Chapter 130: I'm Not Satisfied With You — In That Way!
"No."
Meng Shutang pushed him away, refusing decisively.
The man didn't press further either. He snuffed out his cigarette in the ashtray. "Grandma knows you're back, and she knows about Xin Xin too."
"Tomorrow, she wants you to come home for a meal."
Meng Shutang was taken aback. "You said so?"
Gu Yunci didn't mention that it was Gu Jin Xing who had brought it up last night. "She's getting old, and she really misses you."
Meng Shutang knew the old woman was kind to her, but she had concerns. "Gu Yunci, will you fight me for Xin Xin?"
"You'd rather think of me that way than believe in my determination to remarry you?"
With one sentence, Meng Shutang was stunned into silence.
Gu Yunci's words were true—ever since they reunited after the divorce, she rarely thought well of him.
She said nothing, climbing back from the driver's seat to the passenger seat, straightening her clothes and hair. "Alright, let's go!"
Gu Yunci: "Tomorrow's luncheon..."
"I'll bring Xin Xin over."
Gu Yunci started the car, backing out with practiced skill and pulling onto the main road.
"When we were married, Grandma always wanted us to have a child. Tomorrow when she sees Xin Xin, she'll be so happy."
Meng Shutang: "Your father doesn't like me, so he probably won't like Xin Xin either."
Gu Yunci: "Don't worry about him. As long as I love you all, that's enough."
After saying that, Gu Yunci suddenly recalled how moved Meng Shutang had been when they kissed just now. "Why don't you want to remarry me?"
Meng Shutang thought for a moment. "I'm not satisfied with you!"
"In what way?"
"That way."
She figured that with this answer, the man wouldn't ask again.
The next second, the man pressed further. "Be specific."
He asked for it—don't blame her.
"Thin, soft, and useless!"
Screech—the Rolls-Royce stopped by the roadside without warning. Gu Yunci turned to look at Meng Shutang. "What did you say?"
Meng Shutang felt a bit guilty, but her tone stayed as firm as ever. "President Gu looks charming, but in bed, really very average."
Gu Yunci was so angry he pinched her cheek. "Meng Shutang, it's been four years. I'm not the man I used to be—in every way!"
"You mean you've gotten stronger?" Meng Shutang watched him without blinking. "What a shame. In my memory, you're still the same as before."
"So from now on, don't say things about marriage anymore."
"Fine," Gu Yunci replied in a low voice, but his expression said he'd have plenty of chances to prove himself.
When the time came, she'd better not cry and beg him to stop.
For the rest of the drive, neither of them spoke.
Yet the atmosphere inside the car was tender and intimate—even the streetlights streaming through the windows seemed tailor-made for the ambiguity between them.
Gu Yunci walked Meng Shutang home. As she turned to leave, he caught her wrist. "Wait for me a moment."
Saying that, she opened the trunk and took out many gifts from inside.
Some for Xin Xin, some for Grandma, and some for Meng Shutang.
"No need. Didn't you already deliver a batch a while ago?"
Gu Yunci: "Those were from before. These I picked out carefully myself."
Meng Shutang looked—they were no different from last time, just an excuse because he was afraid she wouldn't accept them.
Gu Yunci went upstairs with Meng Shutang. On the way up, Meng Shutang asked her about the car.
Gu Yunci: "Don't worry. I'll have Qin Zheng drive it back from the school for you later."
The two of them entered the home.
Li Xiuyun saw him come in and proactively took a pair of slippers from the shoe cabinet. "Newly bought. See if they fit?"
Gu Yunci's brows rose slightly. He hadn't expected that so quickly, the kind-hearted grandmother was already trying to accept him.
"They fit perfectly. Thank you, Grandma."
Li Xiuyun glanced and saw they indeed fit well. "Don't thank me. Your daughter picked them out for you and asked me to buy them."
Xin Xin, who had been drawing in the bedroom, came running out at the sound. "Daddy, Mommy, you're back!"
Gu Yunci scooped her straight up and kissed her cheek. "Thank you, Xin Xin, for buying Daddy slippers."
These slippers were the cheap kind, but he felt they were the most comfortable pair he had ever worn.
