Chapter 606: Good-for-nothing!
Jiang Feng didn't know how long he had walked.
His awareness had already become blurred.
His body was like a puppet whose innards had been emptied, hanging by a thread so thin it was almost invisible.
That thread was called instinct.
Having walked to the back, he no longer knew whether he was moving like a walking corpse or if there was still a slight chance he was alive.
The only thing that made him keep walking was that roar.
That deep, powerful roar cut through the blizzard, like a rope tied around his waist, pulling him back from the edge of the abyss.
That roar from the depths of his soul brought him a kind of solace.
More than any power in this world, even more than the true qi he had cultivated for over twenty years, it made him feel at ease.
Because he knew it was Lu Wu.
It was trying to find a way to help him.
In its own way, using those low, deep roars, it lit a lamp for him in the blizzard, so he wouldn't be completely lost.
Jiang Feng's eye sockets felt sore, but his tears froze into ice shards before they could fall, hanging on his eyelashes and stinging his eyes.
He continued walking.
He didn't know how much longer he had walked—perhaps the time it took to burn an incense stick, perhaps an hour, perhaps even longer…
His body had completely lost the ability to sense temperature; he felt neither cold nor warm, nothing at all.
His skin was like a lifeless shell wrapped around his stiff body; the wind scraping it felt nothing, and snow falling on it felt nothing.
Then, suddenly, the wind and snow stopped.
Jiang Feng's body suddenly lost resistance, and he staggered forward a few steps, almost falling.
He steadied himself, lifted his head, and forcefully blinked his eyes, which were gummed up with ice shards.
The scene before his eyes gradually shifted from blurry to clear.
He saw a person.
That person stood not far away in the snow, hands behind his back, his grey long robe standing out starkly in the faint light.
He stood there like an iron rod driven into the earth, independent and mighty.
That was a transcendent, otherworldly strength.
Jiang Feng looked at that person, and a complex emotion welled up in his heart. There
Just then, he saw another figure.
A fluffy thing darted out from beside the man's feet, running on four short little legs, pattering toward him.
That thing ran so fast it left a string of deep and shallow tiny footprints in the snow, and its several tails flew up behind it like a messy banner.
"Lu Wu..."
Jiang Feng finally made a sound, hoarse to the point of being barely audible.
Lu Wu heard it.
Its golden big eyes flashed, and it ran even faster.
It ran up to Jiang Feng without slowing, leaping straight into the air.
Its fluffy body traced an arc in midair, then…
Plop!
It slammed solidly into Jiang Feng's embrace.
Jiang Feng was knocked back two steps, his legs went weak, and he plopped down onto the snow.
Lu Wu lay on his chest, its fluffy head nuzzling his chin, sticking out its tongue to lick his face, covering him in saliva and making squeaky noises, filled with an indescribable joy and excitement.
Its big eyes shone, bright and sparkling.
Jiang Feng sat in the snow, holding that fluffy little thing, feeling its body warm and soft, like a living warmer pressed against his chest.
He lowered his head, rubbed his chin against Lu Wu's head, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.
"Lu Wu."
He called out again, this time a bit louder; although still hoarse, one could tell he was calling its name.
Lu Wu gave a little squeak, its tail wagging even more happily.
Just then, a voice came from ahead.
"Lu Wu."
The voice was not loud, very calm, but carried an authority that could not be ignored.
Lu Wu's body stiffened slightly. It poked its head out from Jiang Feng's embrace.
It glanced at that man, then shrank back, burying its face in Jiang Feng's collar, pretending it hadn't heard anything.
"Lu Wu."
The man's voice sounded a second time, a bit heavier than the first.
Lu Wu's ears drooped down.
It slowly crawled out of Jiang Feng's embrace, its four short little legs stepping on the snow, head low, tail drooping, walking step by step back to the man.
After arriving, it crouched, lifted its head, and with those golden big eyes looked at the man, its mouth slightly open, emitting a wronged squeak.
The man glanced at it, saying nothing.
Then he lifted his gaze, looking past Lu Wu and landing on Jiang Feng.
He stepped forward.
His grey long robe dragged a faint trace in the snow, the wooden hairpin holding his long hair swayed gently behind him.
He walked up to Jiang Feng, stopped, and looked down at the seated Jiang Feng from above.
Jiang Feng raised his head, looking at him.
The two people's gazes collided in the air.
Jiang Feng didn't know what that man was looking at, nor did he know what the man saw in him.
He only knew that the man's gaze was different from before.
Before, it was calm, like a pool of dead water, showing no emotion.
But now, that pool of dead water seemed to have ripples.
His stern face finally showed a hint of relaxation.
"You're better than I imagined."
The man spoke, his voice not loud, but each word was very clear.
"No wonder, after three thousand years of Kunlun... Xuan Yuan finally chose you."
Jiang Feng's heart jolted.
He fell silent for a moment, recalling something more important.
His dantian was still empty, his cultivation still hadn't returned. He had to find out clearly.
"Senior..."
Jiang Feng raised his head, looking at that man.
"I want to ask, what is my cultivation?"
He paused, his tone becoming more earnest.
"Where did my cultivation go?"
He believed this man could give him an answer.
He must know the answer.
The man glanced at him, the corner of his mouth twitching up slightly, revealing a hint of contempt.
"You think the Dongfang family's Soul Melting Technique can be endured just by willpower?"
His tone was very flat, but the meaning of his words was like a knife stabbing into Jiang Feng's chest.
"Your cultivation has long been completely worn away by the Soul Melting Technique."
Jiang Feng froze.
Completely worn away?
His mouth opened and closed, wanting to say something, but his mind felt like it had been hit with a pause button, going blank.
The cultivation he had trained for over twenty years, the half-step Martial Ancestor realm, the thick true qi, all those things he prided himself on...
Completely worn away?
Gone?
All gone?
No wonder he felt nothing after waking up, no wonder his dantian was empty, no wonder he couldn't circulate any technique, no wonder he had no ability to protect himself in the blizzard.
It wasn't because he was suppressed, nor because he was sealed, but because those things no longer existed.
It was worn away completely by Dongfang Jue's Soul Melting Technique.
Jiang Feng lowered his head, looking at his hands covered in scars and old calluses, and gave a bitter laugh.
"As expected of the Dongfang family's Soul Melting Technique..."
His voice was very soft, so soft it sounded like he was talking to himself.
His tone held no anger, no sorrow, only a faint feeling that was hard to tell whether it was mockery or helplessness.
He thought this was the answer.
But before he could finish speaking, the man's voice sounded again.
"The Dongfang family isn't that strong."
Jiang Feng raised his head, stunned for a moment.
The man looked at him, his face bearing a strange expression.
"I saw your cultivation was half-ruined, so I simply ruined it all."
