Jiang Feng nodded at Sun Dansheng, then turned, without looking back, and walked toward the surgery room doorway.

The surgery room door opened, and his silhouette vanished at the entrance.

Zhao Zhongmou stood in the corner, watching Jiang Feng's departing silhouette, his gaze full of jealousy.

His hand clenched tightly, knuckles white, lips trembling.

"Saving General Yun, so what? Daring to disrespect the Emperor is also a grave crime!"

He couldn't help muttering, his voice low, yet in the quiet surgery room everyone heard it clearly.

He thought someone would agree, at least someone would nod.

But when he said that, the people from the National Medical Hall and Imperial Medical Office around him merely rolled their eyes at him; no one echoed his words.

Qi Min snorted coldly, turned her head away, too lazy to look at him.

The other Doctors bowed their heads even lower, pretending not to have heard anything.

Zhao Zhongmou made a fool of himself, his face dusty and gray, his complexion flashing red then white.

He gritted his teeth, turned, and also walked out of the surgery room.

In the corridor outside the surgery room, the lights shone brightly.

Yun Mengrou stood at the doorway, hands clasped, anxiously waiting.

Her complexion was pale, eyes swollen and red, lips pressed tightly, fingers constantly twisting together.

She did not know what was happening inside; she only knew that her grandfather's fate was uncertain, and Jiang Feng was desperately saving lives inside.

She dared not enter, fearing to disturb the treatment.

She also dared not leave, fearing she would hear bad news.

She could only stand there and wait.

Every minute and second felt as long as a century.

Then, the operating room door opened.

Jiang Feng walked out.

Yun Mengrou's eyes brightened, and she hurried forward, asking anxiously.

"Jiang Feng, how is Grandfather? He… is he okay?"

Her voice trembled, and tears swirled in her eye sockets.

"I shall not disgrace my duty, Yun Lao…"

Jiang Feng was about to answer when his expression suddenly changed.

His pupils contracted sharply, his body tensed instinctively, and a strong sense of danger surged in his mind.

His perception caught an extremely faint murderous intent, like a needle tip, stabbing in from outside the window at the far end of the corridor.

It's a sniper!

Jiang Feng shouted.

"Watch out!"

In the next instant, he pulled Yun Mengrou into his arms, and the two of them instantly twisted their bodies!

Their bodies rotated half a circle in the air; Jiang Feng, still holding Yun Mengrou, fell to the ground and rolled behind the corridor's corner.

As Jiang Feng and Yun Mengrou flashed by, a bullet suddenly struck the spot where Yun Mengrou had just been standing, embedding into the floor!

Poof!

The bullet pierced the marble floor, scattering shards of stone, leaving a finger‑wide hole that still smoked.

If Jiang Feng had been a second slower, the bullet would have gone through Yun Mengrou's body.

The corridor erupted into chaos instantly.

"An assassin!"

"Protect Miss Yun!"

"Seal off the entire building!"

The operating room door was shoved open violently.

The Emperor rushed out, his face ashen, his eyes full of anger.

"What happened?"

His voice was loud, carrying undeniable authority.

A guard captain hurried forward to report.

"Your Majesty, there's a sniper! Shots fired from a window of the opposite building! The target appears to be Miss Yun!"

The Emperor's gaze hardened, murderous aura looming.

"Seal off the whole area; the living must be seen, the dead must be seen! I will see who has the courage of a bear's heart and a leopard's gall, daring to commit murder in the Military Department General Hospital!"

The guard captain promptly took the order and led his men out.

Yun Haitao also rushed out from behind, his face deathly pale, veins bulging on his forehead.

He had just heard the gunshot, seen his daughter knocked down, and his heart rose to his throat.

"How dare you! Who dares to lay a hand on a member of the Yun family!"

His eyes burned with fury, like an enraged male lion.

He hurried to Yun Mengrou's side, crouched, and asked anxiously.

"Rou Er, are you okay? Any injuries?"

Yun Mengrou lay in Jiang Feng's arms, trembling all over, her face pallid. She shook her head, her voice shaking.

"I… I'm fine. It was Jiang Feng who saved me."

Yun Haitao turned his head, looked at Jiang Feng, his eyes full of gratitude.

"Divine Doctor Jiang, thank you for saving Rou Er."

Jiang Feng scrambled up from the ground, brushed dust off himself, his expression calm.

"No need, it's just a minor matter…"

Yun Haitao stood up, stared at the bullet hole at the far end of the corridor, his eyes brimming with murderous intent.

"Investigate! Find out for me! Whoever it is, bring them out!"

His voice was loud, bearing an unquestionable command.

The guards promptly responded, scattering.

The Emperor walked up to Jiang Feng, looked at him, his eyes filled with complexity.

"Divine Doctor Jiang, are you okay?"

Jiang Feng shook his head.

"I'm fine."

The Emperor nodded, saying nothing more.

He turned around and instructed those beside him.

"Strengthen the First Brigade of the Imperial Guard to completely encircle the Military Department General Hospital, protect Commander Yun and Miss Yun. Not a single fly may be allowed inside!"

Whoa!

As soon as those words were spoken, everyone present widened their eyes again!
