Chapter 332: Breaking Through the Wall, A Mole Lurks in the Shadows

~7 min read 1,355 words

The skin on his back was burning with a piercing heat! A stream of extremely dangerous, blood-scented cold air was rapidly rising from beneath their feet! It wasn't just a blind feeling; he could even "hear" a muffled sound, like metal scraping against a wall, getting closer and closer!

Before the words had even faded!

Boom!!

On the side of the basement, a discarded Air Duct seal disguised as a wall suddenly exploded inward! Bricks and stone fragments flew everywhere!

The smoke and dust were so choking that one couldn't open their eyes; several dark, ghost-like figures were already holding pitch-black short weapons, drilling in through the breach one after another! Their movements were terrifyingly fast, landing without a sound, and their muzzles instantly locked onto the people in the room!

"Ouroboros"! It's their elite!

It was too close! The Liu Family guards hadn't even managed to turn their weapons around!

Pfft, pfft, pfft! The muffled sounds of silencers connected into one; blood bloomed on the chests of the two Liu Family guards at the very front, and they collapsed limply without even a groan.

The steward reacted the fastest, suddenly hunching down and yanking Liu Chengfeng, who was still dazed, behind an iron chair.

Lin Yu's pupils constricted sharply; he had moved the moment the breach exploded! His body was still weak, but his instinct for fighting had already overridden his exhaustion. He snatched up the blood-stained metal skewer from the floor and, without even looking, whipped it toward the face of the shadow in the lead! His left hand took advantage of the momentum to scoop up a bucket of dirty water nearby and smashed it toward the second shadow!

That shadow tilted his head to dodge the skewer, but the splashing dirty water still hit him square in the face, slowing his movements by half a beat.

Just that half-beat!

Lin Yu endured the agonizing pain of his back wound tearing open, exerted force through his feet, and kept the last few poisoned Silver Needles tucked between his fingers. He twisted his body into a strange angle, narrowly avoiding the sweeping bullets, and two Silver Needles shot out silently!

Swish! Swish!

Direct hit! The two shadows stiffened, clutched their throats, and collapsed, their faces rapidly turning a deathly gray.

"Nice work!" Xu Xiaochuan didn't know where he found the nerve; he picked up a weapon dropped by a guard on the floor and fired a few shots at the remaining enemies like a blind cat stumbling upon a dead mouse. Although he didn't hit anything, it did temporarily disrupt the opponent's firepower.

"Seeking death!" Seeing this situation, Liu Chengfeng probably felt it was his time to shine; he actually lunged out from behind the iron chair, grabbed a short blade from who knows where, and went charging toward a shadow distracted by Xu Xiaochuan's fire, howling as he went.

"Young Master!" The steward was scared out of his wits.

That shadow didn't take Liu Chengfeng seriously at all; he backhanded a pistol-whip toward his face, while his other hand moved as fast as lightning, grabbing for his throat! If he were caught, Liu Chengfeng would immediately become a hostage!

At this life-or-death moment, Lin Yu stumbled forward and forcefully knocked Liu Chengfeng aside, but due to his exhaustion and injuries, he left himself wide open, right in the line of fire of another shadow!

Bang!

The shot rang out! But the bullet missed. It was Xu Xiaochuan! He had panicked and tackled the shadow who was about to fire! The two of them rolled onto the ground, grappling.

Lin Yu took advantage of this opening, delivered a hand-blade strike to the wrist of the person holding Liu Chengfeng, and followed up by slamming his knee hard into the opponent's lower abdomen! The man let go in pain, and Lin Yu took the weapon from his hand, backhanded him with it, and knocked him unconscious.

Liu Chengfeng fell to the ground, his face a mix of fear and shame; looking at Lin Yu's back, his lips trembled a few times, but not a single word came out.

"Retreat! Quickly! To the secret room!" The steward made a split-second decision, hauled Liu Chengfeng up, and roared at the remaining guards, "Protect Mr. Lin and young brother Xu! Move!"

Several people shielded Lin Yu, while Xu Xiaochuan carried the scout who had just vomited a bit (the steward hadn't forgotten this important source of intelligence) and rushed toward the secret door at the other end of the basement. The passage was narrow and deep, footsteps echoed chaotically inside, and the sound of gunfire and explosions getting closer outside made one's heart jump with fear.

In the chaos, a Liu Family guard responsible for covering the rear, while passing a fork in the path, used his fingers to make a very covert, quick gesture toward the pitch-black depths.

Rumble—!

The thick alloy gate fell behind them, emitting a heavy, thunderous sound.

The pressure locks engaged with a faint "hissing" sound.

The deafening gunfire and shouts of battle outside were suddenly mostly cut off.

Beneath their feet, a faint, muffled vibration could still be felt.

In the narrow secret room, the air was cold as ice.

The pale emergency light hit the alloy walls, reflecting a cold gleam.

Everyone's breathing became exceptionally loud, heavy, and rapid.

The smell of sweat, blood, and disinfectant mixed together; it was unpleasant.

Liu Chengfeng leaned his back against the cold wall, his face terrifyingly pale, his lips shaking.

He wanted to light a cigarette, but his hands were shaking so badly that the lighter missed several times.

The steward beside him had a face so gloomy it could drip water.

He kept his head down, his fingers rapidly operating a communication panel on the wall.

Light dots flickered on the screen, representing the status of various defenses; more were extinguished than lit.

Xu Xiaochuan leaned against the wall, the wound on his leg throbbing in waves; he sucked in cold air.

What was even more uncomfortable was the skin on his back, burning with a terrifying heat.

It wasn't the pain of the previous burn, but a sharp, clear warning.

Like a needle was stuck deep into his nerves, pointing toward...

He suddenly turned his head, looking past Lin Yu's weak shoulders toward the Liu Family guard who was guarding the inside of the alloy door and had just been covering the rear.

That guard stood straight, alert just like the others.

But the mark on Xu Xiaochuan's back told him that the danger was this person!

The guard's fingers were subconsciously and lightly rubbing the buckle of the weapon at his waist, a very subtle habitual movement.

Xu Xiaochuan's heart was pounding violently; he didn't dare to make a sound.

He used all his strength to control the expression on his face, quickly raised his eyes to look at Lin Yu, and pointed his chin ever so slightly in the direction of the guard.

Lin Yu sat leaning against the floor, his face whiter than the wall, his chest rising and falling weakly, every breath accompanied by imperceptible pain.

The moment he received Xu Xiaochuan's signal, the fingers resting on his knees curled almost imperceptibly.

The medical tray placed on the floor beside him, containing the remaining medicinal herbs and tools, was moved half an inch outward by his heel without a trace.

"The West Courtyard has fallen! Firepoints three and five have been wiped out! How much longer can the main building hold?" The steward's voice was suppressed with anger as he growled into his internal Communication Device.

A "crackle" of static came from the panel, along with an intermittent report: "... The opponent's firepower... it looks like military-grade... our men can't hold them off..."

"Useless trash!" Liu Chengfeng finally lit his cigarette and took a fierce drag, but choked and started coughing.

He slammed the cigarette onto the floor and roared at the communication panel: "Blow them to bits! You've disgraced the Liu Family enough!"

Just as Liu Chengfeng lost control and the steward was distracted by the communication!
