Chapter 602
Jiang Feng didn't know how long he had stayed Here.
Here, time seemed to become very Obscurity.
His body had pretty much Recovery.
The man's medicinal soup taken Three Times a day had a great effect; he could feel his body growing stronger day by day.
But that feeling of being excluded remained all the time.
He had become Habit, but Habit did not mean comfort.
His daily life was very simple.
After waking up, he would walk by the lake, watch that man fish, watch Lu Wu eating those strange weird fish, then return to the thatched hut to sit and stare blankly.
He had tried to talk more with that man, but the man remained the same, not answering any questions; an occasional grunt was considered giving face.
Jiang Feng also gave up.
He didn't know where he could go, nor what he should do.
He didn't even know who he was; thinking more wouldn't help.
That day, Jiang Feng was taking his usual walk by the lake, having completed a lap and preparing to return to the thatched hut to rest, when the man suddenly put away his fishing rod.
This was the first time Jiang Feng had ever seen that happen.
In his memory, that man seemed to have grown out of that rock, fishing from morning till night, never seen voluntarily putting away his rod.
The man stood up and glanced at Jiang Feng.
"Follow me."
Having said that, he turned and walked away.
His steps weren't large, but he moved quickly.
Jiang Feng froze for a moment, then hurriedly followed.
The man walked left along the lakeshore, stopping only when he reached the base of the massive cliff.
He stood there, looking up at the cliff that seemed to have no top.
Jiang Feng walked to his side, also looked up, and felt a vague unease.
As expected, the man spoke.
"Climb up."
His tone was very flat, as if stating something very simple.
Jiang Feng was stunned.
He turned his head to look at the man, then at the cliff, then back at the man, confirming he hadn't misheard.
"What did you say?"
"Climb up."
The man repeated it, his tone unchanged.
Jiang Feng opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but the words died in his throat.
The cliff was thousands of feet high, its edge invisible at a glance.
With his battered body…
Climb up?
He stared at the cliff for a long time.
He could feel the cliff breathing.
Not a metaphor—it was truly breathing.
Like a living thing, rising and falling rhythmically.
Jiang Feng took a deep breath.
He knew he didn't belong here.
Perhaps climbing this mountain would lead him to a way out.
So Jiang Feng gritted his teeth and stepped toward the cliff.
He walked up to the rock face and placed his hand on it.
At the moment his fingers touched the stone, everything changed.
The once‑quiet cliff seemed activated by something; countless radiance burst from the stone, the light so bright it made Jiang Feng unable to open his eyes.
He felt a tremendous force surge from the cliff, as if something inside was awakening.
Then he heard a voice.
The voice was huge—like thunder exploding beside his ear, shaking his whole body.
Only a single word.
"Get lost!"
Jiang Feng's body felt as if shoved by an invisible giant hand; he flew backward and crashed hard to the ground.
His back struck the sandy ground, pain making him grit his teeth, his head buzzing, his vision going dark in waves.
He lay on the ground, gasping heavily.
Lu Wu ran over from the side, his golden eyes full of worry.
It nudged Jiang Feng's face with its wet nose, as if asking if he was alright.
Then it turned its head toward the man, crying out more urgently.
But the man merely gave a soft hum.
Lu Wu's body tensed.
Its mouth closed, and its pacing legs stopped.
It lowered its head, ears drooping, then silently retreated to the side.
Jiang Feng climbed up from the ground.
The mountain wall had already returned to its original state.
The radiance vanished, and the breath-like light patterns also vanished.
It stood there quietly, like an ordinary stone wall.
But Jiang Feng knew it wasn't.
He stood up, brushed off the dirt on his body, and walked toward the mountain wall again.
This time he walked more slowly, each step a probe.
Having reached the front of the rock face, he stopped, stared at the rocks for a while, then took a deep breath and reached out again.
The moment his fingers touched the rock, radiance surged forth again.
The thunderous voice sounded again, even more violent than before.
"Get lost!"
Jiang Feng was flung out again.
This fall was harder; his knee struck a stone, pain curling his whole body into a ball.
He gritted his teeth, lying on the ground for a while before he recovered.
Then he stood up again.
He didn't know why he kept doing this.
This mountain wall clearly rejected him; that force was clearly beyond what he could bear.
Every time he touched it, he was bounced away, bruised all over.
But he simply refused to accept defeat.
To go back, he had to cross this mountain.
Or die trying.
Jiang Feng approached the mountain wall for the third time.
This time he didn't reach out directly; instead he stood before the rock face, staring at the stones for a long while.
He noticed that before the radiance appeared, faint light spots would first appear on the rock, then those spots connected into lines, lines into a surface, and only then did the force erupt.
In other words, this mountain wall is alive.
It can discern who approaches it.
And it does not welcome him.
Jiang Feng gritted his teeth and pressed his hand against it.
"Get lost!"
He was flung out again.
Fourth time, fifth time, sixth time.
Each time the result was the same.
His hand touched the rock, radiance surged out, a thunderous voice exploded in his mind, and his body flew off like a kite with its string cut, crashing to the ground.
His palms were raw, all ten fingers bloody. Each injury to his knee worsened; his left knee swelled badly, making him limp when he walked.
Lu Wu paced anxiously nearby.
It would run to Jiang Feng's side to check his wounds, then run to the man and look up, calling a few times.
But no matter how it called, the man remained rooted in place, unmoving, his expression calm as dead water.
Jiang Feng couldn't remember how many times he had failed.
He only knew that by the time he got to the back, he had no strength left to stand; he crawled to the front of the mountain wall.
His hands braced on the ground, he inched forward bit by bit, gravel grinding his palms and knees, fresh wounds piling on old ones, flesh and blood blurred.
He crawled to the rock face, lifted his hand, and pressed with the last of his strength.
Radiance surged forth again.
"Get lost!"
Jiang Feng's body was bounced away once more.
This time he didn't fly far—just a few feet before falling—because his body hardly had any strength left to be thrown.
He landed face-down on the gravel, his mouth full of the taste of earth.
He lay there, motionless.
Not that he didn't want to move; he couldn't.
His body had reached its limit; every inch of muscle trembled, every bone protested.
Lu Wu approached cautiously, crouched beside his head, and licked his ear with its tongue, as if comforting him.
Jiang Feng lay on the ground, listening to his own heartbeat.
The man remained standing where he was, watching all this with a calm expression, showing nothing.
He watched Jiang Feng crawl toward the wall again and again, be bounced away, fall to the ground, rise again, walk over, and be bounced away again.
He saw Jiang Feng finally crawl like a worm on the ground, inching forward with a hand that could no longer be seen, press it against the mountain wall, be flung away, lie there, and never be able to crawl up again.
The man's mouth corner twitched slightly.
Just a slight twitch.
Lu Wu looked at Jiang Feng lying on the ground, then at the man, cautiously ran over, crouched at the man's feet, and looked up at him.
The man lowered his head to glance at it, then spoke lightly.
His voice was so soft that only Lu Wu could hear it.
Lu Wu, do you think he will be that person?