"You're welcome. As long as Daddy likes them."
"Has Xin Xin missed Daddy these past few days?"
"Yes, I missed you, missed you so much." Xin Xin's little arms wrapped around his neck. "Daddy, tonight don't go, okay? Stay here."
"The other kids in kindergarten have their mommies and daddies living together. You should live with us too."
Gu Yunci was of course very willing.
Hearing this, he subconsciously glanced at Grandma. Grandma looked away, picking up a duster to dust, avoiding eye contact with him entirely.
He glanced at Meng Shutang next. Meng Shutang turned and walked away—her meaning was clear at a glance: she didn't agree.
Gu Yunci gently held his daughter closer, his voice very hoarse. "It was Daddy's fault before. Daddy broke Mommy's heart."
"Daddy will try harder. When Mommy forgives Daddy, Daddy will stay with you forever, okay?"
Xin Xin looked at him, half-understanding. "Okay then!"
Dinner was eaten at home, takeout from a five-star hotel ordered by Gu Yunci.
Jiangcheng Imperial Hotel does not offer takeout to the public, but Gu Yunci is not an outsider.
He is the biggest shareholder of the Imperial Hotel; what he eats and where he eats it is still decided by a single word from him.
It's just that Qin Zheng and the others are pitiful; even after getting off work they still have to busy themselves preparing the boss's meal.
Grandmother was very considerate of them, letting them come in, sit down, and eat together.
Qin Zheng naturally knew this was the old person's goodwill, but they could not accept this kindness, saying they still needed to help Meng Shutang drive the car over, and then they left.
After finishing the meal, Xin Xin grabbed Gu Yunci's hand not letting him go, but she also rubbed her eyes and softly flung herself into Meng Shutang's embrace, "Mommy, I want Daddy to sleep with me."
Meng Shutang lightly furrowed her brow, just about to speak to refuse, but Xin Xin had already lifted her head and looked at her pitifully.
"I want to sleep in the middle, you and Daddy sleep beside me, just like the other kids at kindergarten."
Xin Xin's words were innocent and straightforward, making Meng Shutang's nose feel sour.
She pressed her lips tightly, not daring to look at Gu Yunci beside her, only staring at the weary Xin Xin in her arms, whose voice was all mushy, "This isn't good, it's very late, Daddy still has to go home."
Xin Xin's little hand grabbed his shirt hem, "Daddy doesn't want to go home."
Grandmother beside them couldn't help but laugh, then suddenly realized it was inappropriate to laugh and immediately stopped.
Xin Xin still heard it, "Grandma, Mommy doesn't agree."
Li Xiuyun walked over, looking at Meng Shutang, "Xin Xin didn't sleep at noon, she really is sleepy."
Meng Shutang pondered for a few seconds, her throat feeling dry, "All right... but we agreed, just this once."
Xin Xin nodded, turning her body to rub against Gu Yunci's embrace, her steps all light and airy.
Gu Yunci gave Grandmother a slight nod, holding Xin Xin and following Meng Shutang to her room.
Her room was simply and grandly furnished, with only a bed and wardrobe besides a desk.
On the desk lay a laptop and some everyday work items,
making it obvious at a glance that the room's owner is a hardworking person.
Xin Xin, who was still dozing with heavy eyelids in the living room, had no trace of sleepiness once back in the bedroom.
One little arm wrapped around Gu Yunci's neck, the other clung to Meng Shutang's nape, bouncing and shouting, almost making them kiss several times, "Oh, Daddy Mommy, we three are finally sleeping together."
After playing for a while, she finally lay down obediently.
Before drifting into a drowsy sleep, she tightly clasped Gu Yunci's neck with both hands, "Daddy, Xin Xin wants to see you tomorrow too."
After Xin Xin fell asleep, Gu Yunci got up and leaned over to Meng Shutang's side.
She had walked a lot, exhausted to the point her bones felt like they were falling apart; after Xin Xin fell asleep, she also became listless and half-asleep.
Gu Yunci held his breath, bent down, one arm looped around her back beneath her shoulder blade, the other hand went through the bend of her leg.
Her body was even softer and more delicate than he imagined, sinking into the bed making it hard to exert force.
