Chapter 116: Because She Is Your Daughter

As soon as she left the hospital, Meng Shutang called Gu Yunci.

The man seemed angry; he didn't answer any of the thirty‑plus calls.

Having no other choice, she called Qin Zheng, "Where is Gu Yunci? I need to see him!"

"President Gu is in a meeting, Miss Meng, something wrong?"

She had planned to drive to Qian Shui Wan, but upon hearing that, she immediately turned the steering wheel toward the Gu Clan Building.

The car barely stopped, she opened the door and got out; perhaps too flustered, she staggered and fell flat on the ground.

She ignored the pain, got up and headed for the elevator.

After much effort she rode the elevator to the twenty‑eighth floor, walked up to Qin Zheng and asked, "Where is Gu Yunci?"

Qin Zheng was startled by her appearance and said, "Miss Meng, what's wrong with you?"

Meng Shutang seized him and demanded, "Tell me where Gu Yunci is!"

"Conference Room 2806."

As soon as Qin Zheng finished speaking, Meng Shutang vanished.

She was still in the white dress from the banquet, hair disheveled, her arms mottled with blue and purple bruises, barefoot, completely stripped of her former graceful charm.

Instead, she looked like a woman driven mad.

Perhaps dazed, as she walked down the central staircase toward the conference room, her foot slipped and she tumbled down the stairs.

Qin Zheng thought she had taken a hard fall and went to help her, but she scrambled up with a grunt and kept running toward the conference room.

Finally reaching the door marked 2806, she ignored the security staff's obstruction, stepped forward and shoved the door open.

It was an emergency corporate night meeting; the round table was surrounded by people, and as soon as the door slammed, pairs of eyes turned toward her.

Meng Shutang's eyes fixed on Gu Yunci as she walked step by step to him, "Can you come with me to the hospital?"

Gu Yunci looked at her; just moments ago she had been haughty like a swan, how could she now be in such a disheveled state?

"Gu Yunci, come with me to the hospital."

Seeing him remain still, she pleaded again.

Gu Yunci kept his composure, "What for? I'm in a meeting, you saw that!"

"Go save my daughter."

She stepped forward, her slender fingers gripping his arm.

The man saw her hand trembling, his Adam's apple quivered, "Why should I rescue your daughter?"

"She has a rare disease; only the special medicine from the Gu International Medical Center can save her.

I beg you, please go save my daughter, okay?"

If it were only the special medicine, she wouldn't have come to beg him.

He had given Xin Xin a medical VIP card; Meng Shutang took that card to the Gu International Medical Center, produced enough money, and could buy any medicine.

Meng Shutang, seeing his hesitation, suddenly knelt and said, "I beg you, please save my daughter,

whatever you ask me to do, I will agree."

Hasn't he always wanted to get back together with her?

She agreed!

Even if it meant settling for being his concubine, she would accept.

As long as Xin Xin lives, she doesn't care about anything else.

The man looked at her, "Are you still hiding something from me?"

Meng Shutang was startled; the first thing she thought of was the kinship DNA test the doctor had indicated, but if she told him that, would it not amount to indirectly admitting his blood relation with Xin Xin.

While she hesitated, Gu Yunci lost patience and said, "Qin Zheng, take her away."

Meng Shutang panicked and blurted out, "Because she is your daughter."

All the CEOs around the round table widened their eyes, and as Gu Yunci turned to question Meng Shutang, "Are you sure… she is my daughter?"

"Yes, everything I said before was a lie. After the divorce I didn't abort the child; I gave birth, and she is Xin Xin."

After she finished speaking, Meng Shutang could no longer speak through her tears.

She knelt before Gu Yunci, "President Gu, Xin Xin is truly your daughter. Her life is in danger; please, save her."

Gu Yunci steadied himself, brushed aside the executives, scooped up Meng Shutang, and ran toward the exit.

In the car, Meng Shutang still trembled.

Gu Yunci held her hand; her hands were icy, she hung her head, and said nothing.

At the Gu International Medical Center, he went straight to the laboratory, drew blood for a direct‑relative DNA typing.

The medical staff told him after the test, "President Gu, the results will be ready in two and a half hours."

Gu Yunci arranged for the attending physician and the special medicine, then came to Meng Shutang's side and sat down quietly.

"When I first asked you, why didn't you tell me?"

Meng Shutang sat there blankly, not uttering a sound.

Gu Yunci saw this and did not press the question further.

He saw her trembling pitifully, reached out, draped his arm over her shoulders, pulled her into his embrace, and his thin lips brushed her forehead.

Meng Shutang realized his actions were unconscious, not truly meant to be intimate.

After all, at a time like this, no parent has the mood for such things.

Suddenly she felt an urge to hold Gu Yunci and beg him to definitely save Xin Xin.

Though the thought was absurd, that's exactly what she was thinking.

But she didn't; she lifted her head slightly and said, "Gu Yunci, thank you, truly thank you."

"No need to thank me; it's what I should do."

Xin Xin will be fine, believe me.

Before he came over, he told the medical center's director that as long as Xin Xin's surgery succeeds, every medical staff member in the operating room will receive ten million.

Meng Shutang suddenly covered her face and cried.

He saw her slender shoulders trembling slightly, and also saw crystal-clear tears spilling from between her slender fingers.

He held her tighter.

Two and a half hours later, Qin Zheng brought the paternal match report to Gu Yunci.

The moment Gu Yunci saw it, his fingers also trembled uncontrollably.

A month ago, he could have done the report, but he didn't because he couldn't bear to.

He never expected to see it today in this way.

He held the report and looked at it over and over, sitting, standing, and even while walking down the hallway.

But after calming down, with Xin Xin currently lying in the operating room, her heart couldn't help but clench.

Every minute and second waiting outside the operating room is agony for Meng Shutang.

Gu Yunci kept her company, saying, "Once Xin Xin recovers from this illness, the two of you will move back to Qian Shui Wan."

Two hours later, the operating room door opened.

Xin Xin was pushed out by the medical staff.

Half an hour later, she woke up.

The first thing she did upon waking was grab Gu Yunci's hand and say, "I just had a very long dream, dreaming of you."

"You said you are my dad, not a fake dad, but a real dad!"

Meng Shutang was stunned.

Gu Yunci was also shocked there.

Xin Xin gripped his hand tightly and asked, "Are you really my dad?"

Gu Yunci leaned down and kissed her cheek, saying, "Let Mom tell you."
