Chapter 690: Lei Pengfei, I Hear You Want to Meet Me?
Ling Zhaixing followed the patrol officer into the City Defense Office gate.
Inside, the light was considerably dimmer than on the street.
Along the Corridor, a few small windows were open on both sides; the afternoon sun slanted in through the windows, casting long shafts of light onto the floor, with dust floating within the beams.
At the end of the Corridor was a modest room, with a wooden plaque hanging at the doorway that read Interrogation Room.
The patrol officer pushed the door open, stepping aside to let Ling Zhaixing in.
The room was small, with a wooden table, two Chairs, and the wall bare and naked.
The windows were set high and narrow, barred with iron railings, and Outside one could see a small patch of gray‑blue sky.
She walked in, sat on the only low stool in that corner, hand resting on her knees, eyes fixed on the tabletop before her.
The patrol officer sat opposite her, opened a notebook, lifted his brush to dip in ink, and looked up at her.
"Name."
Ling Zhaixing gave no answer.
The patrol officer waited a few breaths, looked at her again, the pen tip hovering above the paper without moving.
He asked again, his tone a bit heavier than before.
"Name."
Ling Zhaixing still did not speak.
Her fingers rested on her knees unmoving, breath steady, the whole figure like a clay statue, quietly curled in the corner.
The patrol officer's brows furrowed.
He set the pen down, closed the notebook, tapped the tabletop with his hand, producing a thudding sound.
"I'm asking you questions; if you don't cooperate, don't even think about leaving today…"
Ling Zhaixing's eyelashes flickered, but she still did not look up.
The patrol officer glanced at the colleague beside him, who shook his head, indicating there was nothing they could do.
The Interrogation Room was quiet for a while; the patrol officer asked a few more questions about the incident, and Ling Zhaixing remained silent each time, as if deaf to the inquiries.
The patrol officer grew impatient, slammed the notebook onto the table, about to raise his voice when the desk phone suddenly rang.
The ringtone was especially harsh in the quiet room.
The patrol officer was startled for a moment, reached to pick up the phone, and said "Hello."
Whatever was said on the other end, his expression gradually changed, lips parting slightly, his gaze involuntarily flicking toward Ling Zhaixing, then he nodded repeatedly in agreement.
Finally, he hung up.
He stood in place, hesitated for a few breaths, then turned, looked at Ling Zhaixing, and cleared his throat.
"You may leave."
Ling Zhaixing finally lifted her head.
Her gaze shifted from the tabletop to the patrol officer's face, giving him a faint look.
Then she stood, walked to the table, waited for the patrol officer to hand over a sheet of paper, signed on it, and turned toward the doorway.
After she stepped out, the door panel closed behind her.
Only two patrol officers remained in the Interrogation Room. The one who had taken the call sat back in his Chair, exhaled, and the other officer leaned in, lowering his voice to ask.
"What's going on? Didn't we say she struck someone from Ben Lei Sect? Can Lord Lei spare her?"
The patrol officer who answered the call snorted, leaned back against the chair back, arms crossed over his chest, a hint of a knowing smile at the corner of his mouth.
"It was Lord Lei who called."
"Ben Lei Sect said they will deal with that little girl personally. Let us release her."
The other patrol officer narrowed his eyes slightly, let out a low hum from his throat, and slowly nodded.
"Then this time…"
"She's doomed."
The patrol officer who had taken the call cut him off, his tone crisp and decisive, as if stating an obvious fact.
He reached for the tea cup on the table, took a sip to moisten his throat, then leaned back, his voice softening a bit.
"In Jiangnan Territory, who dares to move a Ben Lei Sect member?"
The two patrol officers exchanged a glance, said nothing more, and the room fell quiet again.
When Ling Zhaixing walked out of the City Defense Office gate, the outside sunlight was so sharp it made her squint slightly.
She paused at the doorway, adjusted to the change in light, then lowered her head and walked forward.
Below the stone steps lay a narrow alley, its courtyard walls covered in green vines; wind poured in from the mouth of the alley, carrying a damp, earthy scent.
She had just descended the final step when two silhouettes emerged from the shadows beside her, one on each side, blocking her path.
Both were hulking men, dressed in black short jackets, their waists bulging. The one on the left bore an old scar running from his eyebrow to his chin; the one on the right sported a crew cut and a ring of dark‑blue tattoo around his neck, visible above the collar.
Both crossed their arms, looking down at Ling Zhaixing from a height, their mouths curled in an unabashed cold smile.
"Little girl!"
Dao Ba Lian spoke first, his voice rough as sandpaper on metal.
"You've got some nerve."
He stepped forward, his towering frame casting a shadow that enveloped Ling Zhaixing.
"You even dare to move someone from Ben Lei Sect."
The crew‑cut man on the other side replied, his voice slightly higher pitched, with a mocking, eerie tone.
He nudged his chin toward Ling Zhaixing, his gaze scanning her up and down as if appraising merchandise.
"Come with us for a trip? Lord Lei is asking you to go over there."
Ling Zhaixing halted.
She stood between the two men, and only then did her pupils contract slightly.
Her gaze shifted from the two hulks, passed over their shoulders, and fixed on the gray‑white wall at the alley's end. She was silent for a few breaths, then drew her eyes back, landing on the scar‑covered face.
Her voice was cold.
"Are you people of the Ben Lei Sect?"
Dao Ba Lian snorted, as if laughing at his nonsense.
Ling Zhaixing ignored his expression, continued, her voice a little lower than before, as if ground out slowly from deep in her throat.
"Take me to see Lei Pengfei."
Lei Pengfei!
The whole Jiangnan Territory's notorious underground boss, also the head of the Ben Lei Sect!
Hearing Ling Zhaixing's words, the two men's expressions changed instantly.
"How daring! To call Lord Lei by his given name? You're courting death!"
Ling Zhaixing let out a cold laugh, a flash of unprecedented chill flashing in her eyes.
"Or perhaps the one who dies will be him? Take me away!"
Then, without courtesy, she stepped onto the van parked by the roadside.
The two hulks exchanged a glance, but said little, muttering as they climbed into the vehicle.
The vehicle roared past quickly, arriving at the entrance of a boxing gym in the city center.
"Arrived, little girl, get off!"
As soon as they reached the destination, the hulks sneered and ordered her to disembark.
Ling Zhaixing's expression remained unchanged as she calmly entered the Boxing Hall.
Inside the Boxing Hall, a group was practicing fists; seeing Ling Zhaixing enter, each wore an unfriendly look.
Yet Ling Zhaixing walked alone toward a middle‑aged man.
The middle‑aged man was training at that moment; Ling Zhaixing, expressionless, approached him.
"Lei Pengfei, I heard you want to see me?"
