Chapter 43: She Had His Child
Gu Yunci hesitated briefly, but then gritted his teeth and took it.
In the photo, Gu Jin Xing looks considerably darker than before, yet remains just as refined and handsome.
Meng Shutang, wearing her favorite white dress with the hem fluttering, tiptoes and embraces Gu Jin Xing; when they look at the camera, the two smile happily.
He only glanced, then directly tossed the phone to Bai Cixian.
Bai Cixian picked it up, flipped through other photos, "These are their letters over the years."
"Brother Yunci, you keep her in your heart, yet she keeps cheating on Jin Xing behind your back; she doesn't deserve you loving her so much."
Gu Yunci stood there, unmoving.
Bai Cixian wiped away a tear, "Even if I say all this, you won't believe, but two things are true."
"I love you, and our child… really gone."
As she spoke, she grabbed Gu Yunci's arm and burst into tears, "Brother Yunci, this can't just pass lightly; I want justice."
Gu Yunci's expression turned cold, "If she really did it, rest assured I'll give you an answer."
After speaking, he broke free from Bai Cixian and walked outside.
Bai Cixian sat on the bed, deeply desperate, crying deeply, but her gaze also hardened.
Wenlüxiaozhen Hotel.
Gu Yunci opened the door and walked in; Meng Shutang saw him, slowly rose, "Supervisor Bai, how is she?"
He seized Meng Shutang's wrist, his fingertips turning white as he squeezed until she gasped, "I thought you weren't this kind of person; you can't even accept a child?"
"Do you know that it's a human life!"
Meng Shutang: "You hurt me?"
The man saw her wrist turn red, subconsciously eased his grip a bit, but forced her into the corner, staring at her as if to tear her apart.
"You killed a child, and now you're happy?"
Hearing that the child was gone, Meng Shutang was stunned for a moment, but still pale, explained, "I didn't push her, I really didn't push her."
The man: "You mean she killed her own child to frame you?"
Meng Shutang said nothing, but she was unable to defend herself.
The man grabbed her, "Come, go with me to apologize to her."
Meng Shutang refused, "It's none of my business; she pulled me and fell herself."
She felt a wave of nausea rise, uncontrollably dry‑heaving once.
The man saw this, his face showing concern, "What's wrong with you?"
Her dry‑retching looked just like Bai Cixian's earlier vomiting.
No.
Bai Cixian pretended a bit; it was an uncontrollable physiological reaction.
Meng Shutang suddenly broke free, went to the bathroom, and vomited thoroughly.
With her stomach feeling better, she sat up straight and looked at herself in the mirror…
Gu Yunci didn't leave, but followed, "What's wrong with you, are you…"
"Are you pregnant? After all, not long ago she got drunk, they made love, but took no precautions."
Meng Shutang knew what he meant, "No, I took medicine afterward."
In an instant, Gu Yunci's heart sank to the bottom.
She simply didn't want to give birth to his child.
"Then you…"
Seeing her earlier in such agonizing pain, Gu Yunci still couldn't help worrying.
"It should be a stomach upset," she said, raising her eyes, "President Gu, how am I, as if it has nothing to do with you…"
She paused, "Bai Cixian's miscarriage also has nothing to do with me…"
Gu Yunci sharply interrupted, "Is it because you fell?"
One sentence left Meng Shutang speechless.
"Fine, I'll go."
Meng Shutang followed Gu Yunci to the hospital, entered the ward, looked at Bai Cixian, and, neither humble nor arrogant, said, "I'm sorry for what you're going through today; I hope you rest well."
After speaking, she turned and left.
Bai Cixian, dissatisfied, "Brother Yunci, is this her attitude?"
Gu Yunci's cold eyes deepened, "Alright, you rest well."
As he walked out of the ward, he thought Meng Shutang had left first, but she was waiting at the door.
"President Gu, I came as you said, but I've never harmed anyone; believe it or not!"
