Chapter 33: I'm Pregnant — It's Your Child
Only then did Gu Yunci realize something was wrong with Meng Shutang.
The curtains were drawn in the room, the light dim.
But he could still see her flushed face and hazy eyes.
Her whole body burned fiercely; under the drug's effect, her voice was soft, fragmented, and carried a faint trembling like a sob.
She was clearly in the middle of a divorce, unwilling to say a single word to him, yet at this moment she was like a new bride, willing to rely on him alone.
He scooped her up in his arms. "Don't push yourself. I'll take you to the hospital."
The woman clutched at him incoherently. "No... no hospital..."
He carried her to the bathroom next door, placed her in the bathtub, crouched beside her, and said patiently, "Wait a moment. It'll pass soon."
As the ice-cold water poured down, Meng Shutang huddled in his arms, her body trembling like a leaf in the winter wind. "No cold water... just you..."
She was clearly so fragile she'd shatter at a touch, but in this moment she summoned a brute strength from nowhere, grabbing his tie recklessly and pulling him close.
Her arms wrapped around his neck, pressing her burning body against his, making it impossible for him to pull away—he could only follow her lead, dragged down with her into the abyss.
"Do you know who I am?" For an instant, the man's gaze turned aggressive, as if he wanted to devour her in one bite.
"Hubby." she murmured.
Gu Yunci hesitated no longer and stepped into the tub.
His well-defined hand grasped her ankle and pulled her toward him; the distance between them vanished in an instant.
Water splashed everywhere...
Bai Cixian stood at the door of Room 888, listening to the waitress's account. "President Gu completely panicked, kicked the door open in a fury, and never came back out."
"Enough. Stop talking."
Bai Cixian could hold back no longer and broke down with a cry.
Why, why?
She had made one phone call, and Gu Yunci had dropped everything—left a room full of executives—and rushed over frantically.
Meng Shutang had been stripped down like that, and when he saw her, he didn't even suspect a thing—he even relieved her?!
She lowered her head and began to sob quietly.
"His feelings for her never broke off at all."
The waitress saw her crying so bitterly. "Miss Bai, are you all right?"
Bai Cixian suddenly remembered there were still some loose ends to tie up. She pulled the waitress to the stairwell corner. "Take this. If President Gu sends someone to investigate, just say you saw her dizzy and unsteady on her feet, and worried she'd run into someone bad, so you helped her to the room.
Anything else—you know nothing."
The waitress nodded.
The next day.
When Meng Shutang came to, she felt as if her entire body had been thoroughly crushed and reassembled; her neck ached terribly, as if some wild beast had gnawed on it.
This feeling was especially like after a bout of passionate lovemaking...
Thinking of something, Meng Shutang's eyes snapped open.
The first thing that met her eyes was the man's prominent Adam's apple, and the fact that she was held tightly in his arms, inseparable.
Scenes from last night surfaced in her mind. She immediately lifted the man's arm off her, threw on her clothes haphazardly, and slipped out quietly.
Half an hour later, Gu Yunci woke up.
He looked at the empty room and Meng Shutang's strands of hair on the pillow, spaced out for a moment, then got up and went to Starfall Pavilion to find Meng Shutang.
Meng Shutang was in the work area, restoring ancient beads.
His gaze swept over the silk scarf half-covering her neck, faintly revealing a trail of love bites underneath.
The man smiled like a clear breeze and bright moon. "Last night, we..."
"I don't blame you," Meng Shutang said without stopping her work, not even glancing at him.
But her cold and distant manner was one sentence short of telling him to get lost immediately.
Gu Yunci felt his smile just now was a hot face pressing against a cold rear; the small flame of hope that had risen in his heart was instantly extinguished.
But last night, she was clearly the one holding him, caressing him, entangling him.
How did it end up seeming like he took advantage of someone in a vulnerable state?!
But he refused to bear such an unjust accusation. "Last night I didn't..."
Meng Shutang knew what he wanted to say. Last night she was the one who initiated—not him coaxing her, not him coercing her, and certainly not him seizing an opportunity.
From beginning to end, she was entirely willing, clinging tightly to him and refusing to let go.
