Chapter 330: Iron-Blooded Interrogation
He subconsciously raised his hand to cover his left flank, his body shaking uncontrollably.
Lin Yu said that he knew what he was doing regarding the previous points; they were indeed the case, and even more accurate than he himself had felt.
But that last one... Pheochromocytoma?
He had been having inexplicable heart palpitations and headaches lately, and his blood pressure had been jumping all over the place; he had just assumed it was because he was getting older and tired, and several physical exams had only turned up some old ailments—he had never even considered that!
This... how is this possible? Just by taking one look?
The mockery on Liu Chengfeng's face also froze; he looked at Wang Bowen's terrifying complexion, then looked at Lin Yu in disbelief, his mouth opening, but not a single word could come out.
This Professor Wang was a consultant his father had hired at a great price, a big-name figure in the Haicheng medical world; how could he have had so many ailments that he himself might not even be aware of seen through at a single glance?
"You... what kind of nonsense are you spouting!" Xu Xiaochuan couldn't stand Liu Chengfeng's arrogant attitude from just a moment ago, and seeing him get shut down now, he felt satisfied, so he retorted at Liu Chengfeng, "My Lin Shu's skills—is it your place to point fingers?"
"Presumptuous!" A follower behind Liu Chengfeng immediately barked, took a step forward, and his hand reached toward his waist.
The atmosphere suddenly tightened.
"Young Master, Brother Xiaochuan, both of you say less."
The steward appeared at the doorway again, no one knew when; his voice was still gentle, yet carried an unquestionable force.
He first bowed slightly toward Liu Chengfeng: "Young Master, Mr. Lin's medical skills are indeed extraordinary, and the Family Head has instructed that he be treated with courtesy. The situation of this Miss Xuanyuan is also of great importance and cannot be treated as child's play."
He then turned to Xu Xiaochuan, his tone softening a little: "Brother Xiaochuan, the Young Master is only acting out of concern and has no ill intent."
Liu Chengfeng was brought to his senses by the steward's few words; he still looked unconvinced, but after glancing at Professor Wang, who was still pale and dazed, he ultimately did not flare up again.
He snorted coldly and shifted his attention to Xuanyuan Qing on the hospital bed, the sense of inquiry and assessment in his gaze undisguised.
"Hmph, I want to see just what is so special about this woman that she could make something like 'Ouroboros' chase her relentlessly, and why it's worth our Liu Family going to such great lengths."
The steward did not respond to Liu Chengfeng's words, only signaling for the followers to take the Young Master and Professor Wang out first.
When only he, Lin Yu, and Xu Xiaochuan remained in the medical room, the smile on his face faded somewhat, replaced by a bit of solemnity.
He walked up to Lin Yu and lowered his voice.
"Mr. Lin, word just came from outside that we caught a sneaky fellow on the perimeter of the residence."
"We conducted a preliminary interrogation; he is a scout sent out by 'Ouroboros' trying to track down your location."
The steward paused, observing Lin Yu's reaction, and continued.
"This person has a stiff mouth, but the Liu Family has plenty of ways to make him talk. Perhaps we can get some clues out of him about 'Ouroboros', or about Miss Xuanyuan... and that YA-001."
"Mr. Lin, are you interested in hearing it together?"
Deep within the Liu Residence, the basement.
The cold, damp air clung to one's face, uncomfortably sticky. Water droplets hung on the walls, trickling down the seams of the blue bricks and hitting the concrete floor with a never-ending "tap," "tap." The smell of rust mixed with the stench of blood, plus a moldy odor, made one's head ache.
In the middle of the room, an iron chair was welded to the floor; it was ice-cold.
A man wearing a black Combat Uniform was tied to the chair, his head drooping so his face couldn't be seen. Only the sound of his wheezing could be heard; every inhalation sounded like a bellows, filled with noise. His clothes were torn in several places, his skin bruised and purple—evidently, he had just been "serviced" a round—yet he remained as taut as a stone.
The steward stood in the corner shadow, his posture straight, both hands tucked into his sleeves, his face devoid of expression.
Beside him, two Liu Family guards stood like wooden stakes, holding a few tools that were still stained with blood. The atmosphere in the room was enough to suffocate a person.
"Hard bones," the steward said, his voice flat.
The person in the chair didn't move.
With a "creak," the heavy iron door was pushed open, and the light from outside stabbed in, dazzling.
Liu Chengfeng led his two lackeys and that Professor Wang Bowen in, walking with a swagger. Professor Wang's face was still white, looking like he had lost his soul.
"What's the word, Steward? Haven't pried his mouth open yet?" Liu Chengfeng's tone was very flippant. He circled the iron chair and kicked the calf of the man tied to it with his toe.
The man let out a muffled groan, his body shaking violently, but he still didn't lift his head.
"Heh, people from 'Ouroboros' really are like stones in a latrine." Liu Chengfeng curled his lip, turned his head, and shouted at Lin Yu and Xu Xiaochuan by the door: "Hey, Great 'Divine Doctor' Lin, aren't you capable? You saw through Professor Wang's ailments at a glance; why don't you give it a try? See if you can see what's in this guy's brain at a glance?"
Xu Xiaochuan's temper flared up instantly; his fists were clenched tight, and he was just about to open his mouth.
Lin Yu raised his hand and gently pressed his arm to tell him not to be impulsive. Lin Yu himself leaned against the wall, his back wound pressing against the rough bricks through the gauze, and it hurt heart-wrenchingly with the slightest movement. He ignored Liu Chengfeng and just watched the man on the iron chair quietly.
"Young Master, this person has undergone specialized training and has a very strong will; ordinary methods are likely..." The steward interjected at the right moment, his tone respectful, but the meaning was clear.
"Ordinary methods?" Liu Chengfeng sneered, taking a long, thin metal skewer with a barb on the tip from his lackey, "To deal with this kind of goods, you have to use something 'extraordinary'! I want to see if his bones are harder, or if my skewer is harder!"
He took the skewer and walked up to the man, the excitement on his face looking pathological.
"Speak! How many spots are there in Haicheng? Who is leading the team? Besides that woman, what else is the target?" Liu Chengfeng used the tip of the skewer to push aside the hair on the man's forehead that was matted with sweat and blood, his voice lowered, carrying the cruelty of someone toying with prey.
The man suddenly lifted his head and spat out a mouthful of bloody foam, which landed squarely on the hem of Liu Chengfeng's expensive silk robe.
The smile on Liu Chengfeng's face vanished, turning terrifyingly gloomy. "You're courting death!" he roared, and the skewer in his hand stabbed fiercely into the man's fingernail bed!
"Sshhh—!"
The sound made one's teeth ache.
The man's body arched violently, a non-human scream squeezed from his throat, his entire body's muscles shaking like a sieve, and the iron chair rattled with a "clanging" sound as he struggled.
Xu Xiaochuan's face turned white in a "flash," his stomach churning, and he couldn't help but dry-heave, quickly turning his head away, not daring to look. The sound and the scene made him cold from head to toe.
Liu Chengfeng, on the contrary, became even more energized; he pulled out the blood-stained skewer and aimed it at another finger. "Are you going to talk?"
The man's teeth were clenched so hard they "clicked," sweat rolled down his temples, and his face was twisted in pain, yet he stubbornly refused to make another sound, just staring at Liu Chengfeng with those man-eating eyes.
