Chapter 640: Terrifying Young Person!
Lin Zhenshan grabbed Lin Yanqian and pulled her to one side, his motion urgent and heavy, almost yanking her off balance.
He lowered his head, suppressed his voice, the veins on his forehead jumping, his tone filled with an anger he struggled hard to contain but couldn't.
"Aren't you a disciple of the National Medical Hall's several National Hands? How could there be such a young National Hand!"
His gaze swept again at Jiang Feng standing in the center of the living room, and he lowered his voice even more.
"Just who is he?"
Lin Yanqian's arm ached from being pulled by her father, but she endured without breaking free.
She took a deep breath and answered in as calm a tone as she could manage.
"Dad, his surname is Jiang, his name is Jiang Feng. He is a top-tier Divine Doctor, his medical skill is superb, far surpassing the National Hands of the National Medical Hall."
"Top-tier Divine Doctor?"
Lin Zhenshan snorted, his laugh full of undisguised mockery.
"More capable than a National Hand? Yan Qian, you've been deceived by him! Look at his attire, his appearance—none of it looks like someone truly capable."
Lin Yanqian's brows furrowed, she was about to speak when Lin Zhenshan released her arm, turned and walked toward Jiang Feng, his expression shifting from fury to gloom.
Linghu Wan also rose from the head seat, walked to her husband's side, glanced at Jiang Feng, then at Lin Yanqian, the gentleness on her face fading largely.
Lin Zhenshan stood before Jiang Feng, gave him a once-over, then let out a cold huff and began to speak.
His voice regained the steadiness of a Chamber of Commerce President, but that steadiness carried an obvious contempt and condescension.
"Young person, I don't know what means you used to deceive my daughter, but I advise you to leave now. Even daring to deceive the daughter of our Tianzhou Lin Family suggests you likely have a strict organization behind you."
He paused, his gaze growing sharper.
"However, I'm in a good mood today and don't want to make a fuss. Go on your way, and I'll pretend this never happened."
Jiang Feng stood there, hands in his pockets, looking at Lin Zhenshan's face flushed red with anger, his expression unchanged.
He didn't answer, didn't move a muscle, as if he hadn't heard Lin Zhenshan's words.
Linghu Wan also stepped forward, her voice somewhat gentler than Lin Zhenshan's but equally unquestionable.
She looked at Jiang Feng and spoke in the tone of an elder addressing a junior.
"Young person, our Lin Family is not a place just anyone can come to. I don't know what love potion you've given Yan Qian, but her path we parents have already arranged. Deceiving her like this is bad for both of you; please go back."
The main hall fell silent for a moment.
Lin Zhenshan and Linghu Wan stood there, one on the left, one on the right, like two walls blocking Jiang Feng, their eyes full of vigilance and intent to drive him away.
The old steward stood at the door, had already gestured, and two bodyguards walked in from outside, standing tigerishly at the doorway, ready to act at any moment.
Lin Yanqian stood to the side, watching her parents' display, her scalp going numb. She knew her parents too well.
Her father always acts only for profit; if she were to apprentice under a contemporary Grandmaster Physician, the Lin family would spare no effort to welcome her.
But Jiang Feng is too young, his attire unremarkable; in her father's eyes he could only be a swindler.
And while her mother spoke gently, on major matters she always agreed with her father.
She took a deep breath and stepped forward to stand before Jiang Feng.
She opened her arms, placing herself between Jiang Feng and her parents.
She wasn't particularly tall, standing before the burly Lin Zhenshan she looked somewhat frail, but she stood straight, her gaze firm.
She looked at her parents; her voice wasn't loud, but each word was crystal clear.
"Dad, Mom, you've misunderstood. Jiang Teacher is not a swindler. He saved my patient, using a method I cannot comprehend to bring back from the brink of death a person who was about to die. I saw it with my own eyes—I saw him, with one hand and a beam of light, completely restore a patient whose organs had failed."
Lin Zhenshan's brows furrowed even tighter.
"What's this 'one hand, one beam of light'? Yan Qian, have you been brainwashed?"
"I haven't been brainwashed!"
Lin Yanqian's voice rose a bit.
"I've been a doctor for years; what medical case haven't I seen? You know Ma Jian's condition—organ failure, our hospital could only barely sustain his life with every method. But as soon as Jiang Teacher arrived, in less than ten minutes he was up and jumping out of bed!"
Lin Zhenshan still didn't believe it.
"Yan Qian, you're still young, you don't know how cunning deceivers can be nowadays. He can make you see what you want to see."
"What I saw is not an illusion! I ran a full battery of tests—CT, ultrasound, blood work, ECG—and I personally verified each datum three times!"
Lin Yanqian's voice grew somewhat urgent.
"Dad, I wouldn't joke about a patient's life, nor about my own future. I truly want to learn from Jiang Teacher, even if only as an apprentice in name."
The main hall fell silent again. Lin Zhenshan looked at his daughter's determined eyes, at her stance of refusing to budge no matter what, opened his mouth to speak then closed it, swallowing what he wanted to say.
He knew his daughter had been stubborn since childhood, but she had never before defied her parents' wishes like today.
Jiang Feng stood behind Lin Yanqian, lowered his head to watch the silhouette of her blocking him, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly.
He spoke not, moved not, just stood there quietly.
Lin Zhenshan remained silent for a few breaths, then finally spoke again.
His voice sank, carrying a sense of final warning.
"Yan Qian, I'm giving you one last chance—step aside."
Lin Yanqian shook her head, her expression extraordinarily resolute
"Dad, I know you mean well, but this time I can't obey you. I want to study medicine under Jiang Teacher; this is my own choice."
Lin Zhenshan's face darkened completely.
He glanced at Linghu Wan, who gave a slight nod; they reached some unspoken understanding.
"No matter what, today this young person of unknown origin cannot stay in the Lin family."
"As for Lin Yanqian, first confine her, then talk to her slowly after she calms down."
"Uncle Dong, please take the young lady back to her room to rest."
Lin Zhenshan's voice turned icy.
The old steward answered with a sound, and together with the two bodyguards walked forward, preparing to pull Lin Yanqian away.
The bodyguard's hand had already reached out, toward Lin Yanqian's arm.
Jiang Feng's gaze finally moved a bit.
He lifted his eyelids lightly, almost unnoticeably, and an invisible aura emanated from him, spreading outward from the center of the living room.
The old steward's steps halted.
The two bodyguards' hands froze in midair, as if something had immobilized them.
Their faces turned deathly pale in an instant, a layer of cold sweat beaded on their foreheads, their whole bodies stiffened in place, not daring to move.
Lin Zhenshan and Linghu Wan also felt that aura.
Their bodies tensed simultaneously, a chill rising from their bones crawled up their spines.
Lin Zhenshan looked at Jiang Feng's still calm face, suddenly realizing that this young man's offhand nonchalance might not be an act, but because he simply didn't regard them at all.
