Chapter 703: Goodbye, Zi Xuan!

~7 min read 1,296 words

Jiang Feng stood in the middle of the street, lifted his head and looked at the bluish figure before the second‑floor window sill of the teahouse, his gaze calm as a windless pool.

He remembered that person's features very clearly.

Zi Xuan, Elder of the Qingxiao Sect, was the woman rescued by him at the Martial Ancestor Strongman's ruins, yet in an instant she helped the Mo Family brothers lie, and for the sake of the so‑called sect's reputation she was even willing to let the real culprit who almost killed her go free, and not even hesitate to splash dirty water on him.

At this moment Zi Xuan looked down at him from a lofty height, those eyes seeming to have two shards of ice embedded, cold enough to freeze a person across an entire street.

Zi Xuan watched Jiang Feng standing among the Crowd, watched him lift his head and look at her face, lips tightly pressed, the line of his jaw drawn like a fully drawn bowstring.

Long Bad Dao had been energetically looking left and right at the street view, and now also noticed Jiang Feng had stopped and wasn't leaving, and following his gaze to the teahouse's second floor, his brows instantly knit.

"Yo…"

Long Bad Dao's voice rose a notch, his coarse throat sounding especially clear on the quiet street.

"Isn't that old nun Zi Xuan?"

He stepped half a pace forward to block in front of Jiang Feng, hands on his hips, looking up at the person on the Window, his Tone carrying an unabashed displeasure.

"What's the matter? My brother Jiang is a distinguished guest invited by your Qingxiao Sect. As an Elder of the Qingxiao Sect, is this how you welcome distinguished guests?"

Zi Xuan's gaze shot down from that Window, landing on Long Bad Dao's swaggering face, lips moving slightly, but ultimately not responding to his words.

Zi Xuan's gaze shifted back to Jiang Feng, and beneath those two shards of ice in the Pupils something was swirling, like a suppressed flame, appearing cold on the Surface but actually burning scorching underneath.

Zi Xuan truly did not understand.

Why did the Master of a Sect invite Jiang Feng to the wedding?

Wasn't everything that happened at the Martial Ancestor Strongman's ruins enough to explain the issue? The entanglement between Lin Qinghan and this man was never fully severed; otherwise, after that Invitation was sent out, how could this man appear here?

When Zi Xuan personally handed that Invitation to the Su Family, they wondered what the Master of a Sect was after.

But the Master of a Sect's decision was not something Zi Xuan was qualified to question.

What made it even harder for Zi Xuan to speak was that her own body had once been seen by this man.

Although it was to save Zi Xuan, clearly so, that humiliation of having one's body fully seen lodged in her throat like a fishbone.

Each Time seeing Jiang Feng's face, it would surge again, stirring Zi Xuan's innards into a tangled knot.

Zi Xuan almost wished to kill him.

Long Bad Dao's words left Zi Xuan speechless.

Zi Xuan couldn't openly tell the whole street that she hated Jiang Feng because her body had been seen; that would be worse than just slitting her own throat. She clenched the edge of the Window, finger joints turning white, took two deep Breaths, forced that surging fire down, then spoke, her voice cold as if laced with frost.

"Jiang Feng, you'd better put away that petty thought."

Zi Xuan's gaze fixed rigidly on Jiang Feng's face.

"Young Master Zheng is a Half-step Martial Ancestor Strongman; his marrying Qinghan is what our Qingxiao Sect and the Zheng Family's two great Factions hope for. If you ruin the alliance of the two sides, you would be Ten Thousand deaths away from atonement."

Jiang Feng, after hearing this, did not get angry, did not get upset, and even the calm expression on his face did not change at all.

He merely gave a slight smile, the corner of his mouth curving a very shallow arc, his gaze calmly watching the face on the Window, slightly twisted by anger.

"If you trade Lin Qinghan's happiness for your so‑called sect's glory…"

He spoke, his voice neither high nor low, as if stating something utterly ordinary.

"Then I would only feel sorrow for your Qingxiao Sect."

Zi Xuan's complexion changed completely in that instant.

Zi Xuan seemed struck at the most painful spot, her whole face turning from white to red and back to white, lips trembling, even her voice quivering.

"Jiang Feng, you are audacious!"

Zi Xuan's voice sliced sharply through the quiet air of the street, shaking the nearby shops so that someone peeked out.

Zi Xuan's fingers rose from the Window edge, pointing toward Jiang Feng, fingertips trembling, the aura of the Heavenly Realm surging violently within her, as if ready to break through her body at any moment.

Jiang Feng gave her no further attention.

He withdrew his gaze, turned his head to glance at Long Bad Dao beside him, his Tone as indifferent as if asking what to eat tonight.

"Long Bad Dao, let's go."

After saying this, he stepped forward along the street, his pace neither fast nor slow, as if nothing had happened moments before.

Long Bad Dao froze for a moment then quickened to catch up, and as he left he didn't forget to turn back and raise a middle finger toward the teahouse, his mouth opening and closing silently uttering something, then cheerfully hurrying to match Jiang Feng's pace.

"Tonight, I do want to see!"

Jiang Feng's voice drifted from the Front, carrying an extremely faint, sharp edge hidden beneath the plain tone.

"How does this wedding banquet begin?"

The two silhouettes walked farther apart on the street, Zi Xuan standing before the teahouse Window, both hands braced on the Window edge, her Breath rapid for a while before gradually calming.

Zi Xuan watched the direction Jiang Feng vanished toward, the anger in her eyes swirling several times, finally swallowing it bite by bite back into her belly. She straightened up, adjusted the collar of her robe, then turned and went down the stairs.

Zi Xuan passed through two alleys, rounded several bends, and finally stopped before the gate of a quiet little courtyard.

The courtyard was small; at the entrance a clump of green Bamboo was planted, the Bamboo leaves rustling in the light breeze, obscuring most of the gate's outline. She pushed the door open, walked in, passed through the sky well, arrived at the main house door, lifted her hand and gently knocked twice on the doorframe.

"Senior Sister."

Zi Xuan's voice returned to that clear, steady tone, though the trailing note still carried a hint of unsettled breath.

"Jiang Feng has arrived."

Inside the house the lighting was dim, all doors and windows were closed, and only an oil lamp on the table burned a small orange‑yellow glow.

Lan Jue sat on the Chair beside the lamp, twirling a string of unknown‑material Beads in her hand, each bead rotating one by one, the rhythm steady, neither fast nor slow.

Lan Jue heard Zi Xuan's words, her eyes remained closed, she simply nodded and gave a hum.

Zi Xuan hesitated briefly, lowering her voice a few degrees.

"Senior Sister, aren't you truly unafraid of Jiang Feng causing trouble?"

The Beads in Lan Jue's hand paused for a moment, then resumed turning.

Lan Jue's mouth corner lifted slightly, that faint smile hidden where the lamplight met shadow, not very distinct.

"Trouble?"

Her voice wasn't loud, carrying a very faint sense of disdain.

"I was still afraid he'd be too scared to cause trouble."
