Chapter 79: We Don't Need You Here!

~7 min read 1,325 words

A black business car stopped in front of the outpatient building of the Provincial Capital First Hospital.

Lu Shanqing's voice was hoarse at this moment.

"Mr. Jiang, the ICU is on the 12th floor of the inpatient wing; Vice Provincial Chief Huo should already be there."

Jiang Feng nodded, said little, and followed Lu Shanqing toward the inpatient wing.

In the corridor, medical staff hurried by, and occasionally casually dressed people headed toward the ICU, their expressions solemn.

Those who could linger outside the ICU on the 12th floor of the Provincial Hospital were mostly relatives of patients with special status; even the cleaning aunt moved more gently while sweeping.

Just as we reached the end of the 12th‑floor corridor, a circle of people was gathered around the heavy glass doors of the ICU.

At the front stood two middle‑aged men; the one on the left wore a Zhongshan suit and was Vice Provincial Chief Huo Dongting of Jiangnan.

The man on the right, in casual attire, was Huo Dongting's younger brother Huo Dongchen.

Huo Dongchen had been doing business abroad for years; this time he rushed back overnight.

In front of the two stood two foreign men with blond hair and blue eyes, both wearing white coats.

The tall man on the left adjusted his gold‑rimmed glasses, held a CT Scan Image in his hand, and spoke in accented Chinese.

"Mr. Huo, according to the latest CT, the fresh clot near Huo Lao's brainstem has enlarged to 3 mm; the Provincial Hospital's DSA equipment is a ten‑year‑old model, unable to precisely locate the clot, and forced surgery carries a risk over 80%."

"Our Minghai hospital, wholly owned by Rui Country, has the latest 3.0 T superconducting MRI and a Rui Country‑imported clot aspiration system, which can reduce surgical risk to below 30%."

The short foreign man beside him added, "He is Smith, a renowned expert in cardiac surgery from Rui Country."

He pointed solemnly at the bright white area on the CT Scan Image.

"The only option now is to transfer immediately, using our Special Plane for transport, with an anesthetist and Monitoring Device throughout; it will be absolutely safe."

Huo Dongting furrowed his brows.

His father had been comatose for three days, and Western medicine had issued two critical condition notices.

The Rui Country medical team was brought in only after he leveraged three layers of connections.

He looked at his brother Huo Dongchen, who promptly nodded.

"Brother, listen to the expert; Minghai's equipment is good, it might save Dad!"

Huo Dongting took a deep breath, about to say he agreed to the transfer, when a calm voice came from behind.

"No, we cannot transfer."

Everyone turned back in response.

Jiang Feng stood at the corridor entrance, with Lu Shanqing and Sun Boyong following behind.

Jiang Feng's gaze fell on the CT Scan Image; without looking at anyone, he walked straight to Huo Dongting.

He extended his finger toward the clot beside the brainstem on the CT Scan Image.

"Huo Lao's intracranial pressure is now nearly twice the normal upper limit; the fresh clot continues to expand, and the vessel wall has become so fragile that any touch could cause rupture."

He paused, his tone gaining a few more degrees of seriousness.

"The jolt during transfer, even a mild brake, could cause the clot to dislodge, triggering brainstem hemorrhage. Then there would be no chance of rescue, let alone surgery."

Huo Dongting frowned, looking Jiang Feng up and down.

The young man before him wore a simple white shirt, looking no different from an intern in the hospital corridor; how could he dare claim the transfer was risky?

His tone, with a hint of scrutiny, asked, "Who are you?"

Lu Shanqing hurried forward a step, his tone urgent.

"Provincial Chief Huo, this is Doctor Jiang, Jiang Feng! He is the best Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner in Jiangcheng; I specifically invited him to treat Huo Lao!"

Huo Dongting's complexion darkened instantly, his eyes filled with anger.

"Lu Shanqing, you failed to stabilize my father during his first stroke; after the relapse he was nearly lost, and I haven't even settled scores with you, yet you bring a kid to fill in? Do you think my father's life isn't precious enough, or that our Huo family is easy to fool?"

His voice was not loud, yet it carried the authority of an official.

The medical staff in the corridor instinctively halted, glancing covertly this way.

Lu Shanqing's face flushed instantly; he opened his mouth to explain, but Huo Dongting raised his hand and cut him off.

"From now on, you have no business in this! Doctor Brian, we agree to the transfer; arrange the Special Plane immediately!"

Brian and Smith exchanged glances, a barely perceptible arrogance curling their lips.

Smith adjusted his glasses and sneered at Lu Shanqing.

"Medicine is about science, not about these kind of street tricks. If we had rescued Huo Lao during his first incident, he would probably have recovered by now. You, a mediocre doctor, have no right to speak."

When those words were spoken, Lu Shanqing's face turned scarlet, yet he could not refute them.

It is an undisputed fact that Huo Lao fell into coma again after his treatment.

Jiang Feng said solemnly, "My stance remains: transfer is impossible unless we operate here..."

"Impossible! This place is too backward; our hospital in Minghai has the most advanced equipment in the world, and transfer is the only solution. Young man, you know nothing, so stop babbling here!"

Jiang Feng ignored Smith, took a step forward, his gaze fixed on Huo Dongting.

"Vice Provincial Chief Huo, I know you're eager to save Huo Lao, but please believe me. Right now, if we take Huo Lao out of the ICU, even just onto the ambulance downstairs, he could instantly suffer a brain herniation and die."

Those words struck like a thunderclap, freezing Huo Dongting's movements instantly.

He looked at Jiang Feng's steadfast gaze, then at the dangerous clot on the CT Scan Image, his fingers unconsciously clenching into a fist.

He wasn't unconcerned about the transfer risk; it was the Rui Country expert's words and his father's critical condition that left him with no way out.

Huo Dongchen, seeing this, rushed forward and scolded Jiang Feng.

"What nonsense are you spouting! Doctor Brian is an internationally renowned expert; how could you be any better than a little Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner? If you dare curse my father again, I will make sure you never leave this place!"

Jiang Feng ignored him, his eyes bright as he stared at Huo Dongting.

"I don't need a transfer, I don't need surgery; with just these needles and my revitalizing brain decoction, I can bring Huo Lao's intracranial pressure down within three hours and restore his independent breathing within twelve hours. If I don't achieve it, I leave you to decide."

When those words were spoken, the whole scene fell silent instantly, everyone was stunned.

Brian sneered, "Young man, don't joke with a patient's life; this is murder!"

Lu Shanqing also quickly lifted his head and urged Huo Dongting.

"Provincial Chief Huo, Mr. Jiang really has skill! A few days ago he cured a patient who had been paralyzed for five years with massage; he wouldn't joke with Huo Lao's life!"

But Huo Dongting examined Jiang Feng repeatedly, his gaze still full of doubt.

Brian was somewhat angry and shouted, "Mr. Huo, if this kid's actions cause Huo Lao's condition to worsen, we will refuse to treat Huo Lao again; after all, we cannot bear others' faults!"

As soon as those words were spoken, Huo Dongting's expression immediately hardened.

No matter what, Brian is an internationally top doctor, and his words are certainly more trustworthy.

So he coldly looked at Jiang Feng: "I still decide to let Mr. Brian's team handle my father's healing; as for you… Here no longer needs you, you may leave."