"By the way, we'll divorce tomorrow. Meet at the Civil Affairs Bureau at nine in the morning."
"Afternoon then; I have no time in the morning."
After that, he turned and left.
Meng Shutang left that night from Wenlüxiaozhen and returned home.
She felt something was off.
Her period was delayed, and she vomited more often.
Before entering the residential area, she first went to the pharmacy at the entrance and bought a pregnancy test stick.
Back home, without a word, she went to the bathroom.
When she saw the two lines on it, she was stunned.
That night of reckless sex was during her safe period; she had planned to buy a morning‑after pill, but was too busy and forgot.
By the time she remembered, it was already three days later, and there was no need to take medicine.
Who would have thought that such a carelessness would actually bring the child she had hoped for three years.
Li Xiuyun saw her staying in the toilet for such a long time without coming out, thought something had happened to her, and knocked on the door, saying, "Tangtang, what's wrong?"
Meng Shutang hastily wrapped the pregnancy test stick in toilet paper and threw it into the trash can.
"I'm fine."
After coming out, she deliberately chatted with her grandmother as if nothing was wrong before returning to her own room.
But tossing and turning, she just couldn't fall asleep.
Should she tell Gu Yunci about her pregnancy?
After all, this is also his child.
But this thought flashed for only a second before she immediately dismissed it.
"No, his heart and body belong to Bai Cixian now; this child is mine alone, and I will raise her well."
That night, she hardly slept at all.
Only when the eastern window grew light the next day did she finally close her eyes and doze for a while.
After getting up in the morning and having a simple breakfast, she drove to the studio, but on the way she couldn't control her vomiting.
She left the car at a roadside parking lot and took a taxi to the hospital.
After the checkup, everything was fine, and she asked the doctor why she was vomiting so severely.
The doctor comforted her, "This varies by constitution, but you can try to find what helps prevent morning sickness."
"Some people don't get morning sickness by eating lemons, others by eating soda crackers."
Holding her pregnancy test slip, she left the examination room and was about to consider whether to go back to the studio or to the mall/supermarket.
She glanced up and saw Qin Zheng standing in the hallway, making a phone call.
She froze for a moment, pretended not to have seen him, and was about to leave.
"Young Madam."
Qin Zheng hung up, came to her side, and asked, "Why did you come to the hospital? Are you feeling unwell?"
Meng Shutang, "My stomach feels uncomfortable; I took some medicine."
Qin Zheng looked at the sign outside the examination room and said, "This is the Prenatal Diagnosis Center."
Meng Shutang remembered the pregnancy test slip in her hand, hastily stuffed it into her bag, and said, "No, I'm here to ask something for Chen Man."
At the bidding meeting, Qin Zheng and Chen Man had spoken, and he knew she wasn't coming to this hospital for a prenatal checkup.
"Isn't Mrs. Chen registered for prenatal checkups at the provincial maternal and child health hospital?"
Meng Shutang gave a faint smile, "She usually gets her checkups there, but that day of the bidding meeting wasn't this place closer, so she came here."
"Later she had to leave, so today I'm picking up the results for her."
Qin Zheng glanced at the thing she had hastily shoved into her bag earlier, and didn't ask further.
Meng Shutang turned to leave, then suddenly remembered something, saying, "Remember to remind President Gu at one o'clock this afternoon, don't forget."
Qin Zheng watched her retreating back, then turned to look at the Prenatal Diagnosis Center again, feeling that something was off.
He went over again and asked the medical guide, "People usually come here for checkups before 32 weeks; as you said, pregnant women in their eighth or ninth month generally go to the obstetrics department."
"But a few do come here; it's rare."
At lunchtime, Qin Zheng reported the project's progress to Gu Yunci and mentioned this matter.
"I saw the Young Madam at the hospital; she came out of the Prenatal Diagnosis Center, I asked her, and she said her stomach felt uncomfortable."