But they were getting a divorce—what was the point of saying all this now!
She'd just treat last night as an absurd dream, one that vanished upon waking!
"President Gu, I'm busy."
The man was pierced by her coldness.
He backed away toward the door, even struggling to keep his footing.
What was he expecting? She didn't love him. If the man last night had been Gu Jin Xing, she'd be smiling right now!
So that "hubby" last night wasn't calling for him.
"I shouldn't have gone. I should have let you suffer the consequences of your own doing."
With that, he turned and left without a backward glance.
He didn't return to Gu Clan; instead, he went to the café next door.
The moment he sat down, he called Qin Zheng. "Find out who tampered with the Young Madam's drink at the Flower Banquet Noble Residence Club last night. I want results within half an hour."
After speaking, he set his phone on the table.
Half an hour later, a list and evidence lay before him.
He picked it up and gave it a quick flip.
Qin Zheng said, "Wang Qiang left the country last night."
The man sneered, "You can run from a monk but not from the temple. Isn't he always bullying respectable women by relying on his brother‑in‑law, the CEO of Ying Xia Group? Then cut Ying Xia Group's funding chain."
"Also Wang Qiang, call the overseas brothers and tell them I want sea cucumber."
Qin Zheng nodded.
"As for the other men at last night's table,"
The man looked at the list, which noted each one's reaction at the time—some "silent observers," some "snickering in agreement."
"Freeze all their wealth‑management accounts at Gu Group's financial institutions, suspend their memberships at high‑end clubs and private clubs, and also cut off any dealings with the Gu Clan system and its partners—no further business with these people."
The men who attended the banquet that day each became a laughingstock within the circle.
They resented Gu Yunci's ruthlessness, yet dared not retaliate.
But they all knew there was a woman named Meng Shutang; they could not touch her.
After dealing with those people, Gu Yunci pointed at the only woman on the list, "Where's Bai Cixian? Did she run away too?"
Qin Zheng shook his head, "I called her; she said she felt unwell, went to the hospital, and will be back in a while."
As the words ended, a graceful, slender silhouette stepped beside Gu Yunci, "Brother Yunci, you summoned me."
Her bone‑defined fingers pinched the cigarette; the lighter's flame flickered before igniting, and she took a deep drag.
Thick smoke pressed heavily in her chest, then she exhaled forcefully, laced with uncontainable malice.
"Was it you who called Shutang yesterday?"
Bai Cixian spoke calmly; Wang Qiang had left the country, so even if Gu Yunci wanted to do something, there was no concrete evidence now.
His anger stemmed solely from her having dragged Meng Shutang into that banquet.
On the way over, she called Bai Lianyue, who said Gu Yunci's thunderous fury had already caused a tsunami in Jiangcheng's wealthy circle.
Many people debated who had the nerve—bear's heart and leopard's gall—to offend this elder.
And who was so fortunate to enjoy the Crown Prince's protection.
"My stomach feels off; thinking Teacher Meng would handle things safely, I sent her there.
I didn't think it through; had I known it would turn out like this, kill me, I still wouldn't have sent her."
The man sprang to his feet, seized her throat in one hand, the force so heavy it seemed he could crush her, "How dare you send her to that kind of banquet? Who gave you that nerve?"
Malice surged around the man, his brow bones jutting, "I warned you—she's my bottom line. Did you treat it as wind in your ears?"
"Luckily she's unharmed; otherwise a hundred of your lives wouldn't cover the cost."
He jerked her away; Bai Cixian staggered and slammed into the table corner, but he didn't even glance, grinding his teeth as he spat out, "If you ever dare entertain the thought of moving against her again, I'll make you and your Meng family disappear from this circle entirely."
Bai Cixian's heart was bleeding.
She had indeed walked a path her mother once walked.
But how could she compare with her mother?
Her mother, at least, had Meng Zhibang's love!
Gu Yunci to her, hehe…
But precisely because of that, she decided to gamble. She slowly turned, looked at Gu Yunci, covered her lower abdomen and crouched, her face pallid as she curled there, "Brother Yunci, don't be angry, I didn't mean it."
The man didn't listen to her explanation, and strode forward.
"I'm pregnant, your child."
