Chapter 34: The Smell Makes Me Uncomfortable
Lin Yu turned to Yan Yalan and asked, "Tell me, who gave him the Mother-Child Gu?"
Yan Yalan hesitated, unwilling to reveal the secret.
But when Lin Yu mentioned that he could get the answer from her son, she finally spoke up to protect her child:
"Before I married Long Jianfei, I had a boyfriend who was a famous sorcerer in Southeast Asia. After I married, he came to find me several times, but I refused him. It wasn't until last year that he appeared again and took Yuyuan as his apprentice, teaching him the sorcery."
Yan Yalan's gaze fell on Long Qinglan, her smile carrying a hint of mysterious emotion:
"Actually, Qinglan looks exactly like him. He is a southerner but has the appearance of a northerner, handsome and not lacking in masculinity.
I was eighteen at the time and was attracted by his charm. The day before Long Jianfei did that to me, I was still with him."
Long Jianfei was furious after hearing this, cursing, "Bitch!" He realized that he had been kept in the dark for years, enduring double humiliation.
Facing her husband's insults, Yan Yalan responded with a cold sneer: "Since you can't stand it, then come and hit me!"
Long Jianfei was unable to speak due to anger and shock, his face pale and his breathing rapid. Lin Yu calmly removed the control over Long Jianfei and took back the silver needle.
"I don't want to get involved in your disputes, but if you can contact that sorcerer, please tell him not to act rashly in Huacheng." Lin Yu looked at the unconscious Long Yuyuan and added, "He has already lost the ability to use sorcery and Gu techniques; it was I who crippled him."
Yan Yalan nodded gratefully to Lin Yu and hugged her son tightly.
Long Qinglan was crushed by the truth before her eyes, standing motionless, her face filled with shock.
"Then who is my father..." she muttered to herself, as if the world were collapsing beneath her feet.
Witnessing this scene of a broken family, Lin Yu simply signaled to Zhao Yuan'er: "Let's go, Yuan'er."
Zhao Yuan'er gently pulled Yan Qinhua, who was still immersed in shock, and left this place full of chaos together.
After comforting Long Qinglan with a few words, Li Lin also said goodbye: "Take care, I hope you can think things through."
Then she quickly chased after Lin Yu, calling out eagerly: "Divine Doctor Lin, please wait a moment."
Lin Yu stopped his steps and turned to welcome Li Lin.
Only then did she say: "We can talk."
He agreed and invited her into the car to continue the conversation.
Inside the car, Li Lin went straight to the point to ask about the news of the God of Medicine. But Lin Yu asked an unexpected question: "Can you tell me about the scar on the back of your hand?"
Li Lin replied that it was because she suffered from intermittent amnesia in her childhood and did not recover until she was fifteen, so many past events were a blank for her.
Hearing this, Lin Yu's heart rippled, because this kind of illness is usually triggered by major psychological trauma, and Li Lin seemed to be hiding more secrets.
Nevertheless, Lin Yu still confessed his identity: "Actually, I am the God of Medicine."
Li Lin was both surprised and happy after hearing this. Their subsequent conversation made Lin Yu more convinced that the woman before him was his long-lost sister, Lin Xue.
Although Li Lin did not question Lin Yu's identity, her lack of past memories made the reunion of the siblings complicated.
As the exchange deepened, Lin Yu almost completely believed he had found his sister.
At the same time, time passed quietly to noon. Lin Yu suggested having lunch together, and Li Lin readily accepted, preparing to start learning about traditional Chinese medicine.
Li Lin's stomach was already growling. She blushed slightly and whispered: "Okay."
Lin Yu walked into the kitchen. For some reason, he decided to make a bowl of tomato and egg noodles.
This dish had special significance for him because it was his sister's favorite.
Whenever the school bell rang and the door opened, his sister's voice would always follow: "Brother, I'm hungry, cook me a bowl of noodles!"
Standing in front of the stove, Lin Yu seemed to hear that familiar voice again. When the steaming bowl of noodles was placed in front of Li Lin, she was stunned by the aroma.
"Why does this smell feel so familiar, but I can't remember it?" Li Lin frowned and muttered to herself, seemingly trying hard to recall something.
Lin Yu's hands involuntarily clenched into fists. He knew many things had happened after his sister went missing, and her amnesia made his heart ache.
However, Li Lin only took one bite before she couldn't help but vomit it all out, her face filled with apology: "I'm sorry, this smell makes me feel uncomfortable."
Seeing Li Lin's discomfort, Lin Yu quickly took a silver needle from his wrist and gently pierced it into the tiger's mouth of her hand. Miraculously, Li Lin immediately stopped vomiting.
Li Lin, who had recovered, looked very confused. "It's really strange, why am I so repulsed by this smell?"
Lin Yu had the same question in his heart. If Li Lin was really Lin Xue, she should have missed this dish. But he still said gently: "Wait a moment, I'll prepare something else for you."
This time, Lin Yu made different dishes, and Li Lin ate with gusto, praising his excellent cooking skills.
"Haven't you tried tomato and egg noodles before?" Lin Yu asked.
"No, since I went abroad at thirteen, about nine years ago, I rarely ate Chinese food, and after returning to the country, I mainly ate Western food," Li Lin replied.
Hearing these words, Lin Yu felt a sense of loss. But soon, Li Lin's phone rang. After the call, she seemed a bit surprised: "Cousin, I don't think I'm suitable to be the Vice President."
Lin Yu knew the person on the other end of the line was Zhang Yuru. After hanging up, Li Lin asked if she could come by often.
Lin Yu smiled and agreed.
While clearing the bowls and chopsticks, Li Lin chatted behind him just like Lin Xueru used to: "Every time my cousin goes abroad, she stays at our house and mentions you often. She loves you very much; how did you two end up getting a divorce?"
"It's because I didn't try hard enough; I didn't earn a single cent in the six years we were married," Lin Yu explained.
"Then why didn't you try to earn money? Is it hard to find a job?"
"I'm just not very interested in money," Lin Yu replied casually, continuing to wash the dishes, not noticing the stunned expression on Li Lin's face caused by this remark.
She felt as if she had remembered something, yet it also seemed like she hadn't remembered anything at all.
"It seems like a long time ago, someone said something similar to me."
"Is that so?" Lin Yu responded nonchalantly.
"Is anyone there?"
At this moment, a familiar voice came from the shop. Lin Yu knew this was the person coming to pick up Li Lin, so he told her, "Your ride is here."
Li Lin walked out with a hint of dissatisfaction, "They got here so fast."
When they reached the shop, Feng Yuanyuan's expression immediately darkened. She grabbed Li Lin, her angry gaze fixed directly on Lin Yu.
"Li Lin, how can you be with such a useless person? Do you know who he is?"
"I know, isn't he just my cousin's... ex-husband?" Li Lin replied.
